2022 GMC Sierra Gets Heated Steering Wheel Back

The 2022 GMC Sierra, including the 2022 GMC Sierra HD and refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, are once again available with the heated steering wheel feature, GM Authority has learned.

According to GM Authority sources, all units of the 2022 GMC Sierra that would normally be equipped with a heated steering wheel will once again include the feature, as of March 28th production.

The heated steering wheel feature is tagged with RPO code KI3, and is typically equipped as standard on 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels. A heated steering wheel is not available for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro. Meanwhile, for GMC Sierra HD models, the heated steering wheel feature is equipped as standard for SLT, AT4, and Denali trims, and offered as optional for SLE trims. The feature is not available for the 2022 GMC Sierra HD Pro.

Previously, heated steering wheels were under constraint since production start for the refreshed GMC Sierra 1500, and under constraint between December 6th, 2021 and March 27th, 2022 for GMC Sierra HD models.

Although the heated steering wheel feature is no longer under constraint for the 2022 GMC Sierra, several other comfort features continue to face limited availability for both GMC pickup models. The limited availability of these features is the result of the ongoing global microchip shortage. Impacted features include Heated Front Seats, Ventilated Front Seats, Heated Outboard Rear Seats, Rear Park Assist, and Front and Rear Park Assist. As a reminder, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with four engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Under the body panels is the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and GM Silao Assembly plant in Mexico.

As for the 2022 GMC Sierra HD, available powerplants include the atmospheric 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine and 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax. The Sierra HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Flint Assembly Plant in Michigan.

  1. Has anyone heard of there being a legitimate delay for trucks being made with the Titanium Rush Metallic? I see trucks being delivered all over the place and none with that colour. Still waiting on updates for my AT4 ordered on Valentines Day.

    1. There is 1 truck built with that color according to their site. Its a Denali and “in Transit” to SELLERS BUICK GMC.

  2. After checking GMC inventory page, I dont see the Denali or Ultimate being build with “Super-Cruise”. It states “Available Later”. My order( Denali with the reserve supercruise package- cayenne red tintcoat)was placed Feb 26th. Dealer told me on March 9th that “truck has been picked up to be built” and no changes were able to be made at that point. There were no updates since. Are they building truck orders first before they start building trucks to sit on lots?

    1. This is where I find the whole “reservation” process to be BS. Regardless of any process, GM is not changing the individual dealer allocation to build the “ sold” orders first. With the ongoing chip shortages that is obvious to the world, this is where I think GM is failing the customer. If I or anyone reserves and pays the 100.00 fee, then those orders should be selected and built prior to any stock orders when they are constantly having to ship out trucks with features not working. I ordered my truck last year, and as it sits right now, my dealer has only one new refresh coming… so I’m still waiting for my “sold” order to be picked up for build.

  3. I think my dealer has ordering constraints… according to them they have 7 Denali ultimates, several Denali and ZR2 sold and not a single one has been picked up for build…. Makes no sense.

  4. Hey GMA I’d like to suggest an original story and you probe GM on when and how chip retrofits will happen for all the vehicles delivered without the chips but owners told they would be added later at no cost.

    1. But that would take away from the stories about price increases; a new story for every GM model. Talk about mailing in an article…….

  5. For anyone waiting an extended time for their ordered GMC 2022 truck , I recommend sending Mary Barra
( the CEO of GM) an email stating when you ordered your vehicle and the circumstances of the order in a professional and kind manner . I ordered my 2022 Sierra 2500HD in August of 2021 . As of February 2022 I was still waiting. The truck was built the first week of December and I was given a vin number by my dealership. I emailed the office of Mary Barra and opened an executive level complaint. GM contacted me within 3 days and I received my truck on the
17th of February. Disappointed that it took a complaint to get my truck , but happy that the complaint got it delivered. I’m not a GM employee, just an old retired veteran.

  8. WHAT A HORRIBLE WAY THIS CORPORATION TREATS BUYERS AND DEALERS. ALL THE CRAP YOU GUYS ARE PUTTING UP WITH TO GET THESES TRUCKS AT PRICES 30% HIGHER THAN A YEAR AND A HALF AGO , AND WHATS GO’S UP WILL COME DOWN. FORD IS NOT TREATING ANY ONE THIS WAY. ONE WEEK WE HAD A VIN NUMBER , 9 WEEKS LATER IT WAS HERE. YOU GUYS NEED TO FIND GM DEALERS WITH ALLOCATION FOR BEST RESULTS.
