Revealed on October 21st, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 receives a mid-cycle refresh that introduces a long list of changes and updates to the nameplate, including updated exterior styling, a completely overhauled cabin, powertrain improvements, as well as the addition of the off-road 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X trim and new ultra-luxurious Sierra Denali Ultimate range-topper.

The all-new interior features the latest technology, such as a 13.4-inch diagonal screen for the Premium GMC Infotainment System with built-in Google apps, and a 12.3-inch diagonal multicolor driver information center (instrument panel). The new Sierra Denali Ultimate trim level also features the semi-autonomous GM Super Cruise system as standard (optional on Denali trim). Super Cruise delivers semi-autonomous driving and trailering capabilities.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 offers four engine options, starting with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine that now produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet total, followed by the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Under the skin is the same GM T1 platform as the pre-refresh models.

U.S. pricing for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $36,295 including the destination freight charge for the entry-level Sierra Pro trim level. Production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.

  1. My new 2022 Sierra Denali 6.2 engine never gets over 12 mpg even on the highway.
My 2018 got an avg of 18 mpg and 22 mpg on the highway.
Dealer( south Texas GMC) laughed and said live with it.

      1. Guess I’ll hang o to my 2017 SLT with 6.2. Can’t seem to catch up with the skyrocketing prices of the new trucks so I bought bought an extended warranty in January. I paid $45k for my truck when new. Now a new Sierra SLT one is $20k higher. But I do like the refreshed interior of the 2022.

      2. Maybe stop acting like you’re in a car, and press the cruise button for once, then you’ll get 22 mpg

    2. Our 2021 Denali 6.2 averages 19 to 21 mpg using 87 octane fuel. Interstate driving is a little better on average. Factory 22 inch rims and tires. Unless you’re pulling a trailer, loaded or just driving hard it definitely should be better. Maybe try another dealership

      1. Also, it depends on where you live and what tires you use. Lots of liberal cities require “greenie gas” and it sucks on mileage and sucks your wallet. Off road tires will cut you down a lot as well.

    3. if you cant afford the fuel, you can get a nissan versa or chevy bolt , volt, what ever you want to call these death trap junk. large trucks and SUV’s = ROOM TO LIVE .

      1. They are less likely to avoid the wreck and much more likely to roll over which means and even higher chance of dying. Big trucks aren’t any safer. All their good for is against movable object in most cases, other cases they are worse. The best type of vehicle to be in an accident in, a large Sedan. Less likely to roll over, easier to avoid an accident either through braking or swerving and plenty of extra crumple zone room and weight. So maybe don’t just spout off trucks are the safest, cause they aren’t and check some stats first, clueless people…

Look at the personal vehicles of choice for ambulance drivers, first responders, fire and police chiefs, rental car agency executives, tow truck operators. You will find that their vehicle of choice are heavier full size vehicles that can sustain more impact and have more body on frame stability than unibody crunch beer cans.

Go to an insurance salvage auction yard and see what vehicles have held up the best in severe accident situations.

        2. Speaking about that I remember SUVs and pickups trying to keep up with my sport compact on a winding parkway during early morning commute hours, too funny seeing those bumbling buffalos try to pass me. As said if you’re in a vehicle that avoids crashing you don’t have to worry about being in a crash.

  2. I like it. I like the front grille so much better than the last few years. I’ll have to see the color, in person, to really see it. The interior is refreshing, too. It seems like every other week, GM raises the price. I guess we’ll just “bite-the-Bullet” and get one.

  10. Buy a car if you want a car interior! This interior design is not a truck interior. Shifter should also be on column not on the console! Come on man! Bought 2022 limited for this very reason.

    1. Get a Pro trim with the tow mirrors. There problem solved.

  11. Forced bucket seats in a full size pickup suck. You need wiggle room and room for a clipboard, coffee thermos, lunch box, laptop, etc. Also closeness to your honey babe when riding along. Forget the big chest compartment in the middle.

  12. I ordered and bought a ’21 Tahoe Premier w/ 3.0 Dura Max… I think it may be the finest vehicle I’ve ever owned, with magnetic/independent suspension it gives an incredible ride. I get 28 around town and average 31 on freeway at 73 mph.
I’ll never get rid of this machine.

    1. Thanks for the info. I am getting the 3.0 Dura Max on a ’22 GMC Sierra AT4. Always interested in feedback on that the engine. People have said the MPG has been higher than what has been officially stated.

      1. Yes the 3.0 diesel is good on mieage for sure, but from owners I talk to it does not have much pep on take off.

      2. When I got my 21 Tahoe, above, I was shocked at the immediate power, especially when passing.. I’ve driven a 2500 HD Duramax for over 550,000 miles now, a 2003 for 165,000 and a 2007 1/2 for 335,000 miles and even when coming from those powerhouses this 3.0 is really fine. No problem at all on spirit.

  15. Now let’s have some two tone pickups….Also some matching colors in the cab..

  16. Most disgusting color of beige! It looks like GM took an old hand-me-down beige color from Toyota from years before. I was all set to order a refreshed AT4 in satin steel metallic, but GM feels that we should spend $70,000 + for a truck that looks like puke? NOT A CHANCE! There isn’t a single color I’d put on a new truck from GM. Either they figure it out in a hurry or I’ll be shopping a competitor.
