GM Has Received More Than 1,800 Reservations For The Cadillac Lyriq In Canada

GM Canada has so far received roughly 1,800 reservations for the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover in Canada.

The automaker confirmed recently that more than 17,000 customers in Canada had registered to receive updates on the Cadillac Lyriq – a metric the automaker refers to as “hand raisers.” Additionally, roughly 1,800 Canadians have paid the $100 fully refundable fee to place a pre-order for the Cadillac Lyriq – a strong initial performance considering the somewhat slow adoption rate for EVs in Canada thus far. These vehicles will be distributed through Cadillac’s dealer base in Canada, which currently consists of 118 stores.

Production of the Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition is scheduled to start on March 21st, 2022. The Lyriq Debut Edition, which sold out in ten minutes, is a limited-run version of the crossover that comes with more equipment and exclusive features. Cadillac will begin taking additional orders for regular series production versions of the Lyriq on May 19th. Production of these regular series vehicles destined for the Canadian market will begin on August 8th, GM has also confirmed.

GM plans to produce more examples of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq this year than it had initially planned, GM Authority reported previously. The automaker originally said it would produce just 3,200 examples of the Lyriq this year, but it has now decided to produce as many as 25,000 units due to strong demand.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will be produced at the GM Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee, which GM invested nearly $2 billion in for various upgrades to support EV production. GM is expected to also build a new electric Acura crossover at the facility on behalf of tech sharing partner Honda.

The Lyriq Debut Edition trim comes standard with a 12-module, 100.4 kWh Ultium battery pack, which will send power to a single rear-mounted Ultium Drive electric motor producing a GM estimated 340 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. This setup should provide a GM-estimated 300 miles of driving range on a full charge. Only two wheel types and two exterior colors – Satin Steel Metallic and Stellar Black Metallic – will be offered at launch. Additional exterior and interior colors and options are expected to be added to the Cadillac Lyriq once production of the Debut Edition is complete this year.

  1. That’s CT6 levels of interest. We saw how that went.

    1. Oh I think thats far more than the CT6 sold in Canada.

  2. Unless you live in the right province, Canada only offers $5,000 (<$4,000USD) for EV credits. Couple that with the limited range in winter driving, and you can see why EVs are not being adopted in large numbers in Canada.

  3. Wow. They may sell almost 2,000 of these in Canada. I suspect Toyota loses about 1,800 vehicles a year from car transport truck crashes. If anyone honestly thinks GM is going to make it to 2030, I’ll eat my hat.

  5. I was just told by the Cadillac dealer in Victorville, CA that there will be a $5,000 dealer mark-up on the Lyriq. I told her I think mark-ups are morally wrong, so I will not be ordering one. Count me out. Goodbye.
