State Of Washington To Ban Gas-Powered Vehicles By 2030

Washington state is set to ban the sale of most new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2030.
A bill signed into law by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee last week indicates the state will instruct its interagency electric vehicle coordinating council to complete a scoping plan by December 31st, 2023, which will outline how to achieve the 2030 target. The measure, known as Clean Cars 2030, is described as “the most aggressive state target in the U.S. for the phaseout of gasoline cars,” setting a goal of outlawing the sale of such vehicles five earlier than California’s much-talked-about 2035 deadline.
The measure was passed as part of a so-called “Move Ahead Washington,” transportation package that was detailed last week, which is valued at nearly $17 billion. Legislators say the bill will help to “spur public and private investment in EVs and EV charging infrastructure and help Washingtonians save money on vehicle fuel and maintenance while enjoying cleaner air and water.”
The measure was first introduced by Washington Representative Nicole Macri in 2020, but was only signed into law by Inslee last week.
“Clean Cars 2030 puts Washington on the road to powering its vehicles with cheap, clean, renewable electricity produced in-state and reduces the threat that oil and gasoline pose to our air, water, health, and economy,” Macri said in a prepared statement.
In addition to Washington, a variety of other states have previously outlined their own plans to outlaw the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles within a certain timeframe, including New York and California. The federal government in Canada has also said it will outlaw new gasoline and diesel vehicle sales by 2035, while the Biden Administration has set a target of achieving 50 percent EV market share in the U.S. by 2030.
With federal and state governments moving to outlaw gasoline vehicle sales, the automotive industry is reacting accordingly. Virtually every major automaker now has its own aggressive EV rollout strategies, including GM, which previously said it would launch 30 new EVs globally by 2025. GM also said it will invest more than $35 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles by mid-decade.

Will this be repealed in a budget bill like the no bail law in NY was? I’m actually surprised NY is recognizing their stupid and fixing some of their mistakes.
Brandon and Camela are chitting in their pants! They’ll love it!
Let’s go Brandon!
Rent free is talking about people who are no longer In office. You clearly have no clue what the word means.
Did you hear that from Hillary or read it in the Fake News?
Oh, thought free googled something. Brilliant genius. Your boy Biden’s a disaster, all you do is post whataboutism nonsense.

Jake:
It’s spelled: “..they’re stupid…”
Females?, From these decisions I’d agree…
That’s spelled DEMOCRAT OR LIBERAL
Virtual signals ahead, they’ll vote this extreme Lefty out just like the extreme Lefty in the other Washington in the next few years, Washington state climate wouldn’t support EVs in the interior of the state.
I’m all for EVs, this is not how you do it..
It’s when a politician cares more about following an ideology to pander to a fringe element rather than governing for the good of all of his or her citizens.
Lets Go Brandon… Highest inflation in 40 years. Highest gas prices ever.. Talking stupid sh!t trying to piss Putin off big time, than tries to backpedal his way out… Yea, FJB..
I’m a lawyer I’m superior to you
How’s Alaska?
Fake. You are not the real h4cksaw. You are a imposter who the real h4cksaw called out earlier.
Social engineering.
Can’t afford an electric car. Ride the bus. Can’t afford a (overpriced because I’m sure you can’t bring one from out of state) used ice. Ride the bus
What did the World Economic Forum say? You won’t own anything and you will love it. The WEF’s vision for the common man is to live in a 250 square foot apartment in a high density apartment block and use public transportation. I am sure the WEF envisions the leaders living in gated community luxury estates, though.
Wow genius you just described a politician. Well done
Na most small business owners I have ever encountered are just trying to make a decent living. CEO’s like the lifer at GM are paid way too much for the poor performance they churn out!
At least we can agree that CEOs are paid way too much.
Eric Vest: A+ to you.
Your comment on the World Economic Forum forum about high density housing and public transportation is spot on. Denver now has high density high rise housing downtown and high density mid rise residential complexes outside the core and in the suburbs. Salt Lake City has hundreds of mid rise high density residential projects within the city and throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Reno has several huge mid and low rise high density residential projects currently.
In fact Reno has a huge mid rise high density residential complex just being completed called the Reno Experience in the site of a former mall shopping center. I predict the Reno Police Department will eventually have a substation in this complex to handle domestic violence and drug abuse related calls.
