General Motors officially unveiled the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 in September of the 2021 calendar year, debuting a long list of changes and updates over the preceding 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited and 2021 model year. Now, GM Authority has the first exclusive photos of the updated 2022 Silverado 1500 LTZ out and about on public roads.
This is the first time we’ve seen the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 LTZ driving on real-world roads. Up front, we see the updated Silverado’s new front fascia, highlighted by a chrome grille and gold Bow Tie emblem, as well as a prominent chrome upper cross bar and chrome horizontal bars for the insert. C-shaped lighting elements are placed on either side of the grille, while below the air intake is a chrome bumper. The lights incorporate LED reflector high-intensity forward lamps with LED signature curtain Daytime Running Lamps and White tracer animations.
Moving to the profile, we see the refreshed 2022 Silverado is equipped with chrome door handles, chrome mirror caps, and chrome window surrounds, complementing the polished body elements up front. In the corners, the truck is riding on new 20-inch Sterling Silver alloy wheels (RPO code RHO), which are included as standard. This truck is also equipped with optional Power-retractable assist steps with rearward articulation (RPO code BRS), providing access to the bed.
Speaking of the rear, the refreshed 2022 Silverado LTZ is equipped with a chrome rear bumper, as well as a single exhaust tip. The body panels are painted in Cherry Red Tintcoat (paint code GSK).
Under the hood, this 2022 Silverado LTZ is motivated by the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine with Dynamic Fuel Management. The naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax can be specified in the LTZ as well, which add a dual exhaust setup. More affordable trim levels of the updated Silverado also include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline, now with 430 pound-feet of torque.
To note, the LTZ trim level is positioned between the off-road-ready Silverado ZR2 and range-topping Silverado High Country with regard to the Silverado’s trim level hierarchy.
Under the skin, the refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, and starting in the spring of 2022, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

Gorgeous! Now bring the 2025 V8 update!
There will be updates to the V8? Do you mean the 6,2 or the 5,3?
GM engineers have let out that the 2025 MY (2024 trucks) will feature all new engines, be 15% more efficient and as powerful as ever. GM filed a patent back in 2019 detailing a engine with a compression ratio of 15.5-1, with emphasis on use in I4, I6 and V8 configurations. Likely the 5.3 and 6.2 will receive the tech as they are solid engines and prime candidates.
You better get use to and start enjoying the wonderful 2.7 turbo
Needs more chrome on the grill and bigger screen!
When does Canada get pricing for these and when is the expected build dates
Just add 30% that’s the exchange rate between Canada and USA.
1. I seem to have warmed up to the new front end. Beautiful truck!
2. WHEN CAN I BUILD AND PRICE ONE!!!
Build & Price will go live on chevy.com soon, but we’re already ordering them through GM at our dealership in Roseville, CA. We expect pricing to remain close to the current 2022 Silverado Limited model pricing. Keep in mind that sold customer orders are typically given priority over stock orders, so place your order soon. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you want to pull the trigger.
Hi will you deliver to Southern California?
If you’re on the east side of the country, I have already placed orders for several of these trucks and full pricing is available for 99% of the options/trims. Cole(dot)gagliano(at)genesischevy.com!
I live in alberta and local dealer said he cant get pricing
GM Canada is built different unfortunately. US dealers have pricing and we already have units in production.
The grill bowtie logo placement above the center bar drives me insane. Why do they always screw up one thing to make it look odd? Everything else looks fine exterior wise and the interior is proper now. Put the damn logo where it belongs.
I agree Jack. That grill looks terrible. I recently ordered a White RST. I’ll likely order a black grill (if available) or have the grill painted black.
Guess that was the best way to hide the hood latch in their mind.
Definitely looks like it shares the bumper and maybe dogs with the sierra now too.
I wish you wouldn’t have said that. I can’t stop looking now. 🙁
Odd for sure. Deal breaker for whatever package that grill comes with…likely. Maybe I’ll learn to appreciate it like high art.
I actually like it because it is centered on the truck itself. Photos don’t do it justice, it looks more symmetrical when you see it in person because the eye is more keen at assessing depth than a camera lens. Instead of seeing mostly an asymmetric grill, you perceive the whole truck and how the bowtie is centered squarely in the middle of it. You watch, three years from now you’ll see the old Silverado and think “Man that bowtie looks like it’s riding on the ground!”
I noticed that follows the general location on the Silverado EV too and it does look good on the EV.
My2500 – 2022 LTZ Z71 Duramax does not have the bowtie in the front or back. Does anyone know why?
Z71 badging takes precedent over the bowties
GM seems to be slow walking the launch of this one. COVID is to blame I guess.
No they don’t have enough plastic for all the interiors.
Yeah I noticed. Im guessing both covid and the chip shortage has impacted the launch.
