The new 2022 Corvette recently arrived in Brazil and has just appeared on the country’s sales charts for the first time in recent history. Although the South American subsidiary of General Motors has not homologated or offers the eighth-generation Corvette locally, Chevrolet‘s iconic sports car is unofficially sold in the Brazilian market through an import company.
During the month of January, the first five units sold of the 2022 model-year C8 Corvette in Brazil were registered, as part of an exclusive independent program executed by Direct Imports, an importer and distributor of new and pre-owned vehicles located in the city of São Paulo. As such, local marketing of the Corvette C8 is not supported or serviced by GM Brazil.
Direct Imports offers and markets the new 2022 Corvette in South America’s largest country through self-imported U.S. homologated units and in limited quantities. In fact, this company has been importing the Corvette C8 on a regular basis since the first quarter of 2020 at a rate of 20 units per year due to manufacturing limitations and its high price in the country.
“The Corvette C8 has been in high demand even in this bullish dollar scenario and we were able to make reservations to secure these units for the lucky top 20,” said Direct Imports CEO Daniel Valerio in a press release. “There are still units left to close our 2022 U.S. reserves,” he added.
Interested customers can order their 2022 Corvette through the importer’s website or directly at the company’s headquarters, with the Coupe body and the Z51 Performance Package as the only configuration offered.
The 2022 Corvette with the Z51 Performance Package offers a number of upgrades including a performance-tuned suspension, larger brakes, a shorter axle ratio, a performance exhaust, and better cooling for the powertrain. In this configuration, the 6.2L LT2 V8 engine offers a maximum output of 501 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque mated to the eight-speed automatic transmission.
The base price for the single configuration of the 2022 Corvette in Brazil is 1,400,000 BRL, a hefty $264,900 USD at current exchange rates. Those interested can choose from 12 different exterior colors and three interior packages, as well as customize their unit with optional accessories.

501 HP? Are we getting a HP bump for model year 2023 for the Stingray here? Or do they rate their engines differently in Brazil?
I was thinkin the same thing…. Or are the USA version downgraded for some legal reason ?
I am curious what the dyno output of a broken-in C8 is by an independent test. The youtube videos I found
were new cars not broken in or other odd distractions from my simple question, we are told the C8 is 495 HP with
optional exhaust, but is it possibly higher. I suspected that the 495 number was used for legal reasons.
And because I simply want to answer people, its got 500… I thought about the air filter replacement that claims
a 6hp bump, giving us 501hp (with optional air cleaner). Anybody got any statistics on our C8’s ?
Sure makes us feel lucky with our price! 20 per year probably means they only have 20 Brazilianares there! LOL Tomg
From Motortrend Dyno test of a 2020 C8:
We’re in shock. A quick math check reveals that’s an estimated 656 hp and 606 lb-ft of torque at the crank if we assume a 15-percent drivetrain loss—way over the 495 hp and 470 lb-ft that Chevy claims.
Runs three and four are also done in fifth gear; the dynamometer reads 561 hp and 515 lb-ft, then 556 hp and 523 lb ft. That translates to 660 hp and 606 lb-ft and 654 hp and 615 lb-ft at the crank, respectively, assuming the same 15-percent drivetrain loss.
We couldn’t come up with a conclusion other than the engine makes a lot more power than the advertised 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Not a bad thing !!!
At $264,900 USD it must be a supercar there.
In typical GM fashion: Export? Why? Do they drive Anerican cars “abroad”, What is “abroad”? Nah, we don’t need any foreign markets.
