In October last year, General Motors opened the all-new Ultium Center factory in the city of Shanghai to support the production of all-electric vehicles based on the Ultium architecture in China. Although only the production of battery packs and electric propulsion systems at the facility was officially announced, the new Ultium Center will also manufacture the Cadillac Lyriq units for the Asian country.
SAIC-GM, the automaker’s main joint venture in China, recently revealed that the new Cadillac Lyriq is not only the first model based on Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor technology to arrive in the Asian country, but it will also be the first vehicle built at the all-new Ultium Center factory. As such, the so-called “super factory” is responsible for supplying Cadillac‘s electric crossover units to the world’s largest automotive market.
Until now, it was assumed that the new Cadillac Lyriq for the Chinese market would be manufactured at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant that SAIC-GM operates in the same locality. The reason is that, in addition to being the manufacturing center for all current models of the luxury brand in China, the first pre-production units for testing the Lyriq in the country were assembled at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant before the inauguration of the Ultium Center.
Notably, production of the Cadillac Lyriq at the all-new Ultium Center factory cements the crossover’s pioneering role in GM’s rollout of Ultium-powered vehicles in China. The Lyriq is the most revolutionary model in the modern history of the American brand and a key element in consolidating Cadillac’s image in the Asian country, which today has the largest electric vehicle market and the greatest growth potential.
In addition to being the first fully electric vehicle in the history of the century-old brand, the Cadillac Lyriq is a global model that introduces the next-generation design language and the latest evolution of Cadillac’s corporate image. Additionally, it also launches a new direct sales model for the luxury brand in China through the establishment of the all-new Cadillac IQ Store network, which already has more than 20 stores throughout the country.
As the executive vice president of GM and president of GM China, Julian Blissett, has just told local media, the new Cadillac Lyriq will begin its official marketing in the Chinese market during the third quarter of the year. As such, serial production of the crossover at the Ultium Center factory is due to begin in the middle of this year in order to support its launch. The Lyriq was officially presented in China on November 17th, 2021.

Great, the Chinamen can steal all the technology for it. Smart move gm!
Grow a brain.
All you guys whining about a car being made by an American company in China probably shop at Walmart where close to everything is made in China. Stop it!
But yet you are whining about them Stop it!
I’ve only seen pictures of the Lyriq in that pewter gray color. It looks surprisingly really good in powder blue in that second-to-last pic.
Based on the design language I didn’t think lighter pastels like that would work, but it looks quite nice.
Trump and Epstein were not good friends. Perhaps you’re getting Trump mixed up with Clinton. He visited Epstein hundreds maybe thousands of times. It was probably the Clintons who had him killed.
Now, stop you’re bs and talk cars.
Ikr?
Another great move by gm. The more production moves to china means the cheaper it gets here.
Yea, but most Americans would rather cars get built here so they can complain about how expensive cars have gotten
This is not true at all!!!!
Why do you make comments about stuff that makes zero sense? The LYRIQ will be priced whatever regardless what GM have going on in China.
First off it lowers the cost it’s cheaper there. Second don’t say anything to me when you think micro fiber should be placed on Cadillac mirrors.
What you are saying is still not true. Don’t worry, I don’t want to associate or talk to anyone who does not know the difference between “your” and “you’re”.
If that’s the case then why are you talking in the first place? You felt the need to write a comment to let me know you didn’t wanna talk to me? Lmao god you really are the stupidest person on here.
Well, at least this so-called stupidest person knows the difference of “your” and “you’re”. Are you doing the same thing and replying back also?
You are the biggest joke on here and don’t know anything about the auto industry and how the auto industry work. No one on here can take anything you say seriously but people who behave and act like an idiot like you.
You said yesterday you don’t wanna associate with someone who doesn’t know the difference but here you are still talking lmao.
Whatever you say, Rerun. As always, you are trippin’.
It’s not what I say. You claimed you were done and wouldn’t associate with someone who doesn’t know the difference between your and you’re but you are still here talking. You aren’t claiming someone besides you is responding to me now are you? Ahh I get it you need the last word right?
I love hearing people say you don’t know anything about this or that acting like they are experts.
Wrong! They will cost the same as US made version!
CH-ina Co rules the world!
The day that GM imports a car I want and not made here or at least made in a true allied country ……then just toss that model as a choice out the window. In the end profits is all that matters.
Will never purchase a car mfg in communist China. Give them the technology and soon y’all will be kneeling before their President/dictator. We never learn.
China will eat our lunch. Let’s Go Brandon.
I don’t want a electric car period 👎👎👎
Just remember what Joey said. Build back better buy American. How could you approve this Mary. Someday all American factories will be nationalized in China.
Are the US Lyriqs built in China too?
US Lyriqs are built in Spring Hill Tennessee
Springhill Tennessee
Remember how poorly the Cadillac ELR sold? They will be lucky to sell 10,000 Lyrids a year. Even that number seems a bit on the high side.
The initial orders sold out, there’s the 10k
Did GM get payment?
I would not consider a GM now knowing what is going on. Build it in the US or nothing.
Also the front end of the vehicle had gotten to complicated, my eye dances all around all over the place. It’s complexity is not appealing. You have over worked the design GM.
Because everyone knows you go to China to have a well made reliable product using only the best materials, most skilled craftsmen and highest workmanship…
Build in USA with US made parts and workers. Otherwise forget it.
America First.
China’s plan is to slit out throats in the future. Even though we have enriched them, they are using thier wealth to build military to slit out throats. Wise up greedy GM or go broke again.
Joe, you are a JOE that gets it!!!!!
Too bad that touchhole has the same name. The fact is no company goes to China for a better made product. I go to great lengths to buy products made elsewhere. And it can be difficult and expensive. Take a craftsman screwdriver set. Used to be made in Ohio I think by western forge. Now they are sneaky and unmarked on the handle, says China in small script on the box. That’s fine I have 3 tool chests full of USA tools. Point being, it’s a cheaper made tool in every way, yet we still pay a USA price, not only that the workers in the mill aren’t making a decent wage either. It’s bad all the way. Some people don’t care where what they buy comes from. That’s the first place I look. It’s embarrassing that America’s luxury brand is making cars in bargain basement country.
Prossibly slave labor.
I ordered a Lyriq Split Window Coupe. They only make them the first year.
Why doesn’t GM management masterminds move and live in china? china is GM’s short term thinking future.
