General Motors revealed the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 last October, pulling the sheets on a variety of changes and updates for the light-duty pickup. Notably, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra deletes four exterior paint colors offered for the pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited.
The four exterior paint colors deleted with the introduction of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 include (relevant paint codes listed in parentheses):
- Satin Steel Metallic (G9K)
- Dark Sky Metallic (GJI)
- Ebony Twilight Metallic (GB8)
- Brownstone Metallic (GNK)
With the departure of these four exterior paint options, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces three new replacement colors:
- Titanium Rush Metallic (G6M)
- Dynamic Blue Metallic (GLT)
- Desert Sand Metallic (GTL)
As GM Authority recently covered, a variety of optional 22-inch wheel options are currently unavailable to order for the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
Notably, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces two new trim levels to the light-duty Sierra lineup, specifically the GMC Sierra AT4X, an even more-capable off-roader model, and the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, a fully loaded range-topper.
Under the hood, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with four powertrain options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and was recently uprated to produce an additional 24 percent of torque for 430 pound-feet total. Further engine options include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Under the body panels, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

I saw a video of the AT4 in Dynamic Blue. Absolutely gorgeous!
Too bad it seems like the Titanium Rush isn’t being made. Of all the inventory right now not a single AT4 or Denali are in that color. My order has been sitting yet to be accepted since Feb4. Let’s debut a truck in a color nobody can get.
Google search the Titanium Rush Metallic color code. G6M. It’s the same as what Chevy calls Dark Ash Metallic, and what Cadillac calls Galactic Great Metallic. Both Chevy and Cadillac are producing vehicles in those colors. But not GMC. It’s very odd. But yeah, not a single production truck has been made in Titanium Rush Metallic…and I don’t want to change my order color.
That was my point. It’s weird how the GMC is the only one not being produced in that color. I also don’t want to change my order but at this rate the 23s will be out before mine gets picked up.
There’s an SLE for a dealer in Arizona that has been produced and invoiced, in Titanium Rush Metallic. Literally one in the entire country. Interesting.
I love the brownstone Metallic!
I like the Brownstone Too, but hate to see the Dark Sky Metallic Go.
I hated to but changed colors so I could get my truck
All GM colors are dark now, two, three , four versions of black , Dark ash , midnight blues, green that looks black , its all dark, dark, dark so that the paint colors blend in with the cheap unfinished plastic on wheel lip moldings, bumpers, bed steps, running boards, hood plastics , , stupid looking mirrors. ect. GM trucks is the only one of the big three doing this black plastic to extreme.
even the high country interior is black or navy blue now , dark dark dark
I ordered my 2022 in Brownstone and three weeks later got a call the color was discontinued so did a little research and found Metallic Forest was a new color for a different model so changed to that. Two months later my very dark olive green truck was arrived, I love it and haven’t seen another that color.
I ordered a Titanium Rush Metallic Ultimate in mid February and have gotten a build date of May 9. We shall see.

I’m very, very disappointed with GM, they are rendered only dark colors. This is my third High Country, one blue and the last two cherry red. My saleswoman at Nicol Auto in La Sarre Québec told me that GM no longer made Cherry Gray and Red and also no Micro Ship (puse). So I said NO THANK YOU, I don’t want any other color than Cherry Red and I kept my Sylverado Hihg Country 2018, 6.2 L which I like BUT. Since 2011 I’ve been changing my trucks every three years but this time it’s a BIG NO. I looked at you at Ford and Dodge RAM for my Cherry Red color. To bad so sad GM, you will lose a good customer, very very disappointed with you other GM… 🙁 You can look in your system and you will see that I am not a liar… 🙁 I would like to follow up on my comment and I ask you to answer me ASAP… 🙁
jean ,
your right GM only has dark colors and black interiors, it sucks. and to top off the dark color exteriors in all the black unfinished plastics all over the body.
@Jean-Pierre.. good luck getting an answer from the corp. execs… they are to busy cleaning their rose colored glasses so they can see even more roses and pink unicorns everywhere they look. They don’t care about their fan base, if they did, they would bring back the 2 door trucks in higher trim than just a Pro work truck. GM, you better wake up soon and stop telling the CEO that everything is just fine, because it is not.
They should have kept Dark Sky Metallic and not even offered the Desert Sand Metallic – it looks too much like the tan that Toyota used to offer on the base trucks back in the 80’s.
GM heeds some lighter colors , all there dam colors are dark with there black interiors and black ash interior they need all there dark colors cause all there black plastic trim all over the exterior need to blend cause gm trucks look cheap and no wow factor.
I’d like to see the sand color offered again (pewter?) that was very popular 2000-2003 timeframe.
I reserved my 2022 refresh AT4 3.0 Diesel in October, put together the build as soon as they allowed in Nov. or Dec., and it just got accepted a couple weeks ago. It has not been built yet nor has the build been started from my understanding. The wait time on these is outrageous. So most likely if you put one in to be built sometime early in 2022, you will be closer to the back end of the list considering ordering first took place in late October.
ordered my 2022 Ford F-350 King ranch from Brandon Ford in Tampa ( high allocation dealer ) and was told 9 weeks, after 6 days I had a vin number and week 4 in bucked and was built , it sat in Kentucky for 2 weeks waiting on a rail car, 10 days later it was at rail head. 8 1/2 weeks it was here. they gave me updates every step of the way. Maybe GM has a communication problem along with all there other problems
Dealer here. The wait times on these may seem outrageous, unless you’re looking at other vehicles. Yukons/XLs and Hummers are insane. HDs are pretty long. LDs are comparatively quick!
Can’t understand why GM dropped 2 of the nicest colors they ever had in the Dark Sky Metallic and the Satan Steel Metallic plus they don’t every enough different interior color patterns like other truck manufacturers..it sucks and alot of people complain about it.
I have 2 GMC’S in Satin Steel and I love the color, looks great and easy to keep clean. I upgrade every 3 years or so and I do not like nor will I buy any of the new colors. I hope they change this back by next year or I’ll be looking at Fords or something else.
Those are my two favorite colors at least in recent years. I’ve lost deals to customers who wanted a Satin Steel HD truck, but GM hasn’t allowed that. I get so tired of them changing the colors so often, and limiting what you can put on what trims, especially in this age where everything has to be custom ordered anyway.
