Production of the 2023 GMC Sierra HD heavy-duty pickup is set to ramp up on July 18th, 2022, GM Authority has learned. Order books for the 2023 Sierra HD will open May 5th, 2022.
As a reminder, the GMC Sierra HD is built at the GM Flint production facility in Flint, Michigan. Of course, it also bears mentioning that these dates are very much subject to change, especially when considering the fluid and sensitive nature of the current operating environment.
Looking ahead, the 2023 GMC Sierra HD will proceed a model refresh set to launch for the 2024 model year, rather than the 2023 model year as was originally believed. The delay is the result of continuing setbacks stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has pushed back the timetable for several vehicle programs by a year, including the vehicle refresh for GM’s heavy-duty pickup models.
With that in mind, the 2023 GMC Sierra HD will introduce only minor changes prior to more impactful changes slated to arrive for the subsequent 2024 model year.
At present, the current GMC Sierra HD is in high demand and is selling well, with Sierra HD sales up 12.5 percent to 54,652 units during the 2021 calendar year, as compared to the 48,582 units sold during the 2020 model year.

Under the body panels, the Sierra HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform.

What improvements are being made to the duramax far as final numbers on hp torque towing capacity also will they increase the tank size to compete with dodges and any hint of price ranges we should be looking at soon
GM cant even build 2022’s right now and tell there customers when they will be receiving them much less worrying about a 2023. Im sure the bean counters are planning some way to put some more cheap black plastic all over the exterior of the truck more than they have now. maybe they will go from two versions of black interior to four versions of black interior , price range , well theres been three price increases in last 3 months , bend over boys your gonna get your new plastic toy truck with the under powered duramax , fake branded allison transmission , a tail gate that hit the hitch receiver, stupid door mount mirrors , and thin seats and the new car like dash like your wifes SUV has very soon.
Mickey, how thin are the seats?
Franklin , ask your wife about the thin seats, she knows!
Mickey, not trying to be smart . How thin are the seats.?
My 3/4 ton duramax tows 25k easily and never had the transmission hotter than 190 even in the hill country. Troll.
HEY THERE JOE BLO YOU WISHED YOUR 2500 PULLED 25K EASILY AND THATS OVER LOADING IN BY 8 -9 K POUNDS . THE RAMS AISIN PULLS AT 165 – 168 DEGREES ALL SUMMER DAY LONG. MY SPORT CHASSIS DD13 ALLISON 4000 RUNS 165 ALSO. THE EXTRA HEAT IN YOUR FAKE BRANDED ALLISON COOKS THE FLUID.
RAMS are garbage I thought this was common knowledge??
Why is the 6.6L Gas engine only paired with a 6 speed transmission? Ford pairs their gas engines with an 8 speed. Isn’t a 6 speed somewhat antiquated? Is there an engineering reason for this decision or is this a cost/model differentiation decision to make the diesel more appealing with its 10 speed? Any real explanations fully appreciated. I don’t think I’d sufficiently work a diesel to keep it running well. Also disappointed with the year’s design changes to 2024. My 2016 1500 Silverado with a 5.3 could use an upgrade to HD as I switch from towing boats for fishing to agroforestry equipment.
Any word on 2023 Silverado. In process of buying new, but may hold off to receive 2023z
any luck ? looking to buy a 2023 too.
Seriously… I passed on a 2022 HD that I ordered (which had all its chips in it) because I heard the 2023 will have a more comfortable interior and possibly a 10sp behind the gas engine. Now the 2023 will have minor changes? I’m guessing no 10sp and no interior. I’m also hearing they will be built with deleted options due to chip shortage. I know the chip shortage is industry wide but come on GM get it together. I have to start looking at other manufacturers. This is unacceptable how many more years are they going to push back the updated HDs?
I ordered a 2022 HD Denali 3500 fully loaded in August 2021. The truck has not been built yet and delivery is unknown. Is it better to cancel the 2022 order and order the new 2023. I think delivery as it stands might be close to the same. The 2023 new orders start May 5th with production beginning July 18th.
If your main concern is getting it faster I’d wait for the 22 you ordered. It doesn’t look like the 23 is going to be any different from the 22s so it’s the same truck that’s been sitting in a lot waiting on chips. They’re just going to slap a door sticker on the 22s and call it a 23 after July 18th.
Thank that is good information to know.
Well I also passed on the 2022 hd for another reason. I ordered it as soon as the order books opened as a 22. That was around the end of May. I got a call saying it might be in around the end of 2021 or early 2022 about 8 months later. When I stopped in with my paperwork which said 2022 they showed me the truck and it was a 2021. Then the price had gone up as well. I passed on it because I was pretty sure it was one of the 2021s sitting in a lot for over a year waiting on chips. I prefer GMC trucks but they are pushing me to another brand.
My 2022 arrived at the dealer on 05-26-2022 and is having the load levelers installed. I will have it delivered to me sometime next week. Of course it had to be delivered to the dealer just before a 3 day weekend. But after only 9 month and one e-mail to the CEO of General Motors, it is only a week away.
I think waiting to update the screen, moonroof and interior leather on Denali Ultimate like the half tons until 2024 is a huge mistake!
They are just giving more biz to Fords King Ranch
I worked to GM for 30 years, never bought anything else, but GM engineers are so far behind the other trucks I am seriously considering a Ford! Do sick of them half way doing everything and using cheap materials! So sick of them pushing back the “improvements” considering that they will actually be improvements! Sick of them putting junk on the trucks nobody wants are uses and not giving us what a truck owner needs! A split rear end or tranny would be nice so we could get some fuel mileage when not towing! Who needs 1000 lb of torque to run to Lowes to pick up some screws?
