GM Announces 2021 Supplier Of The Year Award Winners

General Motors announced the winners of its 2021 Supplier of the Year Awards during a ceremony held in Phoenix, Arizona this week.

The GM Supplier of the Year awards are an annual recognition of the top-performing supplier partners that GM works with. This year’s recipients of the Supplier of the Year awards, now in its 30th year, include 134 suppliers from 16 different countries. Recipients were selected based on performance criteria in the categories of Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services, Customer Care and Aftersales and Logistics.

Shilpan Amin, GM’s recently appointed vice president for Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, said this year’s Supplier of the Year Award recipients are especially deserving, as they helped the automaker work through the part constraints it experienced over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and semiconductor chip shortage.

“This year’s Supplier of the Year event was special not only because it’s the 30th anniversary of the program, but because it provided us with the opportunity to recognize our suppliers for persevering through one of the most challenging years the industry has ever faced,” Amid said in a prepared statement. “These top suppliers showed resilience and reinforced their commitment to pursuing sustainability and innovation. Through our strong relationships and collaboration, GM and our suppliers are poised to build a brighter future for generations to come.”

Some of the more well-known companies that received a GM Supplier of the Year award this year include tire supplier Michelin, Axalta Coatings, Lear Corporation, Linamar, Magna, Eaton, Penske Logistics and Hyundai’s Mobis subsidiary, among more.

  1. LG Chem? Seriously?

  2. Shouldn’t China be a supplier of the year winner? By looking at the list they supplied about ninety percent of the labor!

  3. Just public sucking up. The Michelin tires on my 2019 Equinox lasted all of 29500 miles and we’re bald. The rears were worse than the fronts so not because it’s fwd. The dealer says all factory Michelin tires on these SUVs are this way. Never anymore Michelin tires for me. I’ll get the Coopers.

    1. Hey Dave,
I had problems with my Michelin tires too, only they started cracking on the sidewall from sun(?) exposure. Replaced them with Coopers also.

    2. Not Michelin’s fault. The tires were custom made to GM’s specs (TPC), just like almost all factory tires are. Like all automakers building mass-market cars, GM wanted tires that prioritized fuel economy and low noise, since the cars get tested to regulations with those tires. Customer satisfaction also dictates low noise and good ride on a new car. As a result of these priorities, treadwear suffers.

  4. Is self combusting batteries a segment of it’s own or did they invent one for LG?

  5. So gm doesn’t make anything. They just assemble.
