General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 last October, debuting a long list of changes and updates over the 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Now, we’re taking a closer look at this 2022 GMC Sierra Pro X31, which was seen riding around Michigan coated in a thick layer of winter weather road grime.
Outside, this 2022 GMC Sierra Pro X31 is covered in Summit White paint (paint code GAZ), which makes the dirt that much more apparent. As a reminder, the Pro is the base-level trim, but this particular example is also equipped with the X31 Off-Road Package (RPO code X31).
The X31 Off-Road Package includes a variety of upgrades that enhance the GMC Sierra’s off-road worthiness, including (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Off-Road suspension
- Hill Descent Control (JHD)
- Skid plates (NZZ)
- Heavy-duty air filter (K47)
- X31 hard badge
- Auto-locking rear differential (G80)
- Two-speed transfer case (NQH)
Opting for the X31 Off-Road Package requires four-wheel drive, as well as either a Crew Cab or Double Cab body style. The package also requires the Trailering Package (RPO code Z82), which includes a trailer hitch, seven-pin and four-pin connectors, and Hitch Guidance (RPO code CTT).
Additionally, the GMC Sierra’s X31 Off-Road Package requires all-terrain tires, which means either 265/70R17 all-terrain, blackwall tires (RPO code QDV), LT265/70R17C all-terrain, blackwall tires (RPO code), or LT275/65R18C blackwall Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires (RPO code R3O).
As for the engine spec, the X31 Off-Road Package requires the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 engine gasoline engine, and is not available in conjunction with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine.
This particular 2022 GMC Sierra Pro is also equipped with 18-inch six-spoke machined aluminum wheels with Dark Grey Metallic accents (RPO code UHN), as well as the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires. The 18-inch six-spoke machined aluminum wheels and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires are required for one another, and both features are required for the X31 package.
As for the broader refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup, the standard engine is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and an uprated 430 pound-feet of torque. The engine lineup also includes the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, which produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, as well as the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Under the body panels, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.
