In mid-January, General Motors officially launched the 2022 Chevy Tahoe in South Korea, marking the first time in history that Chevrolet‘s iconic full-size SUV has been introduced and marketed in the Asian country. The unprecedented and imminent arrival of the Chevy Tahoe strengthens the brand’s utility vehicle portfolio while becoming its new flagship SUV in the South Korean market.
The automaker has just announced that the first deliveries of the newly launched 2022 Chevy Tahoe in South Korea will be completed in April, about three months after the launch event and start of local sales. With the introduction of the Tahoe, Chevrolet becomes the first brand in the country to offer a portfolio of crossovers and SUVs ranging from small to extra-large segments.
“The Chevrolet Tahoe, with its unmatched presence is the flagship SUV model of the Chevrolet brand,” said President and CEO at GM Korea, Kaher Kazem, in an official press release. “The Tahoe complements the already extensive lineup of SUVs from Chevrolet and will offer our Korean customers more choice, seeking the ultimate presence and capability of an SUV to further expand their lifestyles and experiences,” he added.
Notably, the Chevy Tahoe leads the brand’s growing lineup of utility vehicles in South Korea, which this year will grow from three to five models with the launch of the flagship SUV and the introduction of the refreshed Chevy Equinox. In total, the Chevrolet utility vehicle range in that market will consist of the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Traverse and Tahoe. In 2023, it will also include an upcoming crossover destined to be manufactured at the GM Changwon plant.
As we previously reported, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is offered in the South Korean market in a unique and exclusive configuration based on the High Country trim level. Thus, the Tahoe for Korea is a fully equipped model with second-row captain’s chairs for a capacity of seven passengers. Additionally, it is available with a special appearance package called Dark Knight with black logos and other minor tweaks.
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe will officially begin arriving next month at Chevrolet’s 400-store dealer network in South Korea, the second-largest after the widely dominant Hyundai-Kia group’s network. Although it will be a low-volume sales vehicle, the Chevy Tahoe’s primary goal in Korea is to create a halo effect that increases the appeal of local-built crossovers.
