2021

  • WT – $26,395

Chevy’s midsize pickup received a mild mid-cycle refresh for 2021, representing the seventh model year of the second-generation Colorado. Changes and updates for the 2021 Chevy Colorado include a revised front fascia; an embossed “Chevrolet” tailgate for all models, replacing the traditional Chevy Bow Tie; the deletion of the Base trim level; three new exterior color options – Bright Blue Metallic, Cherry Red Tintcoat, and Sand Dune Metallic; three new wheel options; and more.

One of the biggest changes for the 2022 Colorado was the addition of the new Trail Boss package, which brings some added capability to the Colorado LT and Z71 trim levels and bridges the gap to the ultra-capable Colorado ZR2 variant.

  1. Maverick may be a game changer for the industry. Saw one at the auto show, roped off, so must be pre-production. I took a triple take at the price. Under 20k. And it looked good. A friend was with me and liked it even more. They shrunk it down back to a normal sized compact truck and he really liked that.

    1. I have been in the Maverick and under it.

#1 the base price does not last long with any options.

      #2 it is not under$20k

#3 the savings comes at a price with short cuts under the skin galore. The Colorado offers a 4 piston brake the Maverick a old floating caliper. Colorado folding back seat 60/40 for cargo. Maverick neither.

#4 the back seat lack leg room for adults and the bed is ver compromised in the Maverick. This is why it is smaller.

#5 the Maverick is on the Escape C2 platform so you are getting a cheap CUV disguised as a truck. This is not the return of the original Ranger.

      1. Of course it is not under 20k with any options. But then the taco truck that I think base was 25 ended up around 30. Maverick will fit in where someone really needs inexpensive transportation. Not everyone has money to burn. And some may actually go for the base. On this forum I hear all the time no one buys the vette without options. Guess what, on the vette forum people post their window stickers showing a base car purchased.

        Reply
        1. Well that is not what you posted. Just taking what you said.

Well they did not used to buy a base vette for years but now do as the base vette is not very base anymore. How many 82 C3 have you seen in steel wheels?

For $30k you can buy a nice LT Colorado it is much more truck for the same price and the mpg is very close. I get 22 mpg around town.

Prior to the truck shortages I could find Colorado work trucks for $19k advertised.

Also people for some odd reason think these trucks are the return of the old Ranger or S10. They are not even close.

Everyone raved at the Ridgeline but now sales are barely 10% od the GM mis size at 30k to 35 k units. Not good numbers

I am all for this segment if it will work but many people are confused or miss guided on price and ability of these small trucks.

The truth is when the price goes down so do the many things we take for granted. Cost come out and often it hurts features or the durability of the vehicle.

The Maverick is just a cheap FWD platform with much cost cutting that comes with baggage.

          1. What you are saying you know and what you actually type are two different things that say you haven’t been in or around one nor have any idea how they actually perform.

            Let’s go through your “analysis”:

I have been in the Maverick and under it.

#1 the base price does not last long with any options. – Correct, but it barely get above 30k loaded with AWD and the turbo motor (excluding adding accessories)

#2 it is not under$20k – it is, before delivery, the base price is under 20k

#3 the savings comes at a price with short cuts under the skin galore. The Colorado offers a 4 piston brake the Maverick a old floating caliper. Colorado folding back seat 60/40 for cargo. Maverick neither. – You don’t say, something a whole price class lower has some cost cutting? It isn’t much though, it is well reviewed. Even the GM twins are knocked for the cheaper use of materials, so…

#4 the back seat lack leg room for adults and the bed is ver compromised in the Maverick. This is why it is smaller. – This is where your lack of research shows. The Maverick is actually quite roomy, especially considering it is a COMPACT truck. It has more legroom than the Ranger and reviewers have showed that even a 6’5 inch guy can fit in the back with just enough room of the Maverick. It has a as much room as the Colorado twins in back. So no, it isn’t “very compromised”, actually quite the opposite.

#5 the Maverick is on the Escape C2 platform so you are getting a cheap CUV disguised as a truck. This is not the return of the original Ranger. – You do know they can add strength and make changes to a platform right? This isn’t the 1980’s where unibody is incredibly weak anymore, the payload and tow ratings are comfortably what a unibody can handle these days without issue. There are tons of unibody based SUV’s that can tow in excess of 5-8k pounds.

