75 Percent Of Hummer EV Reservation Holders Are New To The GMC brand

The Hummer EV is a radical departure from anything that GMC has offered in the past. While many traditional GMC customers will have no interest in a battery-electric off-roader like the Hummer EV, the so-called “supertruck” is doing a great job at attracting all-new buyers to General Motors’ premium truck brand.

According to Automotive News, roughly 75 percent of the people that have reserved a GMC Hummer EV are new to the GMC brand. Additionally, roughly 70 percent of these reservation holders say they are a first-time EV buyer. GM had roughly 65,000 reservations for the Hummer EV Pickup and SUV on its books at the end of March.

The publication also spoke to the dealership manager at Buick-GMC Sherman Oaks in southern California, which is situated near Hollywood and Beverly Hills. This dealership has already sold 17 examples of the 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1, many of which were sold to well-known, famous individuals like celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, for example. This may be a sign that the Hummer EV Edition 1, which is priced from $110,295, has become a status symbol among wealthy, high-profile individuals – something that could be hugely valuable for the GMC brand in the years to come.

For the 2022 model year, all GMC Hummer EV Pickup models delivered will be the fully loaded Edition 1 trim level, which comes with every available option. While this model quickly sold out, GMC boss Duncan Aldred told Automotive News that roughly 80 percent of the remaining reservation holders are adding almost every option to the vehicle anyway – bringing the transaction price close to that of an Edition 1. Many buyers are also spending big bucks on the Hummer’s various official accessories, with Hummer customers on average spending twice as much on accessory items as Sierra or Yukon buyers.

GM said in February that it would build more examples of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup this year than it initially planned due to strong demand, outlining plans to produce as many as 23,000 units this year.

  1. First driving reviews dropped today on the hummer EV. Lots of journalists liked it but called the truck “brash” and “over the top.” But isn’t this what hummer has always been? I think the truck and suv will sell very well. I believe that individuals who can afford to pay the price will be impressed by the tech and equipment. Now let’s see how production speed and quality goes.

    1. Completely agree that Hummer has always been about being over the top. Sounds like mission accomplished. And if most initial buyers are celebrities, that’s a ton of free advertising.

Seems GMC May have a winner on their hands.

    2. H1 Hummer was brash and over the top along the lines of civilian M1 Abrams tank.

This is a Hummer for the Grey Poupon set.

  2. These Hummer EV buyers will be the rich kids, twenty – thirty somethings, white, WASP, athletic, outdoor sports loving, males, in high paying tech jobs.
Am sure GM is data profiling these buyers.

This will be the target marketing group. This vehicle will be a winner and take away from Elon’s Tesla.

    Well done. A+.

    1. David Alan are you profiling?

  3. Sam Mc, have you ever been to SoCal? Sherman Oaks is in the west San Fernando Valley, nowhere near Hollywood let alone Beverly Hills. Why you even had to mention that is puzzling?

  4. Hummer EV is a Grand Slam….GM needs to start producing them in bigger Volume

    1. They don’t need to be sitting on dealer lots collecting dust if overproducing them. GM can’t afford risking adding incentives if overproducing. The Hummer needs to be order-by-sale only. It will be interesting to see how many they will be produce by preorders. Don’t think many will be sitting on lots.

  5. Once the initial rush to buy is over, can’t see these hulks selling large numbers year over year. Wait 2-3 years and B-J Auctions will have many roll across the block.

  6. Sales will be limited to elites due to the $100k+ price!

  7. Honestly, how does one scratch the itch when they already own a private museum full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis?

I feel my profiling is right on target. Lots of Hummer EV’s will be sold in Nor and So Cal, Seattle, Vancouver, front range of Colorado, Santa Fe area, Boston, Toronto, Austin, Texas.

Primarily the mega trend areas. The dark blue political belt. Forget the red political zones.

Urban gangbangers will stick with full sized gasoline SUV’s. Primaily Escalades and Bentley sedans.

A total no no for the Redneck crowd in the South and West.

Will be popular with tech types and network engineers.

Gotta profile if you are to succeed in marketing anything.

  9. Why don’t they just call it the Hummer EV. Calling it a GMC Hummer sounds awkward. Like Chevy Oldsmobile Cutlass.

  10. The Hummer EV is not my cup of tea but it is nice to see it has a following just like the Escalade. IMO, the Escalade IQ will be equally as impressive if not more so than the Hummer.
