GM Hit With Class Action Lawsuit For Peeling Paint On Chevy And GMC Trucks

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against GM by certain owners of the automaker’s 2015 to 2019 model year full-size truck and SUV models over peeling exterior paint.
Plaintiffs in this class-action suit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, say the exterior paint on affected vehicles is prone to delaminating, peeling, bubbling, flaking and/or blistering, according to Car Complaints. They also allege the paint peels and delaminates without any external or environmental influence, as the paint and clear coat were are not able to bond properly due to their opposing chemical properties.
Plaintiffs say this problem has lessened the second-hand value of affected vehicles and that a repaint will not suffice, as hand-painted vehicles often do not have the same consistent finish as ones painted in the factory by a robot. They also say GM was aware of the paint defects and “failed to provide truthful information,” regarding the paint’s condition to customers. The lawsuit calls for GM to repurchase affected vehicles at full cost, reimburse lessees based on how much they’re paid toward their leases and to recall all vehicles with defective paint.
Interestingly, the class action complaint itself contains a reference to an online complaint that was submitted to CarComplaints.com by the owner of a 2015 model year Chevy Tahoe. This individual says the topcoat on the hood and roof of their Tahoe “started to fade/grey and crack on the black undercoat,” after three years of ownership. The GM dealership they took the vehicle to quoted them $2,300 to have the hood repainted. This person says they expected the paint to “last well into a decade,” and that this happened despite the fact they wash their vehicle weekly and get it detailed professionally every six months.
The following GM vehicles are involved in the suit:
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Suburban
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado
- 2015-2019 GMC Yukon
- 2015-2019 GMC Yukon XL
- 2015-2019 GMC Sierra
This class-action lawsuit was filed by Florida GM customers Tom Riley, Heather Shrum and Gary Ambrose, along with Tennessee GM customer Sherry Kilburn. We’ll provide more information on the suit as it becomes available.

I am having an issue with my 2021 Blazer with the paint bubbling and then pealing. GM and the dealer came back and told me it was an environmental problem and wasn’t covered and I would have to fix it myself. Oh and did I mention I’m leasing it and stated having the issue when I had it just a little over a year. Just love they won’t stand by their products and make it right by fixing it. So it doesn’t surprise me they have a law suit against them.
Yeah my 2017 suburban looks amazing all around till you get to the hood it if if almost looks like it was poorly prepped before pair and clear was added
Is there a way we can know what is going on with this case? If they will do a recall for all affected vehicles. I am also expressing chipping on bumper peeling on hood. GM said there is no recall for it and it would be an out of pocket expense. Is there a way to join the lawsuit

So I have a 2015 work truck and a 2016 ltz double cab both chevy 2500 has 4×4 8’beds. The 2015 has paint peeling off everytime we wash it. The 2016 has paint bubbling up towards the bottom of vehicle and inside doors where u step in to the truck…. such bs these are both used for our business and this just passes me off. In fact my 2015 had new torque converter installed in it b4 30,000 miles. Then just had my 2016 torque converter go out at 90,000 so I went ahead and put a brand new entire transmission in it definitely is bs that chevy doesnt stand by there products.
I want in on this. 2016 Silverado pearl white peeling on hood and around windows. How do we go about getting in contact with the attorneys over this suit?
My 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab started bubbling at 5-1/2 years and is now peeling off. I called GM several times but got no help. Very dissatisfied
I have a 2010 Chevy express van my paint is peeling in big sections. It started in the front of the van,I have a lot of grey primer showing. It also has peeled on the passenger side at the sliding door. My van looks like hell. I paid a lot of money for this van. GM must be held liable for these shotty paint jobs.Something sure went wrong with either the primer or the paint or their process in painting these vehicles.we all need to be compensated
Mine did the same thing. I wrote numerous letters to GM president, vice president, dealership and 7-on your side (local tv station). After 3 months of non stop letters, the dealership called and set up appointment to fix it for no cost. This was two years ago, now I just noticed the other side by the window is doing the same thing. I will be sending out the letters again!!! Don’t give up, they need to fix this issue with no charge to the buyer.
My 2017 Yukon in black is fading bad how can I get in on the lawsuit?

I have it scheduled to be painted 1/19/2023 and would like more information before I spend 3k to have the hood and roof redone.