Aside from all this, the vehicle traffic in Denver, Salt Lake City and Reno is now just like Los Angeles. So public transportation will eventually need to come into further play, along with alternative smaller vehicles.
With this new lifestyle living for the masses, Mary and her corporate strategy team I feel are spot on with mini autonomous busses and small autonomous electric cars for people residing in these high density complexes. Also the workplace will shift from multi floor commercial offices to apartment suites with computer workstations. The newer generations will be automatons having their tangible goods and food/beverage delivered by Amazon, Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, etc. It will be a completely closed loop system.
Outside of this, IC vehicles will still rule outside of these living spaces if market choice has it the Adam Smith way versus mandatory state and electric vehicle laws and regulations which will eventually be challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court. Stay tuned for this. Let the Constitution prevail. We are in for very historic and exciting times.
More like historic and tragic times.
More like everything’s fine.
So apartments are a conspiracy now too. Lol.
David, thank you for the post. It seems like many of the pro -BEV posters want to force everyone out of ICE vehicles and it is impossible to reason with them. If you look at the facts BEV’s are not an environmental panacea. The power plants powering the BEV cars pollute and the mining/manufacturing involved in lithium ion batteries is very bad. Most people don’t realize it, but a lot of the pollution from cars is created during the manufacturing process. It seems like the pro-BEV posters are all about in top down control with a disdain for anyone else’s preferences or freedom in general. Fortunately, I don’t see this insufferable behavior in my region of the country.
The power plants pollute less than ICE cars do collectively though.
1. What are low income people supposed to do?
2. EVs aren’t even all that “greener”, do ur research!
That does not matter. The commie politicians out there know more about vehicles than the car companies.
1. Low income people don’t buy new cars silly
2. You don’t know that
It seems you’re lost. They buy used ones, and how many non ICE used ones will there be and reasonable prices by that point?
There so hellbent on regulating things they know nothing about let them pay for it instead of the consumer.
No. But I want the government to let me buy the vehicle I want.
Apparently the state of Washington and other states are trying.
Do you live in Washington and is it 2030?
Middle class buy new budget cars, and used luxury vehicles and lower class buy used budget cars. What’s this means is that the upper middle class will have used cars and the rest of the middle class will have to use public transit. Those filthy peasant’s! Let them drive cake!
Didn’t you hear Fancy Puklosi talking about her and her husband dinner time habits? She said ”her husband always eats a 8 pm (when the rich get reservations at fancy restaurants) and she always eats at 5:30 with the PEASANTS!! Now you know what demon rats think of their constituents and their low IQ voters that keep them in office. PEASANTS!! HAHAHAHAHAHA Keep voting Stupid/Democrat!
Because your comments are indicative of the typical Republican voter, I will never be one. Because you sound like a real jackazz
aww @Go Green… did your feelings get hurt?? You poor baby.. Go cry in your safe place and when your finished come back out and take your pink unicorn for a ride thru a rainbow. I’m sorry you were babied as a kid and now can’t handle the real world.
Nobody cares who you vote for. Nobody knows you and nobody cares what side you lean on.
I care.
Will the real shockandawe please stand up.
Thought free
@Charlie
That’s an idiotic comment. Low income people absolutely buy new cars. Low income does not mean poverty.
Clean cheap energy. Really. Over 80% of electricity comes from coal fired plants. Keep drinking the cool aid.
So you think the way things are today is the way they’ll always be?
I actually don’t. But the narrative…?
All electrics do, for now, is just move the tailpipe from the end of your car to the coal furnace.
I have NO PROBLEMS with change. But change that is built on a LIE/HALF TRUTH might not stand when people become the wiser…
Then future ‘change’ is jeopardized by past ‘half truths…”
Oh really. So then please explain to us how man caused climate change before the internal combustion engine, airplanes, cargo ships and factories. What happened in the 1400’s, 1500’s, 1600’s, 1700’s and 1800’s to cause the climate to continually change? Why did we have an ice age and then things started warming up millions of years ago? Did dinosaur farts change the climate and kill them off millions of years ago? I’m waiting with popcorn in hand for your Libtard fear mongering “the world is going to end tomorrow” response that this group has been saying for the past 50 plus years!
