2022 Cadillac Escalade Gets Limited Rear-Seat Media System Availability

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade is the second model year of the all-new fifth-generation luxury SUV nameplate, arriving with just a few small changes and updates over the initial 2021 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2022 Cadillac Escalade’s Rear-Seat Media System is currently unavailable for certain trim levels.

The feature in question is tagged with RPO code UW9, and will be unavailable to order for the rest of the 2022 model year for certain trim levels of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade. It’s unclear at this time as to what is behind the availability issues.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade’s Rear-Seat Media System includes dual rear seat-mounted 12.6-inch diagonal color-touch LCD HD screens, plus Wi-Fi wireless projection capability, two Bluetooth headphones, and two HDMI ports located on the back of the center console.

The Rear-Seat Media System was offered as an optional upgrade for the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels, priced at $1,995. However, both trims no longer offer this option. That said, the Rear-Seat Media System is still included as standard on 2022 Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum trim levels. The system was never available on the Luxury trim.

As such, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum are the only full-size GM SUVs still offering the Rear-Seat Media System for the rest of the model year. As GM Authority covered previously, the system is also unavailable for the 2022 GMC Yukon, 2022 Chevy Tahoe, and 2022 Chevy Suburban.

To note, General Motors changed some of the Rear-Seat Media System features for the 2022 model year.

As a reminder, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is offered with two powertrain options, including the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Both engines connect to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

Under the skin, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade features an independent rear suspension and the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

  1. Lolol and fools will still pay $100,000+ for those over complicated piles of junk.

  2. Simply no other domestic producer can replicate or surpass GM’s more advanced product lines with a suggested retail of $35K and over. Yes, other two (2) have improved dramatically in last 5 to 7 years but …. so has GM.

Let’s not hold back domestic producers and, especially GM. Take the old term “planned obsolescence” out of your thought process and instead, focus on being “all you can be”. The market will richly reward you for your brilliance. You will see!!

  3. GM is NOT the powerhouse it once was. All 3 large SUV’s are ugly and not as smooth looking as their predecessors. GM said they will be all electric in several years but I doubt that anyone at GM has the intelligence to make it successful. There will always be a need for gasoline engines
