In addition to the new RS and Midnight editions of the 2022 Chevy Cruze that recently debuted in South America, General Motors has also just launched an updated version of the Cruze LT in Argentina – the only country in the world where Chevrolet’s compact car is built. The 2022 Chevy Cruze expands its powertrain configuration in its most basic trim level by adding the six-speed automatic transmission in the Argentine market.
The 2022 Chevy Cruze LT is the entry-level version in South American countries, first launching in the region in late December 2019 as a 2020 model-year vehicle. Since then, this Cruze trim level has only been offered with a manual transmission in Argentina, but it now receives a six-speed automatic transmission to appeal to more customers in this segment.
“Chevrolet Cruze has become a transformation motor for our brand and our company. We are very proud of this model manufactured in our industrial complex in Alvear, Santa Fe,” said Vice President of GM Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, Federico Ovejero, in a statement. “[The Cruze] today continues to demonstrate its relevance and potential after three years of consecutive market share growth,” he added.
Notably, Argentina is no longer the only country in South America where the Chevy Cruze is still offered with the six-speed manual transmission, as it now also becomes the only one to offer the base trim of the vehicle with both transmission choices. As such, the automatic six-speed automatic will be available on both the sedan and five-door hatchback body styles of the updated 2022 Chevy Cruze LT.
Like all other versions of the vehicle in all countries where it is marketed, the 2022 Chevy Cruze LT continues to be powered by the turbocharged 1.4L LE2 I-4 engine that generates 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. For the first time in Argentina, the Cruze’s engine can be matched to the automatic transmission across all trim levels.
The updated 2022 Chevy Cruze LT with the automatic transmission is now on sale in Argentina, featuring an expanded six-hue paint color palette with new Darkmoon Blue, along with optional partial leather seat upholstery. With these novelties for the two body styles, the Chevy Cruze now has the widest and most complete lineup in its history in the Argentine market.
The starting price of the updated 2022 Chevy Cruze LT in Argentina is 3,276,900 ARS, a hefty $30,750 USD at current exchange rates.

If you don’t care, then maybe don’t read an article with the words, “In Argentina” in the headline.
Why GM does not sell the Cruze in the US is a mystery. Perhaps now with gas prices rising and inflation making everything more expensive, the market will return to the compact/mid-size sedan design and the better economy and lower prices they offer. The Cruze and to a lesser extent the Focus were both very good small cars that if their manufacturers had reduced model/body style choices could be built in Mexico relatively economically and sold in the US at an appealing price point. Similar to what Ford is doing with Maverick, a Cruze LT sedan with options limited to color and transmission choice and sold at a 20k price point would fly out of showrooms today and build the owner loyalty a full range of models used to help develop. For evidence, try and find a clean, low mile Cruze or Focus for under 20 grand today.
My guess is GM will bring the Cruze back with another name.
GM stopped making the Cruze and closed the Lordstown complex . It was an effort to reduce costs and offshore jobs. (More money for Mary Barras pocket at the expense of taxpayers).
Which is a complete contradiction (lie) from what GM promised during the bankruptcy bailout.
They said they needed funding to ‘keep good jobs in the USA’
Then they did the opposite.
Sales of the Cruze, like all sedans, were down. It wasn’t profitable anyway to build a smaller car like that in the US using expensive union labor.
On top of all that, the Lordstown plant was an enormous complex they didn’t need anymore. They’d been wanting to close it for a long time.
That was in 2019 they discontinued the Cruze. But this is 2023.
I bought a 19 Cruze LS new in November 18. I have 22,450 miles and haven’t had one issue at all. Zero. While many bad mouth the Cruze, I love it. It’s a damn good-looking car and mine performs flawlessly. While many complain and bitch about how plastic is inside the car, do some homework on how many plastic parts are under the hoods of all BMW’s. A lot. Plus, I’ve never seen Cruze on any lists of cars not to buy or cars to avoid.
Why would they bring it back to the U.S or Canada. 30,000 U.S dollars, come on. It was 22,000 Canadian dollars in 2019 . Being made where they sell too ,Brazil. They are making a killing
