The GMC Sierra HD received a full model overhaul for the 2020 model year, with the 2022 GMC Sierra HD offered as the third model year for the fourth-gen nameplate. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2022 GMC Sierra HD is no longer available with the optional 20-inch High Gloss Black aluminum wheels.
Per GM Authority sources, the 2022 GMC Sierra HD’s 20-inch High Gloss Black aluminum wheels will be unavailable to order for the remainder of the 2022 model year for the heavy-duty pickup. Luckily, these 20-inch wheels will once again be available to order by the 2023 model year.
The 20-inch High Gloss Black aluminum wheels for the 2022 GMC Sierra HD are tagged with RPO code SHH, and were offered as an optional extra for AT4 and Denali trim levels. The wheels were previously priced at $2,995, and were offered as an LPO-level option, which means they were installed by the dealer, rather than at the factory when the vehicle was initially produced. As such, units of the 2022 GMC Sierra HD that were ordered with these optional wheels were shipped from the factory with four 20-inch aluminum transit wheels with the proper specs.
To note, the 2022 GMC Sierra HD is offered with a choice of two engine options, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, plus the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 445 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 910 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm. However, as GM Authority covered recently, GM has issued a stop-sale for GMC Sierra HD models equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5P engine. The stop-sale also applies to the Chevy Silverado HD and Chevy Silverado MD.
Under the body panels, the 2022 GMC Sierra HD rides on the more capable version of the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

I’m with you. The whole “murder” look with black wheels, trim, lettering, badging, etc., is bizarre. We live in the age of the ugly.
They are the most ugly dam wheels , then they add all that crap black un finished plastic. The trucks are so ugly. Gm cheap junk
Fun fact: My customers who replace the black plastic wheel flares with paint-matched flares regret it. They get rock chips in very short order. The “unfinished black plastic” hides that damage very well. They’re quite effective. If you don’t like the style, ok, but they aren’t there because they’re cheap. Perhaps you’re not in manufacturing so you haven’t thought through it, but it would be cheaper to have slightly more metal there and paint it all at once. No extra parts, no extra inventory carrying costs for those parts, and no extra assembly time. No extra operations. Just because you don’t understand the reasoning doesn’t mean it isn’t a good reason.
Your customers are people who lift the trucks and place larger tires on them. Rocks, yes that means there off roading which means damage will occur from crap flying up. I have owned over 60 trucks, and never once did I have damage from chips. Your talking GM does this for protection, well thats total BS because they would do wheel well liners standard if that was the case. The stock tires on any of the trucks are not as wide as the fenders so your point is mute, and GM sure as heck did not do it incase someone adds monster mudders. Its a 90K truck thats looks like sh1t with cheap un-finished plastics, Ford Ram and the rest of them are not doing it. The AT4 Yukon does not have them, Even TRUCKZ would not make up something like this and he is loyal to GM like JEFF Zucker is to Brandon.
Maybe these weren’t Self-destructing quickly enough like the Corvette wheels…
