Refreshed 2022 Sierra Elevation: Real-World Photos

General Motors revealed the refreshed 2022 Sierra last October, pulling the sheets on an updated pickup with a slew of changes compared to the preceding 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Now, GM Authority has exclusive first photos of the 2022 Sierra Elevation.

Up front, the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500 features a new front end with a revamped fascia incorporating a broad grille and C-shaped lighting elements. The grille on the updated 2022 Sierra Elevation includes a black grille insert and prominent red GMC badge. The bumper is body-colored, while the C-shaped corner lights double as both daytime running lights and turn signals. The front end also incorporates a set of LED fog lamps.

When viewed from the side, the refreshed 2022 Sierra Elevation shows off body-color door handles, which blend in well with dark trim bits around the windows and sideview mirrors. In the corners, the pickup rides on a set of 20-inch Black gloss painted aluminum wheels (RPO code RD3). Also check out the 6-inch rectangular chromed tubular assist steps (RPO code VXH).

The rear end bookends the pickup with a body-colored rear bumper, matching the front. Also of note is the tailgate. Although the GMC MultiPro tailgate is included as standard, this particular example of the 2022 Sierra Elevation has a “traditional” tailgate, which is offered in lieu of the MultiPro tailgate for those buyers that prefer something a little more conventional.

Under the hood, this refreshed 2022 Sierra Elevation is equipped with either the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now with 430 pound-feet of torque), or the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 engine. Further engine options in the refreshed 2022 Sierra lineup include the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

    1. No if the demand was there they would do it. Sounds like you don’t know what you are talking about.

    3. Elevation has an available “Elevation Premium package” which includes a Jet-black leather interior for the front seats.

    4. In Canada it is, it’s under the Elevation Premium Package

    5. I get where you’re coming from with that, but I would prefer getting cloth seats and upgrading it with Katzkins.

      1. what does a standard set of Katzkin cost for front and rear seats?

    6. You can option it with leather. Leather is required if you get the sunroof or hd surround. I cant remember which when i ordered but it was one of the two.

The downside to leather is the Elevation cannot be ordered with cooled leather, only heated.

    7. According to Motor Trend, they added leather bucket seats as a package options

Cant wait to get my mitts on a 22 or 23- but GM can we make the badges smokey grey and not big, bright chrome?? I will be pulling those off the second I get home from a dealership- especially if going all black!

  3. If you zoom really close on the side shot and check the interior it looks as though the SLE/Elevation/SLT will use the same new interior as the Silverado. Not the interior we saw on the AT4/Denali.

  4. I can’t understand the elevation name, what’s the matter can’t their millennials think of a better name?

  6. It would be nice if Gm actually produced what they hype. Still waiting for an AT4 ordered in august of last year. I read of all the wonderful products they are building but have yet to see them on dealers lots. They must all be living in some sort of liberal utopia where everything is unicorns and rainbows.

    1. You must be living under a rock…COVID impact = shortages (beyond just chips, workers, logistic etc.)

      1. It’s 2022 nobody cares about covid anymore so stay mad

      2. At some point the covid excuse has to stop. People and companies have used this for far to long now.

        1. The cowards will hold onto covid as long as they can, spineless is a good word for them. Or I should say one of the only words that is allowed on here.

    2. GM is making a mistake by not giving the AT4 a bigger share of the production mix. Demand is really high for AT4. They think it is a niche trim but they should make as many AT4s as they do SLTs.

  7. Can’t wait to get mine. Ordered 4×4 with a 3.0 duramax and the elevation premium package

  8. I’m so tired of blacked out. Wheels, grills, trim, have always been great jewelry where designers can express themselves. Throw just a little bit of dust on some black wheels and they become hard to see. Unless blacked out rigs are spotlessly clean it’s hard to appreciate them. Even clean they do not have the pop of brushed or polished aluminum and chrome. If you want blacked out just buy the cheapest model and paint the steel wheels black. From 75 feet they look the same.

  9. I recently purchased the 2022 elevation white n color. I immediately drove to a local tire an wheel store an traded n the boring black wheels. Can GM get over the black ugly ass wheels an sell the truck with the crome r polished wheel r give the customer a choice without double charging them for a different wheel. I’m sure the black wheels r a cheaper buy for them. Another thing, for the price u pay u would think GM could at least put lights n both sunvisors an a sunglass compartment where the interior lights r located. Give the consumers a break an build a more accommodating product an stop shafting your customers.

  10. I think the elevation is the best bang for your buck. You can still get leather sunroof heated seats etc. Custom built one with my dealer with duramax and max trailering package. Maybe I’ll see it in 2023.

  11. I love black wheels and emblems! I don’t know about all you chrome folks.

  12. The Elevation with the Black wheels/grill/etc, can also now have blacked out badging all around. I ordered a new style Elevation with Sunroof leather and A 3.0l Duramax, in Desert Sand Metallic, 2 days before Christmas. I work in sales At A dealership and my order still isn’t picked for build. This will be a long wait but will be worth it. Chrome is a little old-fashioned for me but that’s the great thing about options.

    1. There is no tell yet from GM but we at the dealership have heard from reps it will be spring. It drives us all nuts with these mid cycle releases. The truck I ordered with my Dealer principle, gave me all the options I wanted to see…but at end of build…price said NA. It is ordered blindly with no pricing. I am a lease client being that I sell. So the price isn’t to crazy for me. But to all who are on a budget or what ever their case may be are gonna have to wait. In Canada the build outs became available to the dealers but not online. You should be able to go to local dealer and bud what you want. However the order will just sit till your dealer gets allocated for It . Hurry up and wait. Lol

  13. So when then hell are we going to get the online configuration for the 2022. I have a reservation for the ultimate and the dealer showed me options no prices or anything look at. I said call me when I can see colors and then I’ll order.

    1. The Silverado online config is technically up, but if you look closely, you’ll find that the images and options are tailored to the 2021 still (ie: no full digital dash). I’m not sure how accurate it is, nor am I sure why a truck that goes into production next week isn’t available online.

  14. I like the Elevation but it looks like they lowered the front end. I always liked the current model almost looks level but this is defiantly lower in the front from the side shots.
