Ford F-150 Lightning Range Reaches 320 Miles

General Motors has a few all-electric pickups in its portfolio, including the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado EV, but The General isn’t without its rivals. Ford, for example, is set to launch the new F-150 Lightning, and now, the Blue Oval brand has released the official EPA-estimated driving range for all F-150 Lightning models.

The Ford F-150 Lightning models with the greatest range-per-charge include the F-150 Lightning Pro Extended Range (Fleet only), F-150 Lightning XLT Extended Range, and F-150 Lightning Lariat Extended Range, all of which are rated 320 miles of range. All other models are rated 230 miles of range, with the exception of the F-150 Lightning Platinum, which is rated at 300 miles of range.

To note, Extended Range models are equipped with the extended range battery, which is required for that maximum range-per-charge rating of 320 miles.

Check out the table below for a more complete breakdown of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EPA Driving Range estimates:

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EPA Driving Range
F-150 Lightning Pro Standard Range 230 miles
F-150 Lightning Pro Extended Range (Fleet only) 320 miles
F-150 Lightning XLT Standard Range 230 miles
F-150 Lightning XLT Extended Range 320 miles
F-150 Lightning Lariat Standard Range 230 miles
F-150 Lightning Lariat Extended Range 320 miles
F-150 Lightning Platinum 300 miles

By comparison, both the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 and Chevy Silverado EV outrange all 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning models listed here, with the Hummer EV Edition 1 rated at 329 miles, and the Chevy Silverado EV range claimed at more than 400 miles with the largest battery pack.

The GMC Hummer EV has already launched, and in fact, some examples have been listed for sale by flippers looking to turn a quick profit. GM is ramping up production of the new Hummer to meet higher-than-expected demand, with GM currently holding roughly 59,000 preorders for the all-electric off-roader.

Meanwhile, General Motors unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV earlier this year at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, showing off both the well-equipped RST First Edition and the fleet-oriented WT trim level. Deliveries are expected to ramp up in the fall of 2023.

      1. I don’t hate the Silverado EV I just think the Lightning looks better, and you’re right the design is way more familiar. If I was going to get an EV truck right now I would choose the lightning.

  2. With China and Russia in control of the metals needed for batteries expect to pay a lot more for EVs.

    1. Correctomundo ! And I’m glad you mentioned “metals” since it’s not just Lithium ( pricing controlled by the Chinese Communists) but NICKEL too that is often sourced from RasPutin’s Russia.

  3. Once Lightning moves to a dedicated EV platform in 2024/25 the range will bump up to that of Silverado EV

  4. I wonder what the range is with a fully loaded truck bed or when towing an equipment trailer.

    1. It’s work:energy consumption same as a gas or diesel. A battery and electric motors are more energy efficient but has less available energy storage than a gas tank

    2. About 40 miles.

    3. Half

    4. VBery good point. Never mentioned is the state of Charge (SOC) vs. the discharge rate. Not that much diferent than gas mileage really, if you drive it more aggressively you get less miles. Better mileage on a flat road vs. a hillytyerrain etc. There has to be astandard that theyu all have to test their platforms. Surely ther is some one out there that can clarify?

    5. So you too have noticed there is carefully no mention made of that ! It’s what….only $105,000 starting MSRP for the GM EV vehicle ?

  5. Cut the mileage in half, maybe more in cold weather with electric heater.

    1. What kind of heater can you have in an electric car except for Electric? Coal fired?

  6. Little birdie told me SilvErado will have extended range truck with 600 miles. Full charge in 10 minutes with 110V, big breakthrough coming! Battery uses aluminum instead of nickel or cobalt! Cuts production costs by 2/3!

    3. Right now it is impossible. A full charge like that will cook the batteries, Fast charge generates heat. A ten minute charge however may get 20 or 30
      miles.

    4. I’ll believe it when I see it!
Your dreaming if you think the cost will go down.

  8. During the silverado virtual tour yesterday the host could NOT confirm the Chevy trucks all carry the 400 mile battery pack and as suspected will be options on them. Some think because of the wording to date both work and others will come with 400…the wording seems to be AVAILABLE and we know that means options and more costs.

  9. It’s all lies just like the government it’s not going 400 miles you’ll be lucky to get 200 don’t waste your money

  10. Maybe downhill, but trucks are made for working and carrying heavy loads and hauling trailers. Imagine going on a trip waiting in line for charging station to open up and the waiting a couple hrs to charge. Fast charging lowers battery life. Expect to pay $ 20000 for a battery replacement. I’m not convinced yet.

  11. I’ll grant that the 400 mile range Silverado with be somewhat of a power piggy…. But it will certainly sell out – what with $5 / gallon gasoline coming to a gas station near you soon enough… If Biden plays true to form – expect $10 / gallon….

Gasoline prices in Germany have basically doubled (to $8.40 US funds equivalent per US gallon). Now the “Green Party” there has stated that “COAL IS THE NEW GREEN POWER” – hahahahaha! Too Bad in NY State they’ve banned all the existing coal plants and now to be ‘with the IN crowd” they’ll have to turn the few that haven’t been demolished back on.

I used to pay about 1/3 to 1/2 to refuel my ev’s compared to $2/gallon Gasoline… Its now about 1/6th the cost….. Wouldn’t surprise me if it becomes 1/10th before its over….

Since these huge trucks use plenty of fuel (I believe the 400 mile Silverado/Avalanche EV has a 247 KWH battery), this cost savings will help pay for the truck.

I’m sure people will complain about the electric bill, but then they never consider what the alternative GASOLINE bill would be.

    1. If electric vehicles become a large part of the vehicle population expect a per mile tax to replace the gas tax you are avoiding by driving an electric car

      Reply
  12. cliff hit the nail on the head. As gas useage and fuel tax diminishes the government will have to find a new source of revenue. Some kind of TAX will be levied. Not to mention when we are all on “the grid” and only have one supplier of electricity for house and charger -you think the price per jolt won’t go up. WAY UP!
