2022 Chevy Silverado Gets Heated Steering Wheel Back

Chevy Silverado customers will be happy to learn that the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado HD are once again available with a heated steering wheel. The feature was previously unavailable as a result of the ongoing global microchip shortage.

According to GM Authority sources, all units of the 2022 Chevy Silverado that would normally be equipped with a heated steering wheel will once again include the feature, as of March 28th production.

The heated steering wheel feature is tagged with RPO code KI3, and is typically equipped as standard for LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, and High Country. The feature is not available for WT, Custom, or Custom Trail Boss models. As for the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD, the heated steering wheel feature is typically equipped as standard for LTZ and High Country trims, and available as an option for LT trims. The feature is not available for 2022 Chevy Silverado HD WT or Custom trims.

Previously, the heated steering wheel feature was under constraint for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 since production start for the latest model refresh. With regard to the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD, the feature was under constraint between December 6th, 2021 and March 28th, 2022.

Although the heated steering wheel feature is no longer under constraint for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado HD, several other features continue to be affected by the microchip shortage. As GM Authority covered previously, these include Heated Front Seats, Ventilated Front Seats, Heated Outboard Rear Seats, Rear Park Assist, and Front and Rear Park Assist.

Under the hood, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Under the skin is the GM T1 platform, with vehicle production taking place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana, GM Silao Assembly plant in Mexico, and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

Meanwhile, the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is available with the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine and 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, while under the skin is a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Flint Assembly Plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

    1. Yes, in Winter in Michigan I value the heated wheel over the heated seats but they are both nice!

  2. I would have never thought that a heated steering wheel would be a wanted feature. A few years ago in the dead of winter in NY, the rental I was given had a heated wheel. I couldn’t believe how nice it was. My new truck has it and on those few cold mornings in Florida it adds comfort. But what is more surprising that you never though it would happen, arthritis. Even on warm days flip on the heat and it give some relief from pain and hands from cramping on long drives.

    1. Yep. And once you experience the heated comfort, any vehicle you have to drive that doesn’t have it is annoying.

  5. It must be a $1000 dollar heated wheel seeing that GM just raised the MSRP by $1000 and I just ordered my LT double cab on March 10th, hope it arrives before the next round of price increases. GM certainly capitalizing on the high demand and low inventory

    1. Your dealer should honor the price at time of order.

      If not find another dealer.
