Last week, GM Authority reported that General Motors has established a new imported vehicle business in China with which it plans to market its most iconic models from the United States in the Asian country. In addition to the new GMC Hummer EV already unveiled at the 2021 China International Import Expo, we now know that the automaker will also import the all-new Chevy Silverado EV to the world’s largest auto market.
Sources familiar with the matter report that the all-new Chevy Silverado EV will be one of the first vehicles that GM will import from the United States to China, once the company completes all the fundamentals of the marketing strategy for its new imported vehicle business in the Asian country. As such, there are still no official dates for the start and the arrival of imported vehicles in the Chinese market.
Notably, the upcoming introduction of the all-new Chevy Silverado EV in China will mark the first time the automaker has officially marketed the iconic nameplate in that country. About five years ago, GM even sold a few units of Chevrolet’s third-generation full-size pickup through a parallel import program with Chinese dealers that was canceled soon thereafter.
As we previously reported, the product portfolio of GM’s new imported vehicle business in China will be made up of models typical of the U.S. market, with an emphasis on fully electric propulsion. In this regard, the all-new Chevy Silverado EV is a natural fit as the first zero-emission variant of the company’s best-selling vehicle in North America and around the world.
In particular, the all-new Chevy Silverado EV’s dedicated BEV platform, with the 24-module Ultium battery pack as a critical part of the structure, along with the Ultium Drive powertrain, Â will allow the Silverado nameplate to expand to new international markets. As such, the electric drive technology not only revolutionizes Silverado’s history, it makes it a global vehicle for the first time.
The all-new Chevy Silverado EV made its world debut on January 5th during the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show. The truck, manufactured at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan, could begin to be imported into the Chinese market during the first half of 2024, after the introduction of all versions in North America is completed. The Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in a Crew Cab body style and has an estimated maximum driving range of more than 400 miles.

So, is gm going to sell Teslas in China then? Those are the only typical electric cars here.
Yes, I believe they are! The proper term is “Export” to China.
Great, the Chinamen will steal all the technology from this truck.
@Nate
Look for the Tahoe/Escalade BEV’s to be sold there in a couple of years as well.
Are you suggesting those will be anywhere near as popular as a Tesla model?
GM is out of Russia but they’re “all in” China.
China is the world’s largest auto market. How can GM not be in there?
It’s great that they can export to China but can’t supply vehicles in the USA
There are no cars or trucks new on the car lots and they want you to get on the list
To reserve one Dealers if they get a vehicle want to price them over MSRP
(Market price).
Edward M Pate – GM is there for greed. I get that they are in business to make money, but you can get it from other places, and focus on selling more here. China is the biggest enemy to the US. Their government has concentration camps for the Uyghurs and they harvest organs. They constantly steal our technology and will eventually use it against us. They are trying to kill the petro dollar by making a deal with the Saudi’s to purchase oil with the Yuan. China is the true enemy of this country, not Russia and every US corporation needs to pull out until they get rid of communism. But they won’t. Hell, GM can produce military vehicles for them as well, just as long as the stock goes up 1/4%.
Maybe President XI Jinping will ask Mary to be a part of the China Homeland Security Advisory Panel?
At first I thought I read the title say imported from China at which time I thought to myself OH HELL NO…keep it…but export away to China…after you make enough for us!!!!!
Since gm suspended operations in Russia after Russia invaded Ukraine will they suspend operations in China when they invade Taiwan?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They would still do business with China if they invaded Hawaii.
They’ll suspend operations in a situation like that. Completely.
Because they’ll go bankrupt after the CCP seizes all their Chinese assets.
Very good reasons how gm, all corporations, will regret selling into China when the sh-t starts to go sideways with Taiwan. This is will end up a 2 way fight between USA and China over this country since Taiwan is biggest tech manufacturing country that USA depends on for just about all electronics sold in USA. No chips and circuit boards will bring the USA down to 1 knee. Corporations dealing with China will lose investments and collateral material not being shipped that will effect supply chain that is already in the dumps in the last 14 months. IMO, its a risk for greed to make shareholders happy.
How sick. They tried to kill us, and we are letting them build our Silverado’s? Shame on GM!
nah, it’s the other way, fam, much worse.
MADE IN USA vehicles being sold to China… as if we get enough inventory as is… smh
If China sides with the freekin’ Russians, GM CANNOT do Business with them in any form! That should be a National law.
Mexico is passing up a great opportunity! If they could get rid of the drug operations, we could build them into a new China. Think about it, cheap labor, no long shipping issues and all the taco’s we can eat!
Go Mexico!
Why are we doing anything with China..they are helping Russia and brought over the virus..refuse to buy any Chinese
YES, MAKE IT IN NORTH AMERICA AND SELL TO THE WORLD
