The Chevy Silverado EV finally hit center stage earlier this year, making its debut at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show amid a good deal of fanfare. Now, General Motors claims it has collected some 140,000 reservations for the new Chevy Silverado EV thus far.
In a recent letter to GM shareholders from GM CEO Mary Barra released in conjunction with GM’s first-quarter earnings report, Barra addresses the new Chevy Silverado EV and how it relates to another all-electric GM pickup, namely the GMC Hummer EV, writing: “You will see many of the GMC Hummer EV’s best attributes available in the Silverado EV, including superior range, faster fast-charging capability, four-wheel steering, Super Cruise, and a larger, far more flexible cab and bed compared to our closest competitor.”
Barra adds, “These are just some of the factors driving a surge in Silverado EV fleet and retail reservations, which are 140,000 and growing.”
This latest update on Chevy Silverado EV reservations follows another open letter to GM shareholders published earlier in the year in conjunction with GM’s Q4 2021 earnings report, in which Barra indicates that The General had accumulated “more than 110,000” reservations for the upcoming all-electric pickup.
What’s more, as part of the recent GM Q1 2022 earnings presentation, GM also indicates that nearly 400 fleet operators have placed reservations for the Silverado EV thus far.
Production of the new Chevy Silverado EV is slated to begin early next year at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
So far, General Motors has unveiled two trim levels for the new battery-driven pickup, including the fleet-oriented WT trim, as well as the well-equipped RST trim. Both trim levels feature a dual-motor e4WD powertrain, with the WT rated at 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, and the RST trim rated at 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque. Both trims are estimated to offer a range-per-charge of 400 miles, and both ride on the GM BT1 platform, with the GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium drive motor technology onboard for motivation.

Maybe GM should make a car that runs on GM’s >HOT AIR< But as always talk is cheap. Kind of like the problems at Ford.
Reservations are meaningless. Deliveries matter.
Lightning went into production yesterday with 200,000+ reservations, bearing in mind that they only intend to deliver 15,000 this year, and 55,000 each year there after. So that’s basically it’s entire production life cycle has been spoken for.
They were originally planning on 35-40k per year and then went to 75k per year and are currently planning to have 150k per year within 18 months. First year will be slow but they will definitely be making more lightnings than 55k
Reservation are almost meaningless. It is used as a marketing tool. I predict about 10,000 of these will be produced a year.
On a more positive note, I really like the RS trim’s body colored “grill” cover. I prefer it over the all-black plastic look on the WT.
Chrome please!
Question: Has anyone heard snowplow capabilities of an electric pickup?
Not a use case for that vehicle.
Read ’em and weep all you EV haters! 😉
They will be weeping all right when the recalls, fires and problems start and time to comes to send out a payment each month for this overpriced thing!
You’ll weep when you get the payment book.
And you’ll have wide smiles when you drive past gas stations with their skyrocketing prices.
gm stock, 38 bucks! Ouch.
Most will be flipped
Reservations mean very little we’ll see how many actually put the $100k where their mouth is.
This looks like what you would get if you asked a woman to design a pickup. Sorry Mary but this is an Avalanche, NOT a Silverado. It should sell fine in the city for the shiny shoed driver that occasionally wants to pick up a bag of salt at the local home supply store, but you better produce a real Silverado if you expect a farmer or a tradesman to not opt for the F150.