Production appears to have been pushed back a mere two weeks from 2/7 to 2/21 for my very first examples since first announcement. Just because the configurator isn’t live doesn’t mean the launch has been impacted. No orders for the old Silverado Limited have gone in for over a month, the ball is already in motion.
I have a LT Trail Boss ordered that was given a 2/21 production date last week.
My LTZ that I ordered in mid January has a production date of 3/7/22. No change on that date since yesterday.
The Canadian trucks can’t get the parts to the oshowa plant
it’s pretty clear that gmauthority needs better sources inside gm,how many more b.s. dates for the configurator can they give us…
lol “gmauthority” doesn’t have ANY inside sources… they’re just a fansite pretending like they’re more important than they are.. 90% of their “breaking coverage” is made up just to get clicks… lol
Wow. I didn’t think that GM could make the Chevy grilles even uglier but I was wrong. The whole thing looks pieced together IMHO.
Like the truck but HATE the wheels, looks like an enlarged version of the old 17″ wheel on 2021 base 1/2 ton.
You’re right they do, not a fan of them.
I’m going back and forth on those wheels. I could live with them if they were polished like my 19 LTZ, but they’re “Sterling Silver,” and I really prefer the shinier look. Overall, I’m very pleased with the LTZ. I’m the inventory manager at a Chevy dealer and the first allocation we got, I put a Cherry Red LTZ in for myself. Sight unseen. This is nice to FINALLY see the LTZ – now to see how they’re executing the interior trim on the LTZ. Hope that lousy stupid Build and Price shows up soon!
I agree on the wheels, I’m have ordered a new LTZ, and this is the first time I’ve seen the new wheels. I would have preferred a chrome look myself, but I put a set of aftermarket wheels in the same silver colour on my 2019 Buick LaCrosse, and I must say, I really do like them. It also seems like there won’t be any chrome flaking issues, where rust would sure start. Been there done that with the rust issues here in the Great White North, with all the salt on the roads in the winter. I was going to order a set of 22 inchers in a chrome finish, but up here in Canada, they want over 4 grand for the option. And you don’t even get any credit for the 20 inch wheels they replace. That makes the 22 inch wheels about a 5 grand option. I deal at a bank, I don’t own it.
Hi Tom, would you know the rpo code for these wheels…curious! Thanks for reading YS
My 2016 LTZ looks better than that.
I’d have to agree my 2017 ltz looks better. If I only didn’t have a crappy transmission I wouldn’t be trading in quite yet. I’m probably getting a LT trail boss anyways.
Not sure if i could get over the bowtie being up that high….The rest of the front end is OK, but put the bowtie in the middle of the grille, looks out of place right under the hood..
Is the LTZ going to be made in a Double Cab, if they do I’m going to order one? /
Yes it is
I don’t think you are right about the LTZ double cab. I think it’s only available in a crew. I wish they were available as a double, as I too prefer that configuration.
The ltz does come in double cab standard bed according to GMA. The high country does not.
I have seen two instances where GMA has indicated a double cab is available in an LTZ, but according to my dealer, they are wrong.
Hopefully a dealer will chime in and clarify this once and for all. I for one would appreciate it.
Hello Rev,
The LTZ is not orderable in a double cab at this time. The highest available trim on a double can for 22MY is the RST as of now.
Thanks Cole……..your clarification is much appreciated, thanks for taking the time.
REV
“gmauthority” is wrong about 90% of the time.
I think this thing looks great! If I order one next week, when will these be delivered. I’m in Texas. Any ideas ?
I ordered a Trail Boss LT a couple weeks ago and don’t even have an allocation yet. My guess is May/June before I see it. If it comes in before then I would be surprised.
Were there any new options on the trail boss different from previous years ?
Everything is about the same as previous years with the exception of the 3.0 diesel being offered in the Trail Boss.
I ordered my LTZ the 2nd week of January. Allocation was immediate at the time and it was officially ordered about a week later. It currently has a production date of the week of March 7, 2022. If all goes well, and without delay, I should have it by April at the earliest.
Now if they could only figure out how to make a reliable V8 and a 4 cylinder that can actually get better mileage than most competitors V8’s and twin turbo V6’s. The truck looks good but I would be afraid of reliability after hearing many horror stories regarding numerous 2019 on up owners with these vehicles, especially with 8 speed transmissions and 5.3 engines.
Ordered a LTZ here in Canada, was built the week of march 7 and was informed of a VIN today……..
I got my VIN yesterday on my LTZ here in the states. It, too, was built last week (March 7). And now, we wait for it to be shipped. Hopefully not too long. Fingers crossed!
My truck was built on March 4th. Tentative arrival date at my dealership is April 4th. It was built at the Mexico Plant.
Who puts a mud-flop front of the rear wheel ?
