General Motors officially debuted the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 in September of 2021, revealing a long list of updates and changes for the light-duty pickup truck. Now, GM Authority has learned GM’s recommended powertrain mix for the 2022 GMC Sierra SLE trim level.
The 2022 GMC Sierra SLE can be had with one of three available powertrain options, starting with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque 1,500 rpm (GM recently uprated that latter torque figure). The 2022 GMC Sierra SLE is also available with the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm.
As such, GM’s recommended powertrain mix for the 2022 GMC Sierra SLE is as follows:
- Turbo 2.7L I4 L3B: 30 percent
- 5.3L V8 L84: 60 percent
- 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax: 10 percent
To note, this recommended powertrain mix is only for dealer inventory, and does not apply to sold orders. We should also mention that other trim levels in the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup are available with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm.
As GM Authority covered previously, the recommended 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 trim level mix for dealers leans most heavily towards the midrange SLT, with the highest mix percentage at 25 percent. The Denali is the second highest recommended at 23 percent, while the Elevation and AT4 are both 16 percent, and the SLE is at 5 percent. A total of eight trim levels are offered.
As for the underlying architecture, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production of the light-duty pickup takes place at the GM Silao Assembly plant in Silao, Mexico, as well as the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