GREAT ANSWER Shockandawe. 98% of the world’s scientists agree, but a bunch of clowns living in their mom’s basement somehow know better because they saw it on Faux News or read it on some ultra-right wing website. Buffoons…
Funny it’s cable news according to everybody who watches it that keeps saying we are all doomed and are going to be dead in insert date here like they have been the past 50 plus years. These comical CNN and MSNBC news articles are plastered all over the internet and it’s hard to not notice them
BTW genius I don’t watch cable news or live in a basement- I have my own house, go out and work and am probably far older than you are and apparently much wiser and make up my own mind and decisions. None of your prattling has proven anything and Shockandawe is hardly an authority on anything and never will be!
You misunderstand. I believe in climate change. But, as long as our country prioritizes PROFITS, we will never come to a real solution that is in the BEST interest of everyone, not just those who make decisions and have money.
The current narrative for electric vehicles is a HALF TRUTH at best! I see the benefits, but you can’t keep lying to people in this day and age. Too easy to research (from various sources) the truth.
Then, you already know the lesson about the boy who cried wolf…
Yes it is real and happening, however no one is dying or ever will die from climate change. It’s a really slow process, one degree by 2100, maybe. There may be some property damage, but that’s it. Humanity will adapt. Which by the way is where the focus should be, on adapting. The data indicates that even if all the Paris accord goals were met it would have little to no effect on temperature increase. So let’s adapt.
NO IT ISN’T! If you hadn’t been indoctrinated, you would know about Precession of the Equinoxes. The Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn are moving farther North (cancer) and South (Capricorn) Every Year. The sun never shined on the North side of my house in Jacksonville Fl. when I first moved here. NOW IT DOES! Anyone with a Brain (sorry liberals) would know this is the reason the weather is changing. When the Sun is shining Closer to the North Pole each year, yeah, it will warm it up more, DUH. If you Liberals can’t understand this, pull your head out and look at where the sun shines instead of where it Doesn’t.
Now that’s some real crazy talk there boy! I think your tin foil hat needs adjusting! 😉
Well, again, if we’re talking about 98% of peer-reviewed scientific articles vs. some dude on a car forum who saw some Facebook post, I’m going with the former.
Then there is the recent study showing that converting land to grow corn has had a NEGATIVE effect releasing more carbon into the air every time the soil is tilled to grow the corn! (unnecessary destruction of grasslands and forests for NO good reason.) It has been proven it will take around 24 years to reach the Break Even point from all that land destruction releasing CO2! And then even longer to do any good! Switchgrass has been proven to be much better on the environment to make ethanol, but the Fat Cat Demon rat Politicians make more money from kickbacks to Big Corn by demanding it be made from corn! That’s the Major reason for the Jump in CO2, not fossil fuels! Keep voting Stupid/Democrap!
I agree that corn subsidies to make ethanol are stupid, but I disagree that’s the major reason for the Jump in CO2, not fossil fuels. That’s not even close to being true. And yes I will keep voting Democrat because they haven’t completely lost their minds like the crazy marjorie taylor greene republitards have.
Weird how Big Corn primarily donates (bribes) to the GOP and not the Democrats.
GURTY is Wrong Again! – The demonrats LOVE Ethanol!! and the kickbacks to their campaigns! -Farm-state candidates like Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Sherrod Brown of Ohio have touted their long-standing support for the Renewable Fuel Standard. Vice President Joe Biden also supported a robust RFS before and during his time in Barack Obama’s administration, and he’s given no indication that would change if he runs. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, an anti-establishment iconoclast who once criticized ethanol mandates for their “negative impact on farmers and consumers,” already flip-flopped when he ran for president in 2016; he now calls ethanol “an economic lifeline to rural and farm communities in Iowa and throughout the Midwest.”
Urban Democrats like New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a climate activist who once dismissed ethanol as morally and environmentally indefensible “unless what you’re trying to do is help the people in Iowa,” now say it makes sense as a transitional fuel until electric vehicles are more widely available. A spokeswoman for New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who in the past has criticized biofuels derived from food crops as economically and environmentally problematic, says she now “supports the Renewable Fuels Standard and the full range of biofuels it is designed to promote.”
According to the US Energy Information Agency 21.8% of Electricity in the US is produced via Coal. All Fossil Fuels together are 60.8%. So, no, your statement that 80% comes from coal is wrong.
