2022 Corvette Magnetic Ride Suspension Under Constraint

GM Authority has learned that the Magnetic Selective Ride Control Suspension, also known simply as Magnetic Ride, is currently under constraint for the 2022 Corvette.

Currently, new units of the 2022 Corvette, which are produced at the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant, are being assembled without Magnetic Ride.

As a reminder, here are the suspension options available for the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette (relevant RPO codes in parentheses):

  • Standard Corvette Stingray suspension (FE1)
  • Standard suspension with Magnetic Selective Ride Control (FE2)
  • Z51 performance suspension (FE3)
  • Z51 performance suspension with Magnetic Selective Ride Control (FE4)

As of this time, the constrained availability affects both the FE2 suspension and FE4 suspension. Meanwhile, the standard suspension options, RPO codes FE1 and FE3, are unaffected.

When available, the FE2 and FE4 Magnetic Ride suspension systems both add $1,895 to the overall cost of the Corvette. However, in order to equip the FE4 Magnetic Ride suspension, the Z51 performance package must first be equipped. The Z51 package costs an additional $6,345, and is available on all trim levels, including 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT.

At this time, it’s not clear what factor is responsible for the limited Magnetic Ride availability, or when it will become available again.

Magnetic ride isn’t the only feature being withheld from the 2022 Corvette. Currently, Rear Park Assist is unavailable as well. As a reminder, the 2022 Corvette Stingray is motivated by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine, rated at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed exclusively through the rear wheels via GM’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

  1. Marry Barra will get to the bottom of this folks oh yes 😎

  2. From reading this on other platforms it only affects March allocations going forward. Anyone with a Feb allocation is ok

    1. I wonder if the mag ride will be retrofitted when available? Are they really hoarding it for the Z06 or is it a supply issue?

      Reply
      1. Yup. That’d be the deal breaker for me. If essential provisions only were installed and the “short-supply” parts (chips ??) could be added after delivery – I could probably deal with it. I have a 2021 Z51 WITH Mag Ride and can tell you – if the only choice was to forgo it completely on a Z06 – I wouldn’t. Also wonder if Mag Ride on the Caddy is also “unavailable”

      2. Don’t think that option can be retrofitted

  3. The current constraint is for ALL NON-Z51 cars. All Z51s are available, FE1 and FE2 are not.

    1. Magnetic Ride IS AVAILABLE WITH Z51.

  5. I got lucky, I guess. My 22 was just built and has it with the Z51. Would not have been happy if not. Lol.

    1. So Dan, When did you place your order?

      1. June of 21.

        1. Lucky guy is right. I got on the dealer list October 2020 and GM just picked up my order. While I was literally finalizing order with dealer they received message that mag ride not available for remaining 22s and at least early 23s. Decided not to wait and ordered 22 without. Who knows what other issues will come up.

  6. Why do you need Magnetic Ride Control when the cars are only going to be parked in the garage?

  7. OMG that is to true..LOL

  8. As long as Magnetic Ride is ordered with Z51, it is available and not on constraint. It is ALL NON-Z51 cars, with or without Mag Ride, that are on constraint. I just placed 30 orders this week, and only Z51s went through.

  9. I went to the dealer today to order after a year wait. The sales guy said “by the way mag ride is not available” I will be tracking the car and no mag ride no deal. What a disappointment!

  10. SadSack, if you’re going to be tracking the car you should be getting the Z51 and mag ride is available with Z51.

    1. That’s news to me. I was planning on getting the z51 package. The guy didn’t say anything about the z51 will have it automatically. I will be calling them first thing today. Thank you

I would think they would notify me if they changed my order. My car is not delivered yet. Hope it made it through in time.

      1. My dealer said they heard it last Friday, but I thought it was for orders that were being picked up by GM after that day (like mine). If your car was built on March 8 you should be good. There was no end date identified even after 2023 production began.

        1. I got confirmation from my dealer that for the March allocations, no mag ride – period. No date on when will be available again.

  12. How about save the mag ride components for all c8 and chips and let the Camaro go down for the team. Having the c8 without everything is unacceptable. That’s not going to get Ferrari or Porsche buyers to switch to the corvette brand after being put at the elevated status then ever before in history. Unacceptable

  13. Mag Ride WILL be available for 2023’s. My order was. entered last week for a 23, dealer told me NO CONSTRAINTS!!!!

    1. Was the z51 available? My dealer said they don’t know yet.

  15. just got a letter from my dealer and I might be next in line but he has forewarned that FE4 Magnetic Ride Control is not available. I can keep the Z51 package with the FE3 performance suspension option instead. Or wait…….. Been waiting since Aug 2020 and I’m not going to track the car so – why wait?

    1. Having put about 6,000 miles on my ’21 Z51 and gone through the Spring Mountain experience – forgoing Mag Ride on ANY C8 – tracked or not – would be a deal breaker.
