Refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Now Arriving In Dealerships

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 has begun landing at General Motors dealerships in the U.S. after production setbacks delayed the truck’s arrival.

GM Authority came across a handful of photos on social media this week showing different refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 models sitting either indoors in dealership showrooms, or outdoors on the lot. Production of the full-size pickup began at the GM Silao Assembly facility in Mexico on February 21st, two weeks later than the initially planned start date of February 7th. Production of the pickup is set to begin at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana on March 14th, later than the initially scheduled March 6th. Unlike the closely related Chevy Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 will not be produced at the GM Oshawa Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada.

While customers may see the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 on dealer lots, it’s likely the truck will still be somewhat hard to come by in the coming weeks as GM works to ramp up production amid sustained high demand for its full-size truck models. In the meantime, interested parties can use the online configurator tool to build their preferred 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 specification and view a complete pricing breakdown. The configurator tool went live on GMC’s website earlier this month.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra introduces an all-new redesigned exterior, a heavily overhauled interior with new technologies, including new standard and available display screens. This updated model also adds two new available trim levels: the off-road-focused AT4X and the lavishly appointed Denali Ultimate. The truck is available with four powertrains, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now producing 24 percent more torque for a maximum of 430 pound-feet), as well as the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 and 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engines, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax.

Pricing for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will start at $34,995 including the destination freight charge for the entry-level Pro trim level.

    1. Lucky you are! Ordered a truck back in july, got cancelled before the Holidays, had to put up another order this time for the updated model, I still do not have an ETA, only thing I have is a confirmation that it has been factory accepted.

It s been 8 months now.

      Reply
      1. So factory accepted could mean 1100 – Preliminary order Accepted or 2000 which means the dealer has an allocation and is Accepted for production. 1100 means, you’re in the queue – no commitment to be built until the unit is picked up by GM. Typically orders are picked up on Saturdays and Tuesdays and GM let’s the dealers know by Thursday which units they have picked up for production – goes to status 2000.

  3. Where are these located? I’ve never seen trucks get built and delivered in less than 4 weeks…

    Reply
    1. Most likely these were pre-production units. They were GM issued orders put thru the floor to train production personnel and ensure production line was laying flat. They went thru all the same quality checks as true production units so they could actually sell them.

      1. I did a build on the GMC page and hit view inventory… it shows 366 units as of yesterday in transit… that was just on the Denali trim…. So I would think that production either started before the 21st or there are a bunch of pre-production models sitting somewhere.

        1. I’ve been watching that myself – waiting for GM to pick up my order that is @ 1100. My dealer had me put in a reservation for $100 to tie my order to it. It’s funny though from what I can see, doesn’t look like any Titanium has been built yet… I’m wondering if that color is constrained at the moment.

Is the color change based on your dealer giving an update on the Titanium Rush being delayed? I have a Titanium Rush AT4 ordered, did your dealer find out some additional info?

                1. From what I know, Titanium Rush is not available at this point – not sure I heard could be not until 2023.

It is also listed as the paint code for Dark Ash Metallic on the suburban and tahoe. Seems like the same color too.
And there are quite of few suburbans and tahoes having been produced with that color.

    2. Most seem to be in Texas, as they are coming up from the Mexico plant. The main image truck is at James Wood in Denton, TX according to the advertising license plate on the front. I will personally wait until Ft. Wayne-produced trucks start showing up. I know it may not matter to some, but I want my truck to have a ‘1’ as the first character of the VIN.

  6. The price went up and the options went down. No heated seats or steering wheels! For the kind if money they’re asking for these trucks that’s a deal breaker.

    Reply
    1. It’s has heated seats and wheel, technically, just not the chips to make them operable. Chips can be installed at a later date once supply returns… Easier said than done of course. But it is at no cost to the owne.

      Reply
    2. GM has already stated that the higher trim levels (Denali, Denali ultimate and High Country) would come with all of those features functioning. Not stating any other trim levels, I would assume those will need a chip installed after purchase.

      Reply
    3. Options did go down…. As in there are more standard features on the refresh that you don’t need to option. There are almost no options on the top trims as everything is now included. This goes down to the mid trims as heated steering wheels and power sets are now standard as well. Only the Pro trim sees more options as they now let you get SLE options on the pro trim.