Let’s address the comments in the reply above. MPG is not at all close. Even the 2.0 is close to the diesel in mpg and a solid 4-5 better than the V6. The Hybrid is on another level.

Sure you can get the base LT V6 4wd CCSB at 35k (before delivery) but it adds another nearly 3k to add luxury and safety features that are already found on the loaded maverick, and that still doesn’t have leather (don’t get me wrong I prefer cloth), dual climate, radar cruise, etc.

Let’s not bring pre-covid discussions in to this, you can’t find that any more for either side, not a valid argument.

Considering dimensions aren’t too far externally (few inches short but a few inches wider and taller) and the payload exceeds the old S10/ranger comfortably and just over 2k lbs short on towing, I would say this is as close as you will get to a return of the compact truck.

Honestly the Ridgeline is a fantastic truck in most dimensions to the current crop for those with realistic uses for it (which is most buyers). Sales don’t equal best and the Tacoma is a testament to that. It has a bunch more interior room, better ride, handling and mpg with close/similar truck capabilities. All is comes short on is off roading which honestly 95% don’t do and towing which again, most don’t need the full 7k. So this is/would be an ideal truck for those suburban dads and hold the family more comfortably and safer.

What baggage? All the numbers they post are severely tested, it is capable of what it shows and then some. It comes up short in the same areas as the ridgeline, otherwise it is a much better nag for the buck and better choice for atleast half midsize market of buyers. Problem is people have an image complex, same reason the minivan should sell 10x what they sell as they are a far superior vehicle but again, the image complex. You know how many buddies moms won’t consider them even though they have 2-3 kids and pets but they don’t want to be caught in a mom van (yet every CUV they have looks just like them but less capable). Those that have gotten them can’t praise them enough or that have rented them love them just don’t want that “image”, sadly that is all most of these trucks have become these days, image buys; and that is ruining the market.

Oh well, people like you give these trucks a bad name and the are fantastic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the GM twins, we have both a Silverado and Canyon. I will be replacing my truck with a redesigned Colorado/Canyon in a few years when I am closer to 150k miles as the compact truck (even if GM comes out with one) just won’t be enough truck for my uses. 5k boat and back country trips off road won’t cut it. But the ride, handling, price and room/features make me wish it would. Then again, a longer bed is a necessity, so I really hope they keep the Crew Cab Long Bed in the next redesign.

            1. #1 many claim #20k price when $30k is more realistic. This gentleman even post sub $20k that is not true.

#2 no one is getting this truck below $20k. It is a misleading price.

#3 the lack of general features and even lower than mid side quality is what you are getting.

#4 I own a mid size and have sat in the Maverick front and back. It is lacking room compared to the Ranger or my GM truck. People complain they are short room already.

#5 Did I complain about the uni body? No but the suspension and drive line is FWD based economic car and will not take a beating. It is cheaper to build but you get what you pay for.

The Ridgeline is fine but no one is buying after the initial run for them.

              Here is my point.

These trucks are not as cheap or are that much cheaper than a mid size.

These trucks are not as able to do what the mid size trucks can do.

The MPG is better but not that much better.

Many buying these trucks are people coming from a CUV and in time will return to the CUV as it does little more than what most can do with the CUV.

Finally these are not the second coming of a S10 or old Ranger. Both of those thru k were much more able and better suited for towing off road or hauling a load.

After hauling 30 plus bags of Mulch and with very little sag of my truck showed me I could not haul my needs in these small trucks

The thing going for these trucks is they are built on a cheap FWD platform with other models do when sales settle they can still make a buck on lower numbers.

The mid size trucks are difficult yo make money on as they are nearly as expensive to build as a full size and they are difficult to sell over $40k.

I believe you will lose the long bed. GM is cutting engine and body choices to put the money in more features and better interiors. This is why the new platform changed to a modified old platform. But nothing wrong with that as the old platform was good and just needed some tweaks.

  4. Having just got a 2022 Maverick hybrid XLT and owning 5 pickups previously it is a great truck and meets most of my needs especially for a smaller truck. Nothing against the Colorado/Canyon especially after owning a 1st generation clone a 2008 Isuzu I370 4×4 crew cab which was a good truck. My first fillup in my Maverick I got 50 mpgs and average somewhere around 48 mpgs.