Plus the poor and middle class can’t afford it period, people need to wake up.
Idiots. Washington state has turned into a real sewer the last five years under their “great” leadership.
Used to be. Seattle has become a war zone because of the great far-left leadership.
So do I. Your point?
I’m a lawyer you aren’t as smart as me. I’m way more superior then you are.
Just clarifying the whole rock thing.
LMAO. Here they go legislating another nightmare that will turn out to be more mess than solution–IDIOTS. But then blame it on the fools who voted that way putting these idiots in power.
I hope the good folks in the Pacific Northwest will enjoy the rolling blackouts and waiting 2 hours to charge your car for another 200 miles. Rest assured the idiots that signed this bill will have plenty of electricity for themselves.
I don’t rely on any news source. I inform and educate myself and have not forgotten what common sense is.
CNN and MSNBC tells people they should be afraid of climate change all the time. Is that where you get you’re news from?
Fake. You aren’t the real Shockandawe
You steal a persons user name because you are upset about something they said in the past. You are trying to use a persons name who is well known on here to act like them and say things they would never say you’re a clown. I’ve seen Shockandawe comment on this website for over a year now and you are not him.
Ok sorry you’re right I’ve changed it.
Then what got you so terrified of global warming?
Mostly the IPCC reports and NASA data. As well as peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Ignore the post below: not mine. The way this, world is going, I personally think it will be destroyed within 100 years.
Ignore those other two, I’m the real Tigger and I say bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy fun fun fun fun fun.
Another example of Failed Leadership and Respect for their citizens. This is Big News at a Left Wing Corp.
Votes matter.
What are they trying to do take us back to horse and buggy and oh by the way there are alot of products that use oil and on top if everything they don’t tell you about electric vehicles is of they are in a wreck the batteries can explode, they have a larger carbon footprint than gas and the batteries are more toxic than what we currently have .also what in the heck am I supposed to pull my horse trailer with .
You forgot to mention, Paula, that EVs are literally lead sleds that will inflict a lot of damage if they hit another vehicle.
You nay be wrong about the horse and buggy, the communist left may want to make horses extinct because they emit too much Co2s.
Since you correctly mentioned the danger of EV’s being so dangerous in any accident they are involved in due to their weight and where it is located, the First Responders have been attending classes for well over a decade on how dangerous it is for all those involved in any accident with any EV. Dangerous for First Responders, occupants of the EV and occupants of the other vehicle(s) involved. The EV Lobbyists are going to great lengths to hide that information but if you have a friend, neighbor or relative that is a First Responder, ask them if they have been to these classes yet. Electrocution is a real possibility and so is a Lithium Ion fire which is difficult to extinguish.
Mind free
You can add. I’m impressed!
I can also add up the fact you’re a white supremacist!
What sewer did you dig that comment from?
.
This is absolutely insane. These so called progressive state legislatures are blindly caught up in the flavor of the moment climate thing. They fail to understand that methane vent stacks on residential, commercial and industrial sanitary sewers contribute 100x’s more pollution than IC engines. So please everybody stop relieving yourselves of liquid and solid bodily wastes that is creating sewer gas methane being harmfully vented into the atmosphere.
And just think David, how much all those millions of illegal invaders Biden has let in that are contributing to the Sewer Pollution! Keep voting Stupid/Democrat!!
Brain free.
It took you nearly two hours to come up with that.
And it took 2 brain cells for you to come up with your usual lame response. Again your point?
Idiots!
Wonder if this precludes someone from buying a car out of state and bringing it into Washington State? The law of “unintended consequences” will certainly be interesting to watch.
I bet the dealers in Washington are estatic over this. I wonder how many will just throw up their hands and close up shop.
In most cases you cannot buy a new vehicle without one.
What a bozo. You don’t like what the real Shockandawe says so you try to use his name and change everything he has said on here for months. @Alex Luft @GMA admins why do you allow these clowns to do this? You should band this bozo’s email from ever being able to post again. This bozo has used h4cksaw name tigger name and Shockandawe name, as well as Ken and all the trump names crazy you guys would allow this sort of thing to happen.
Where will they get all of the electricity needed to charge all of those EV’s? Uh, haven’t figured that out yet?? Burn more fossil fuels, of course! Dummies!
