General Motors has pushed an over-the-air (OTA) software update to the C8 Corvette Stingray that adds a new notification feature for the wireless phone charging pocket.
The 2020, 2021 and 2022 model year Corvette Stingray is offered with a wireless phone charging pad, which is located in a pocket situated between the driver’s and passenger’s seats. As some customers were exiting the vehicle without noticing that their mobile phone was still in the wireless phone charging pocket, GM has now pushed an OTA software update to the vehicle, which allows the vehicle to display a notification in the Driver Information Center (DIC) that a phone is still in the charger pocket.
If owners of C8 Corvette Stingray models equipped with wireless phone charging do not see the notification message displayed when a phone is in the charger pocket, they can double-check to ensure they did not miss or decline a recent OTA update. If the update was not installed, the user can go into the infotainment system and download the latest OTA update for the Wireless Accessory Charging Module software.
Wireless phone charging pads are only compatible with certain smartphones that are equipped with wireless charging functionality. In order for the wireless charging pad in the C8 Corvette Stingray to work, the vehicle must be on or in Retained Accessory Power mode and all objects must be removed from the charging pocket. The user can then place the phone in the pocket with the screen facing out, at which point a battery symbol will appear on the infotainment screen if the phone is indeed charging. If it’s still not charging, the user can check to ensure the phone is properly aligned with the charging coil.
The wireless charging pad feature is standard equipment on the 2LT and 3LT trim levels for the C8 Corvette Stingray. It is not available on the 1LT trim level.

Great idea I’m constantly leaving my phone in the car.
I get the notification, but an audible warning would be helpful.
My Audi A4 did have an audible reminder and I miss that feature in my C8
ZORA is rolling in his grave. Unbelievable
This wonderful charging system is a pain to use! I would much prefer having the lane centering, improved warning for rear approaching vehicle distance and forward crash braking. These safety features are available on other GM vehicle but not on the high prices Corvette! Rear approaching vehicle distance doesn’t even light up in the mirror until it’s even with your rear bumper and nothing indicated in the HUD. GM needs to rethink their safety features for ALL their vehicles. Tomg
I agree that I wish I had lane keeping assist, and forward collision avoidance, something my 5 year old Prius has…
As for the phone charger, I stopped using it, because I kept leaving my phone in the car.
My phone is on a charging cord, laying in the cup holder or on the passenger seat.
I will try the new feature, but likely will not use the built in charger. It’s placement is very inconvenient.
Anywhere forward of my elbow would be helpful, anywhere in line of sight woud help. CarPlay is nice
but it is not everything.
Totally agree. Lane assist and adaptive cruise control would be much more useful features. Autonomous braking may be a problem if the car is tracked unless there were a way to defeat it.
I need to check and see if this push made it down. My door locks will breath a sigh of relief, assuming that the message catches my attention. Michael’s audible warning idea would be a great additional feature, GM?
As for the rest of the automationization of cars, I certainly didn’t pay for a 500 hp sports car so I could sleep or read the paper while being transported to my destination.
Nice piece of information but no graphics showing what it looks like in the info system once you have it installed. The info system shown here is as german graphic?
My phone wont charge due to the Otter Box protective case.
Good by manly Men stick your phones up your asses, GAY GAY GAY
People must not understand that it was not an option to have adaptive cruise control.
