Lightning struck twice last week as Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick placed the winning $1 million bid for the first production 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 convertible at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction. The convertible version of the top-performing Corvette Z06 will make the perfect bookend for the first production C8 Corvette Z06 coupe that Hendrick won at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale sale in January, sealing rights to the car with a $3.6 million bid. The proceeds for both cars went to charity, with the $1 million Z06 convertible’s sale benefitting the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
The new C8 Corvette Z06 is powered by the all-new 5.5-liter LT6 engine. Featuring a flat-plane crankshaft, a sky-high 8,600 rpm redline, and boasting 670 horsepower, the LT6 is the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated production V8. Backing the LT6 is the GM eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The 2023 Corvette Z06 convertible features a retractable hard top, a first for any Corvette. The Z06 has its own unique bodywork, with wider fenders, larger wheels and air intakes, exclusive rear fascia, and tuned exhaust. The cockpit of the Z06 is a driver-centric design, constructed of premium fabrics and surfaces.
Mr. Hendrick will have his choice of colors, wheels, interior options, and more. Available options include eight different interior color options, a carbon fiber steering wheel and shift paddles, doors and instrument panel wrapped in custom leather, upper interior trim in sueded microfiber, and GT2 seats trimmed in Napa leather and carbon fiber. A rainbow of different exterior colors is available.
Mr. Hendrick will be able to build his own LT6 engine for the Z06 if he chooses, and he will have the option of taking delivery of his completed convertible at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. As if all that didn’t complete the Corvette delivery experience, Mr. Hendrick will receive a day of private driving instruction at Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motor Resort.

I was surprised to see it sell for so much less than the previously sold Z06 coupe. I wonder why especially because it is a charity donation
Having the proceeds go to a charity is awesome and while the Thurgood Marshall College is a great school, I believe the way the media and press promoted this charity auction turned off a lot of donators, hence only $1M for this awesome vehicle.
Maybe the proceeds should have been used to help underprivileged illegals.
Since the proceeds of this charity sale went for good cause educational scholarships, I hope B-J waived their selling fees. Great intangible publicity value.
Thank you GM if you donated this vehicle. Thurgood Marshall, RIP, was great.
The reason is simple. The Coupe sold at the Scottsdale auction a much better attended and watch auction. It is the highest viewed auction in the world.
That’s debatable C8, since I was there. They are all pretty well watched, what it boils down to is who’s bidding, how much money they want to spend and how badly they want the car. Mr. all knowing I thought you would know that? And if you haven’t guessed this is Bill who likes too mess with C8 and Dan B, LOL, the one above is a different Bill.
So the as yet unannounced price will be around $1 million dollars ? HA HA HA
I am so hoping for a price to be announced soon.
No joke, I kept working instead of retiring, so I can have a steady and strong income stream, so I can afford
the Z06. If not for that car, I would have retired. I do not have much of a life, and medical issues keep me from doing
a lot of things. But I am able to get in and enjoy my 2021 C8. I have been to the Ron Fellows owners school, joined a local Corvette Club, and really enjoy driving. So… can we get to the part where we get to order the Z06 please ?
And these auctioned cars get delivered when ?
