The GMC Sierra full-size pickup has received a 2022 Best Resale Value Award from Kelley Blue Book.
KBB determines which vehicles have the best projected resale through its own statistical models, which it says were “built upon millions of transactions,” involving second-hand vehicles. Low-volume vehicles are excluded from award consideration, save for the electric, luxury and sports car categories, as these segments typically have lower volumes than mass-market ones.
The GMC Sierra has the best resale value of any vehicle in the Full Size Pickup Truck – Heavy Duty category. The standard light-duty GMC Sierra was also listed in the top ten vehicles with the best resale value, joining the Chevy Corvette. Other vehicles in the top ten include the Jeep Gladiator, Ford F-Series, Tesla Model X, Ford Maverick, Toyota 4Runner, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra. The overall award for brand resale was given to Toyota, while the company’s Lexus brand took top honors in the luxury category.
KBB says an average 2022 model-year vehicle will only retain about 43 percent of its original value after a five-year ownership period, which means a vehicle that sells for $45,000 new today will only be worth about $19,350 five years down the road. Vehicles included in this list of the top ten best vehicles for resale value, by comparison, will retain around 56 percent of their original price on the used market. U.S. pricing for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $32,895 including destination and freight, while the larger GMC Sierra HD is priced from $39,895 with DFC.
In addition to the GMC Sierra and Sierra HD, the GMC Yukon also received a residual value award from KBB this year, taking top honors in the full-size SUV category. The Chevy Corvette also won the luxury sports car category.
