General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a product safety recall for the 2014 and 2015 model year Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers due to an issue related to the vehicles’ windshield wipers.
The problem: in affected vehicles, the ball joints in the windshield wiper modules may experience high corrosion and wear, which may result in the separation of one or more ball joints from their sockets during wiper operation. If a ball joint were to separate, one or both of the windshield wipers could become completely inoperative. NHTSA first opened an investigation into certain model year Equinox and Terrain windshield-wiper module/transmission failures in December of 2019.
The hazards: inoperative windshield wipers can reduce forward visibility in certain conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the wiper module of affected vehicles and repair or replace it as necessary. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Affected components: windshield wiper module.
Affected vehicles:
Number of affected vehicles: 681,509
Owners should: owners of affected vehicles will receive an owner notification letter in the mail with instructions on how to proceed. These letters will be mailed out starting on May 2, 2022. If owners are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall action, they can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls that may be active on it. Affected owners can also reach out to Chevy or GMC directly using the contact information included below.

April fools
All this will go away when GM is fully electric.
I hope someone can help me understand this. GM is recalling 681,509 2014-2015 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain for failing windshield wipers. Ford is issuing two recalls covering over 737,000 vehicles to fix oil leaks and trailer braking systems that won’t work and can cause the vehicles to catch fire. In my humble view, Ford recalls are more serious and involve more vehicles than GM’s? Here is my question, how come GM’s recall is on the first page of almost every newspaper while Ford’s are not?
Because in spite of Killing so many Americans, in spite of emerging from Bankruptcy, GM steadfastly continues to make Self-destructing Engines, Disintegrating Wheels, Peeling Paint, Failing Windshield Wipers. GM simply refuses to make a decent car, period.
But the Killer Ignitions, that was a highpoint of ingenuity.
Help… why is .my 2016 wipers not included on this.. ? When they just don’t work? And I received a recall notice?
Cause Roadkill.
These GMC terrains and equinox are all lemons.. every one of them. I’ll never buy GM again. This vehicle has had more recalls and repairs than all my vehicles in the last 35 years put together. Every one of them should be reimbursed in full.. junk junk junk
Well you know what they say when you’ve got a Lemon…
It must be a GM.
Damn. I think you’re right… this is insane the constant problems I’ve had with my 2016 low milage terrain.. im sick about the money ive spent
What about the failed HVAC Blend Door Actuator? They recalled it on the 2015 Equinox, but not the 2015 Terrain? How safe is it to be driving down the interstate, it starts raining, & you can’t turn on the defogger?
The 2012 Malibu has the same plastic bushings I have replaced twice in a year
Again, when Killing customers, it’s always good to be able to blame the crashes on driver error…
GM’s Defective Ignitions were brilliant. GM was able to Kill for a solid 10 year run, and blame ‘Driver error’. Customers will notice the Defective windshield wiper fairly quickly, so GM had better get to another Killing device.
My daughter unfortunately bought a 2012 Equinox. That ridiculous split block engine failed and ruined the head plus other parts and all had to be very costly repaired. The wiper mechanism has failed twice and the entire mechanism had to be bought and replaced. There should be more recalls than than that . I am disappointed in GM on this one
Mine went out during a major downpour driving on a major highway last May. I was glad that I was able to follow someone off an exit.
Damn. Lucky to get off the road
Like we did last night
They need to expand it up to 2016 because of ’16 equinox literally had this exact problem with the wiper transmission joint and my driver side wiper stopped working.
GM is not fixing this at no cost to us. They aren’t doing anything about the wiper problem.
Recall Status: INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE
Yeah they should expand it also to the 2011 GMC terrain and we were driving down the highway in Florida where it rains all the time bad heavy rain and the windshield wiper went out we took it to the deal and it’s the transmission of the windshield wipers same problem the other ones are having so why is it 2014 but not a 2011 no sense same problem different year GMC you suck
