Here Is GM’s Recommended 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Powertrain Mix

General Motors pulled the sheets on the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 last October, revealing a long list of updates and changes for the pickup nameplate. Now, GM Authority is taking a look at GM’s recommended 2022 GMC Sierra Denali powertrain mix for dealers.

It should be noted that the following trim level mix is specific to inventory orders, or vehicles for in-store inventory, as opposed to sold orders. It should also be noted that the recommended mix is for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali, and not for the new range-topping 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Denali is available withe three powertrain options, including the the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm.

With that covered, GM’s recommended 2022 GMC Sierra Denali powertrain mix is as follows:

  • 5.3L V8 L84: 10 percent
  • 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax: 30 percent
  • 6.2L V8 L87: 60 percent

Elsewhere in the lineup, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is also available with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which produces 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and an uprated 430 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm.

In total, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in eight different trim levels. GM Authority previously covered the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 recommended trim level mix for dealers, but for those readers who may have missed it, the trim with the highest recommended percentage is the Sierra SLT at 25 percent, followed by the Sierra Denali at 23 percent. Check out that article for more information.

As a reminder, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

  1. Well with gas going up to a national average of $4 a gallon and it’s expected that by the end of this week will beat the 08 high, I’m curious how popular these huge trucks/suv will still be. I’m glad I have a sedan.

    1. I suspect the people shelling out $70-$80k won’t be deterred by gas prices. I know that I won’t!

      1. People said that in 08 and guess what happened? They couldn’t dump the suv/truck fast enough for sedans.

      2. Plus trucks in general get way better MPG now than they got back in 2008.

        1. And have bigger gas tanks which means they are more expensive to keep filled up.

          1. Joe Biden Has Raped 13 Kids: This comment is irrelevant, it works out the same whether you put a few gallons in a time or fill it up only once in a while. If it only had a 10 gallon tank you’d have to fill it more often vs a 30 gallon tank that would allow you to fill it up 3 times less. Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other…..

        Newsflash you don’t.
If the high gas prices won’t break you then rising interest rates will.

        1. Why are you so upset that others are able to buy a vehicle? It reflects poorly on you in the end. Change your circumstance or keep quiet.

          1. Wow you brag about a $80k vehicle like that’s expensive lmao. Have better ambitions in life brother.

    2. Usually SUV and Pickup sales would plummet on these gas prices. However there is just too much demand and no where near enough supply. I don’t think current gas prices will horribly impact the current low level of sales.

          1. A lot of sad, envious, and pathetic people in these comments. Sorry that high gas prices don’t change car buying situations for everyone as they do for you. Deal with it.

If only GM was intelligent enough to do that.

  3. Just get the baby duramax in it. My Yukon with duramax does damn good.

  4. Baby Duramax is absolutely the way to go for efficiency performance, and engine life in these tumultuous times. Thank God GM has put this back in Tahoes, Suburbans, etc.

  5. I hope that GM can figure out the starting issue with the 3.0L diesel. That seems to be the only noteworthy issue to come up so far. Once that is resolved, I’m really interested in long term reliability. The engine is a new design with only a couple years at most in the wild. Was looking at the RAM with the equivalent engine, but the RAM’s 3.0L diesel doesn’t have a glowing record. The only other option is a Ford with a boosted gas engine and hybrid setup.

    1. I’ve got two Yukon Denali diesels and I’ve had zero issues out of them. I also have that new Sierra Diesel coming in a couple weeks to drive while my Ultimate gets built. I love that engine and most likely won’t have another engine for a long while. Just my thoughts.

    2. Supposedly there is a fix for the long crank no start with a ECM flash released on 10/21 PIP5823A/B

      Reply
      1. Good to hear that GM is making some remediations for the issue. Last I heard fixes were varied, but if an ECM reflash is the fix, that should be a relatively inexpensive resolution. Time will tell though if this is a 150K mile engine or something more legendary. Fingers crossed.

  6. Both of mine were built within last three months so mine may not have the issue then. They start just fine but I will definitely keep an eye out.

  7. I WOULD BE CURIOUS TO SEE GM’S DEALERS RECOMENDATIONS ON CREW CAB STD BED VS SHORT BED. SEEMS THAT MOST OF THE TRUCKS AROUND ME WITH CREW CABS ARE ALL SHORT BEDS
