Digital Rendering Artist Imagines A Classy C3 Corvette Speedster

A digital artist on Instagram has fired up their 3D rendering software to create a unique C3 Corvette Speedster with a chopped-down windshield and no roof.

This roofless Corvette pulls inspiration from one of Chevy’s arch-rivals: Porsche. The German manufacturer has been using the Speedster nameplate since 1954, when it applied it to a low-cost, roofless version of its 356 sports car. It resurrected the Speedster name in 1988 for a chop-top variant of the G-series 911 and has produced multiple 911 Speedster variants since, all featuring a low-cut windshield and side windows, along with a removable cloth top.

This rendering takes the philosophy of the Porsche 911 Speedster and applies it to the C3 Corvette Stingray – creating a rather attractive end-result that would be undeniably fun to drive. In addition to the chopped windshield, this rendering also mimics the 911 Speedster’s rear buttresses, which jet rearward toward the trunk to give the vehicle a sense of forward motion even when it’s standing still. These could be compared to the buttresses on the C8 Corvette Convertible, which GM officially refers to as “Nacelles.”

While we like the Speedster inspiration here, we’re not very keen on the large, modern-day alloy wheels, huge brake rotors and red-painted calipers applied to this fictional C3 Speedster, as we think these components take away from its vintage charm. We’d prefer to see a set of steelies and white-lettered Goodyear racing tires on it, but that’s just our opinion. We’re big fans of the classy green body color the artist chose, though, and think the dark red leather interior upholstery compliments the exterior quite well.
