2022 GMC Yukon Rear-Seat Media System No Longer Available

The 2022 GMC Yukon is the second model year of the latest fifth-generation SUV nameplate, introducing only a handful of small changes compared to the initial 2021 model year. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that the 2022 GMC Yukon’s Rear-Seat Media System is no longer available to order.

The Rear-Seat Media System for the 2022 GMC Yukon is tagged with RPO code UW9, and will be unavailable to order for the remainder of the model year. It’s unclear at this time what is behind the availability issues for the system.

As for the specific equipment, the Rear-Seat Media System features dual rear seat-mounted 12.6-inch diagonal color-touch LCD HD screens, as well as Wi-Fi wireless projection capability, two Bluetooth headphones with a pair of HDMI ports placed on the back of the center console.

The Rear-Seat Media System was priced at $1,995, and was previously offered as an optional extra for 2022 GMC Yukon SLE, AT4 and Denali trim levels. The system was not available on SLE trims.

The Rear-Seat Media System was also included with the AT4 Premium Plus Package (RPO code PEH) and the AT4 Premium Package (RPO code RGM). What’s more, the Rear-Seat Media System was included with the Denali Ultimate Package (RPO code PEC), however, the Denali Ultimate Package is no longer available to order, replaced with the Denali Reserve Package.

Per GM Authority’s previous coverage, GM made a few changes to the Rear Seat Media System with the introduction of the 2022 model year SUVs, including the deletion of the Navigation feature. Additionally, GM changed the USB-C ports to only provide charging, whereas previously the ports could be used as a wired connection for music streaming. The Miracast screen mirroring feature was also deleted.

As a reminder, the 2022 GMC Yukon is available with three engine options, including the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Each engine connects to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, while rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are both available.

Under the skin, the 2022 GMC Yukon rides on the GM T1 platform. Production of the SUV takes place at GM Arlington plant in Arlington, Texas.

  8. We bought a 22 AT4 in November. This is really doing everyone a favor. The 2022 rear seat media is a waste of money if you have younger kids using the screen. There are no ‘wireless’ connections and can only mirror a phone with the correct adapters. With an Android device this is pretty easy with a usb-c to HDMI connector, but for Apple, the lightening to HDMI connector (the one made by Apple!) is finicky at best. Very disappointed with the setup and hope that GM updates these screens to allow for Apps like Netflix, Disney+, etc. Right now a Hulu option shows up (sometimes) but does nothing when you click on it! Let’s get this going on the right direction GM!!

    1. That is interesting. We have 2021 Denali Xl and the rear seat media is amazing. My wife can use both screens attached to her computer for a 3 screen effect. We connect our iPads and iPhones and use the 4g Wi-Fi to watch movies and the rear navigation function is really great because you can plot a destination and send it up to the front screen to use in navigation.
I don’t understand why they take something that works pretty good and screw it up.

  9. Just called and canceled my order. The Air Ride is gone as well. Straight deal breaker for me. The base gloss black wheel is gone too. I appreciate my dealer for being straight up with me. At this point Arlington is just throwing on whatever parts that they have. Taking my money back to Ford or probably just keeping my 2020 Denali. I would consider a Wagoneer but I personally know someone who’s screens (dash and rear media) went out the first week of ownership!!!!

  10. This is getting terrible. Stop building vehicles if you cannot fully build them! Cutting options that people purposely order does nothing but put a bad taste in their mouth. I ordered a 22 Denali ultimate, black edition Duramax back in July of 2022. Still no word on it coming. Meanwhile all I see is options getting cut, or dropped completely, like the black edition package. The Duramax was offline for a few months as well. This is seriously making me consider a refund of my deposit and looking elsewhere. It’s the little things, the details, that really make a difference when you custom order. That’s why vehicles come with options – so you can customize the vehicle and get what you want. I have been frustrated, but I understood it may mean delays. But this is getting out of hand. Especially with a high end $90k vehicle! Halt production of the top trims, get the fricken parts you need, then resume production. That would at least comfort me that I’m getting quality. Scabbing together parts and cutting options does nothing but really irritate me and dilute my trust and brand loyalty. When you spend this much money you’d expect to get what you want and be treated well. If I wanted less options, I would have ordered an SLT or an LT Tahoe!

  11. This is something I just came across that I have not read yet on GM Authority.
It is March 3, and an ad just came on my computer screen about the 2022 Chev Traverse.
I clicked on to BUILD AND PRICE.
Now if you want a colour other than Silver Metallic, or White you pay extra.
YES – a 2022 Chev Traverse ( Build and Price) if you want BLACK you pay extra.
I am sharing this update for you.

Next the primer will be free (maybe), but you will have to pay for any additional paint.
