2022 Chevy Bolt EUV Showcases Its 247-Mile Range In New ‘Mom’ Advert: Video

Earlier this week, we shared one of the first advertisements from GM’s new big bucks ad campaign for the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV – a humorous, 30-second spot entitled ‘Life Changes’ that equated being a new EV owner with being an expecting mother.

Now the automaker has uploaded another short spot from this new Chevy Bolt ad campaign. Entitled ‘Mom’, the ad continues the family-oriented theme of the marketing effort, showing a son talking to his mother over speakerphone in his 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV as he drives to his destination. The son appears somewhat disinterested as the mother rambles on about various topics, but as any loving child would, he elects to stay on the phone with her to keep her company. Luckily, the Chevy Bolt EUV has an EPA-estimated range of 247 miles, so the son doesn’t need to worry about running out of battery as he drives around aimlessly listening to his mom’s rather long-winded chatter.

“The all-electric Chevy Bolt EUV. With 247 miles of range on a full charge, it keeps on going,” the voiceover in the ad says. “Find new moments. Find new roads. Chevrolet.”

Just as with the previous ‘Life Changes’ ad, this Chevy Bolt EUV advert is part of GM’s new ad campaign for the electric compact car, which debuted earlier this month during television coverage of opening day Major League Baseball games. The new ad campaign is intended to boost Bolt sales following the vehicle’s large-scale battery fire recall, which forced GM to recall all 140,000 examples of the Bolt and Bolt EUV and issue a stop-sale order on the vehicles. This marketing effort will give the Bolt the second-highest media spend at Chevy this year – behind only the hugely popular and massively profitable Chevy Silverado model line.

As a result of this media spend, GM is predicting sales of the Chevy Bolt and Bolt EUV will reach record levels this year. Sales of the Chevy Bolt EV reached their highest in 2017, when GM sold 23,297 units.

  1. Seems like tough sell with the Hyundai Kona having almost identical range (+11 miles) and price (+$500), but still qualified for the tax credit.

    1. You’re talking about a 60% bigger battery to pull that off. That would probably raise the price to more than $40k to start.
      Not the same vehicle at that point.

    3. Most people rarely, if ever, drive 400 miles in one segment. Home owners and renters can plug in whenever they are at home. I have a 2017 original Bolt with stated 238 miles range, and for the first three years I had it, I just plugged it into a normal 120 Volt wall socket at home overnight. I never found myself not having enough charge to do what I want.

      Apartment dwellers who can’t charge where they live are the exception; they might want to drive all week without charging and then combine a shopping trip with time at a DC charger on the weekend. More range would be better in that case.

      Chevy unlike some manufacturers, ahem Nissan, quotes realistic range numbers. I’ve found I can often do significantly better than Chevy’s promised 238 miles. With gas at $4.00, it is kind of nice to drive 238 miles using $7.80 of electricity. That is the cost equivalent of getting 122 MPG.

  4. My wife does this when talking to her parents…I couldn’t even guess how many miles are put on her car just from driving around talking on the phone. I usually end my phone calls with “I just got home, so I’ll talk to you later…”

  6. Did anyone else take note of the brief, split second shot of the Bolt passing by a gas station with several cars filling up? Subliminal advertising….

    t’s an OK commercial, one that would work best as one of a chain of different Bolt commercials rather than a stand alone commercial shown repeatedly over time. I do think the first Bolt ‘Life Changes’ commercial could successfully be repeatable.

    1. What is surprising is my basement dehumidifier uses a lot more electricity than I use driving my Bolt. Something tells me that getting the cost equivalent of 122 MPG with $4 gas might help sell some electric cars,

      By the way, I like to use cost equivalent MPG based on the price of gas. The MPGe number usually quoted is meaningless to most people. MPGe requires thinking about a gallon of gas as about the same energy as 33 KWH of electricity, and then you have to do the math to convert the cost of gas at $4 per gallon and compare to 13 cents per KWH. My head hurts just thinking about it,

      1. Why not just use the actual kWh? I mean the miles per kWh is easy to understand, and your electric cost per kWh is easy to find. It’s even pretty easy to know the size of a battery in kWh.

      2. Wait till they start adding road taxes, Fed & State. Home chargers will have to collect them as well. Also, increasing demand will force $/kWh up just as it does $/gal. You know it’s coming.

  10. GM needs new marketing … with some tangeable info,.. maby some facts to help the consumer to become informed??? All the hype is not working! I have been driving a Volt for 9 years and almost everyone I have talked to do not know that it also has a gas engine! Poor marketing!!

  11. Je trouve abérant de lancer des campagnes publicitaires pour des véhicules électriques que Général Motor n’est pas capable de planifier une livraison dans un temps raisonnable. J’attends toujours une bolt euv commander en juin 2021. Je ne peux savoir un mois ou je vais la recevoir. La majorité des concessions sont dans cette position.
