A GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edtion 1 sold for a significant $286,000 at the Mecum Glendale auction in Arizona over the weekend.
This Hummer EV Edtion 1 was offered with no reserve price, meaning there was no minimum price that the seller required bidding to reach in order for the vehicle to sell. That said, this vehicle probably would have had no problem meeting a pre-set reserve price, as demand for the sold-out Hummer EV is clearly quite high going by this car’s rather absurd $286,000 selling price.
As we noted last week, this GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is one of only a small number of Hummer EV models that have been built at GM’s Factory Zero plant since the vehicle officially entered production late last year. All 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 models come identically equipped with an Interstellar White exterior and a Lunar Horizon white leather interior with bronzed Edition 1 badging. The Edition 1 also comes standard with GM’s hands-free Super Cruise driving assistant and the Extreme Off-Road Package, which adds 18-inch wheels, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, underbody skid plates, frame rail rock sliders and underbody cameras.
Power in the Hummer EV Edition 1 comes from an Ultium Drive tri-motor powertrain producing 1,000 horsepower, which is fed by a ~200 kWh Ultium lithium-ion battery pack. This gives the vehicle the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about three seconds, while range sits at an EPA-certified 329 miles. Prices for this range-topping trim started at $110,295, but they are going for much more than this on the second-hand market. Earlier this month, we found a private listing for a 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 that listed the vehicle for sale at a frankly ridiculous $325,000, so it’s clear electric vehicle fans are willing to shell out big bucks for a Hummer EV.

I think when buying a vehicle patience is the key. Let the fervor calm and then buy.
Remember years ago when people went crazy over (of all things) the PT Cruiser??
My friends Dad paid a premium over MSRP to have one and he put it away and to this day it has low miles and looks new but it’s worth about $4,800.
I think I’d wait till next spring and get one for sticker.
You won’t be paying for sticker bud.
Yep I bought my wife the new PT when it was (order only). I found one dealership in Clearwater Fla who ordered it for MSRP only. It came in about a month later, from Mexico, and she loved it!
I bought a 2003 H2 Hummer when they were first out (order only) at approx $50,000 and my wife couldnt believe what I was paying for it!!! I had a company car so it stayed in the garage most of the time, I kept it 13 yrs as it was, by far, the BEST VEHICLE I EVER OWNED,,,,,,and I’ve owned A LOT. The seats were thick and very comfortable,,,,better than any others!
Having said that, I have a new High Country Silverado 6.2 (gas) and its a great vehicle and runs like a top!
Love those Chevrolets…after Viet Nam the very first car I purchased/owned was a 1967 Camaro,,,$3,200 on the show room floor!!!
See the USA in your Chevrolet !!!
Personally I don’t think this is worth $286k, but there are a lot of people out there who do value being first in line and willing to pay a premium for that status. That aside, often times there’s usually some kind of tie in with a charity where some or all of the money goes to that cause, so in that situation it’s kind of a “win-win” where a charity receives a sizeable donation and the donor gets first-line status. If the emphasis here is on charity, the money might make sense…but I don’t think it would otherwise from an investment perspective ( at least not for this vehicle). Not sure if there was any charity involved with this particular bid
I can smell the plastic through my screen on this thing.
I’m sorry but this just looks cheap. I mean did they even try to make this worth it’s price tag? Bet this thing will be falling apart in less then a year. Gotta mechanic coming
It’s GM so you get what you get so don’t have a fit.
I would’ve paid that… if I won the lottery
My personal dislike of Hummer anything and the truck market in general will shine brightly in my comment here. But I wouldn’t pay $50,000 for that. I just don’t care what the situation is, that’s just stupid to pay that much.
I think my biggest issue is that we have so many people living on the street and trying to survive day to day. Are many of those homeless there on their own accord? Yes. But there are way too many out there who tried hard and just couldn’t do it. Then take a look at the majority of American’s who live a quite modest life, but are still barely able to stay above water. Then you have about 3% of the population with just way too much money to throw away on stupid stuff like this! The income disparity in this country is beyond stupid. Purchases like this just reinforce that.
I suspect it is more like the .3% not the 3%. 3% of 300M people is 9M people. It could even be the .03% which is still a pool of 90K people with money beyond belief. Then you have the names we know. Bloomberg, Musk, Ellison, Buffet, Gates, Brinn, … The .000003 The top 100. All more money than imaginable. The list above could buy most towns. Every single house.
This hummer is well worth the 286k 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺😎😂
👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
I think the guy who posted first was right. Just wait, be patient. This thing (a fad no matter what Mary Biden and Joe Berra says) or the Ford Bronco or even the current housing market. When the rush is over things will come down.
Good buy. I say this solely because I’m guessing that I probably wouldn’t like the buyer based on this purchase decision…let him/her part with some cash to be an almost-first to own an ev hummer, save the planet, feel awesome, etc. The dark side of me hopes the ownership experience leads to mechanical/electrical problems, frustration, and ultimately, regret.
The whole “launch/first edition” fad the carmakers have embraced is tiresome to me. I think these, incl. this hummer, as well as the launch edition Lexus is500 and the 1st edition Lotus Emira are all very cool-looking, but I certainly wouldn’t consider paying a premium to have any of them.
let the rich kids fight over them like every thing there is another bus in 30 mins always 2023,2024 ,2025 to buy besides never buy the first year I like the suv wagon better shorter wheel base
It’s called more money than cents. If you have that much extra money, help your family, or other people. Not waste it!
This article says nothing! I’m a dealer (exotics and diesel trucks) for over 25 years. All this says is what a truck sold for. Doesn’t say anything about who the buyer or seller are. This makes all the difference in the world. At the dealer auctions every day you see the identical car bring thousands more or less based on who the seller and buyer are. I’m not saying they won’t bring stupid money, what I’m saying is this article is no barometer for what this car will bring without knowing who the buyer and seller are. Simple example. If it’s charity seller especially, what the Vehicle brings has nothing to do with the value.
Sam McEachern,
If you’re reading the comments on your article, a friendly piece of advise. If you’re going to report on the car world you need to step up your game. You look young and eager to learn and be one of the best, and you will get there with good work. The auto world is a cruel world, be ready.