Your best bet is to go on YouTube and search “Denali ultimate” since that is the color they launched it with. From what I can tell, it’s a really dark gunmetal with a bluish hue to it.

  16. So many of us are in status 1100 – Preliminary Order; once it’s picked up by GM is goes to status 2000. Then once its accepted by production control it goes to 3000. At status 3300 – it is scheduled for production

My understanding is until you hit 3000 you can make changes.

You should follow-up with your dealer as to what status it’s at. If it was picked up over a week ago – it’s most likely at 3000 or 3300.

Usually it’s approx. 4 – 6 weeks from this stage.

    1. I received an email from GMC about 2 weeks ago saying my order was accepted, so I assume Im at status 2000. Has anyone seen or have an estimated time frame as to when it goes to status 3000?

        2. I placed my order on a 3.0 CarbonPro AT4 on December 15th. I spoke to the dealer today, he said last week was his first week he could order 1/2 tons without major constraints on trim and motor configurations. Not sure if that was a restriction to all dealers or if it’s a lower volume location that has just been given additional allocations…Whatever the case, it now shows GM has accepted my order and is (finally) moving forward with production, however I don’t have a production date. Is it fair to assume the CarbonPros are only being built in Fort Wayne? My assumption is they can’t give a production date when the factory is on idle until next week? Hopefully your Ultimate gets a picked up soon! I’m blown away they aren’t building Ultimates yet. I would have thought they’d want the flagships out and driving around catching eyeballs.

  17. curious to see how this is going to play out when these so called refreshes are on the lot with the current 2022 Limited or what ever you call them (left over 2021’s). and when you go into the dealer and see 2 different 2022 models. the dealer near us has a ton of the limited lined up,so if these other ones show up this is gonna be good. they will probably get away with it some how like back in the 70’s when GM was putting 350 chevy V8’s in Caddys etc.

    Reply
    1. Yeah I am curious how they will do that- will have to make sure it is not a Limited; and when will they indroduce the 2023s- and what will those look like/ change in features/ packages etc…

  18. A friend of mine told me today that for this weeks consensus – TPW of 4/11 – 4/17 there are no AT4’s, AT4X’s or Denali Ultimates. I was optimistic my AT4 Standard Bed would get picked up this week. Looks like there are less than 50 units available 6.2L V8 in the country – go figure – looks like it’s going to be slower than anticipated.

    Reply
    1. MRV861792:

My suggestion to you is go with the Duramax. It is a much more efficient, safer, and longer lasting engine than the 6.2L gasoline engine. Also gasoline engines run much hotter than diesel engines and catch fire much more easily. All the scorch – burn marks you see along the shoulders of interstate highways are mostly from gasoline engines that have caught fire from one thing or another. One of the many reasons that savvy German motorists prefer Diesel engines, and another which has made the Ram-Cummins collaboration so successful. Go Diesel!

      Reply
      1. While I did order the 3.0L for my new AT4 (purely for MPG and great low rpm torque), I can argue your view of it being longer lasting. My current 2010 Silverado with the 6.2L has never seen the shop and has almost 165k hard driven miles on it. We already know that the Duramax will need to see the shop at 100k to have a belt replaced which will cost at least $1,000. Also, it is still a relatively new motor. But I do agree the diesel is quite a bit more efficient.

        Reply
      2. I actually am going with the 3.0L Duramax – the challenge is – no AT4’s picked up at all this week.

Good call on the baby Duramax. You will be pleased.
Stay with the same brand / weight of engine oil throughout the life of the engine. Also change fuel filter per factory schedule. Recommend installing a second aftermarket fuel filter for extra protection, and use Power Service Diesel Kleen Cetane Boost injector cleaner and performance improver endorsed by Cummins. Available at Wal Mart. Part No.3080 from Power Service Products, Inc. of Weatherford, Texas. A+

Good call for you on the baby Duramax. See my comment to MRV861792, about the Duramax care and maintenance. Follow this and you will be pleased.

I have a 1998 GMC Suburban 2500, 6.5 diesel with piston underspray, original guts, heads, block, belt with 535,013 trouble free miles on it. No rust, living in Nevada, and love it.

They built em better back then. No pollution crapola on the engine and much less unnecessary electronics to impress the geeks and skinny jeans crowd.
