General Motors has revealed the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, introducing a a brand-new, battery-powered pickup truck bearing the iconic Chevy Silverado nameplate. Now, we’re getting up close and personal with this cutting-edge GM offering with the following exclusive detailed exterior tour.
Hosted by GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft and captured on the floor of the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV in this video is the well-equipped RST First Edition model, with GM also previously unveiling the fleet-oriented WT model. To note, the example in this video is a pre-production vehicle, so the final design may differ somewhat, while the blue paint is also not a production color.
Despite the name, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is completely unrelated to the ICE-powered Silverado lineup, boasting a completely different design, mechanicals, and underlying structure.
Up front, the new Silverado EV is characterized by a thin LED lighting strip that runs across the upper fascia, incorporating a back-lit Chevy Bow Tie badge. The RST logo is seen in red and back, while the front end is flat for enhanced aerodynamics. The primary LED headlights are found in the corners lower in the fascia, just above small air intakes.
In the corners of the vehicle, we see large allow wheels with a two-tone finish and an intricate design. The wheels are sized at 24 inches in diameter, making for the largest factory wheels ever fitted to the Chevy Silverado from the factory. Assist steps are seen between the wheels for easy ingress and egress, while black mirror caps with integrated puddle lighting are also included.
Moving around towards the rear, we see a prominent sail panel, which integrates nicely with the roof spoiler. The taillight graphics are also quite interesting, and include a unique lighting animation. The Chevy Multi-Flex tailgate is onboard for enhanced practicality, while revised corner steps are seen lower in the bumper.
In the bed, we also spot a useful midgate feature. Electric outlets are plentiful. The main charge port is located in the driver’s side rear fender.
Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV rides on the GM BT1 architecture, an EV-dedicated platform that also underpins the GMC Hummer EV. RST First Edition trim levels will feature a dual-motor e4WD system rated at 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque with the available Wide Open Watts Mode.

The EV looks like a plastic snap together model from my childhood. all that cheap black plastic looks cheap and it will all start turning white in a year , and everyone knows it won’t kick fords ass at all. look at the avalanche’s you still see today , the plastic’s are shot. the new lighting looks good even thow I dont want a EV.
You cry more than a kid that just dropped their candy int the dirt. Everything black on the RST above is painted.
All the textured plastic on the back is not painted , this is gm’s way of doing two tone now, the unfinshed plastics turn white in a years time. GM trucks look like Kia quality trucks, hell they move the bow tie on the grill every year. im sure you like the car like sissy dash in the new 1500 trucks, the trucks are cheap looking , and no wow factor. cheap thin seats , little tiny knobs on the dash , good for a year tires , stupid bumper steps know one uses , tailgate step that hits the hitch receiver , stupid bed steps no one uses, and its black unfinshed plastic looks just like it after market , take denali or high counrty off the door and gm trucks look like a custom work truck. its marys way of bean counting and gm die hard fans just continue to settle for trucks they know have cheap quality issues.
Still whining I see. If you watch the video you can literally see the paint metallic in the flares, bumpers and side skirting. It would be stupid to paint surfaces you step on or drag things across. The base WT may not be painted, but the RST absolutely is. All truck brands use a lot of cheap plastic where possible and have for decades. At least GM’s aren’t mostly made out of pop cans. Your living in the past with your interior statements. New interiors look just as good as anyone else is doing at the moment. If you don’t like GM that’s fine, but why constantly complain about everything if your not a customer? That’s called trolling.
More info please! Will we be getting a bigger frunk or not? Front bench option? Rear under-seat storage? Anyone even sat in the rear yet? Is it comfy for long trips? Any real info on range or still guessing? Is GM including chargers? What are the circuit requirements? Still just two versions?
The avalanche is near 10yrs old to be fair..
the avalanche is one of the best chevy ever made I had three of them and still own one today can’t beat them. You know chevy always kicks fords ass that’s why you’re on this site and not ford site.
It looks like a pretty well thought out vehicle. Too bad you couldn’t get inside. The wheels look like plastic bolt on covers. That rear bumper step looks like a step in the right direction, pardon the pun, because it’s more to the side where you would be in trying to get up there into the bed.
Looks alot like an Avalanche. I told the GM girls at a recent auto show that GM should put a V8 and a standard transmission in it and they would sell 100,000 first year. They just looked at me. I am sure I wasn’t the first guy to say that to them.
By the way, we have had 2 Avalanches and still have one. I would buy a brand new one in a heartbeat if GM would build them again.
The GM girls at the auto shows are hired models. They have very limited product knowledge. Automakers hire them as eye candy for their displays. Common age old marketing practice. Lots and lots of attractive “eye candy” at SEMA. It works and is very successful.
Ford Sucks
Just Dosen’t look like a truck. It’s an opened back SUV for city folk.
Designed and built for the urban, suburban masses and Rexall Rangers. You will not find this in the oil and gas field, mine and construction sites and doing farm and ranch work. Pickups have mainly gone from industrial utility vehicles to ride and handling cruisers. This is where the $$$ is.
If you really need “more truck” you’re probably looking at a 3/4 ton anyway. The Silverado EV will meet the needs of most current Silverado 1500 owners (whether they believe it or not).
Is this thing still steel bodied or did they finally go to aluminum? I am sick of Chevy rust.
All that plastic will look like crap in no time here in sunny CA.
What is the range on this fully charged unit and what is the GVW rating. Can this unit pull a 12,000lb 5th wheel camper.
There’s a model with 20K towing rating on the way.
with a 5 mile range
The design has a lot of Chevy Truck heritage in it and it’s definitely a GM Design.
Just as God awful ugly like the rest of GM trucks! Glad I left Government Motors for Ford! Just waiting on my new Ford Ranger order to come in
Good for you, now go join a Ford forum!
You aren’t the website dictator.
You are missed at Ford Authority.
LOOKS GOOD TO ME
Nice looking truck I would buy one and for everyone complaining about the black plastic… Unlike the first generation Avalanche this plastic is painted and clear coated just watch the video the Avalanche black plastic never shined like this so no it won’t fade in the sun besides I am sure GM will also offer full body colors without the black trim and yes in my opinion it is much better looking then the Ford lightning! Good job Chevy. 👍👍
CHEVY MAN ,
dont act like GM paints all there un-finished crap black plastics, the GMC denali HD has unfinished plastics on bed steps, bumper steps, wheel lip moldings, mirrors, bumper, bed caps, front bumper, side step boards , ect then up move inside the truck for the blown plastic interiors with cheap thin seats, and little tiny dash knobs, and a new car like dash. last time I checked , you 90K + for all that crap that will turn white in two years. GM crap
Clay I am talking about the Silverado EV not a GMC Sierra HD…. Get your story straight TROLL! If you hate the truck so much then why did you buy one?? Don’t people test drive vehicles anymore? And I will admit the RAM is the best looking if you like your truck at at the dealership for recall after recall and things breaking all the time just look up the crappy Chrysler quality on Google… I will buy GM thank you!
Ahhaa 🤩 Informative Article & interesting also
Where is the 3 Peace bed cover that’s what I really liked on the avalanche to cover the bed I’ll buy the truck if I get the awesome hard cover!!!! Is it a option??