The excess electricity they now sell to Californication will remain in WA out of necessity.
Don’t you understand, electricity comes out of the wall?? Thats why its so cheap and clean. LOL
Rolling blackouts will be one of the results. The current grid can’t support the increased load of EV charging. Clueless in Seattle
The president said the grid needs work so are you calling him a liar? What a trashy trump supporter.
You just said it would be fine the president says it’s not. I choose to believe the president before I believe some random internet goof.
Me too.
On the other hand it leaves more gas and oil for the rest of us!
Hopefully lower gas demand will drive down prices. We will need the extra money to pay taxes to subsidize EV’s.
Can you say ” knee-jerk, reactionary libturds” ? People will now be leaving Washington in droves just like they are doing exiting California. Just hope they don’t bring their radical, extremist left-wing, wokie insanity with them to Pollute other States. Maybe these voters will wake up and discover what a bunch of idiots they voted into office in their State ? But based on recent history, that seems doubtful….must be something about the deary, cloudy, rainy weather in heavily populated areas of Washington State that causes brain fade.
No! Please don’t let them emigrate and spread their problems to other states!
I guess they should also plan on banning asphalt for their roads, and while they are at it, all the plastic that goes into a vehicle, as well as the tires. Someone should throw a net over them !
More and more the plastics are recycled garbage. Another bad democratic idea?? Check out the Rivian.
Whatever happened to freedom? Oppression at a cost of $17,000,000,000 that we the taxpayer are paying for, and that’s only the beginning.
You are to stupid to understand what’s going on. You are just a typical high school drop out bum speaking on things you can’t comprehend.
Too*
Buy the time it takes place the power company’s will be charging so much you won’t be able to afford it anymore they just announced a 25 % increase where will it be buy 2030
All you right wing naysayers will be proven wrong over the next 10 – 20 years, because as Warren Buffet famously said, “Nothing can stop America when you get right down to it. Never bet against America.” That’s why he’s a multi-billionaire and you’re not, and why all the “smart-money” is lining up behind EVs, EV infrastructure and green energy. So you can keep shouting IT’LL NEVER WORK from the rooftops, because that’s what people who don’t understand history always do, and history will leave you behind just like the buggy whip manufacturers. And a bunch of Thumbs Down here won’t change that. So you can either get with the program and thrive or keep resisting change and get left behind. And politics has little to do with it, as that’s just another false narrative you’ve erroneously bought into. There are MARKET FORCES at work here.
You mean the 2% of sales and 0.5% of the active vehicle fleet? Sure, sell EVs, but the government making plans to ban ICE causes them to have to develop EVs…that isn’t market forces. Give people a choice. That would be the market at work.
All OEMs are rushing to develop EVs anyway, and anyone paying attention knows this.
Because the government is forcing their hand…
No they’re doing it because Tesla’s market cap is higher than GM, Ford and Stellantis’ combined. I’m guessing you don’t know what “market cap” means so I’ll give you a clue: It has nothing to do with hats lol
Fair point but going back to the sales numbers, that isn’t based in reality either.
Lots of people care about market cap you are just to stupid to understand it.
Stop using my friends name. You are not Shockandawe you are an imposter. @ GMA @Alex Luft why do you allow these guys to do this? Why not ban them? Can you not ban the email addresses these pricks are using?
So Huey I am guessing you have all your money in Tesla stock since you and Buffet are so sure of yourself?
All my money is in mutual funds and real estate. I don’t invest in individual stocks.
So I see you don’t you don’t really have that much faith in EV’s. At least not enough to put actual money toward it.
I actually love ignorant people, as they’re not competing with me or my three college educated kids for the high paying jobs of the future 😉
How many people did the buggy whip manufacturers employ?
Your post is very strange. Washington State regulation is not market forces and battery electric vehicles do not equate to America.
Boeing has already moved their headquarters to Chicago. Bet by 2030 they will move all their manufacturing out of Washington too! Liberal Bitrds are about as bright as the a burned out bulb.
This is so asinine. What are they going to do when the electrical grid is overtaxed or a storm comes and takes out the electrical grid for a week or more?
Losing power to your home for an extended period is bad enough. Things will be much worse if you now have to walk everywhere because your vehicle doesn’t have power either.
