Refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate: More Real-World Pictures

GM Authority has captured more real-world photos of the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate just as it’s set to begin arriving at U.S. dealers sometime this quarter.

The Denali Ultimate is the new range-topping trim level for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, and is easily identifiable thanks to its exclusive “Vader Chrome” exterior trim and logos as well as standard 22-inch Low Gloss Black wheels (RPO code Q7L).

Apart from exclusive dark chrome trim and wheels, the Denali Ultimate is otherwise similar in appearance to the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra Denali. Out front, it features the refreshed Sierra’s new larger grille, along with C-shaped LED headlights and a redesigned front bumper garnish with chrome tow hooks. We can spot the truck’s power-retractable running boards from the side, while GMC’s MultiPro tailgate, which is standard on the Denali Ultimate, resides out back.

A set of redesigned C-shaped LED taillights flank the six-way tailgate on either side. The dual exhaust setup remains the same as the pre-refresh Sierra 1500, although the cutouts for the CornerStep rear bumper do appear to be slightly smaller on this trim level compared to the 2021 model.

The new Sierra Denali Ultimate comes standard with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and mated to a GM 10-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift, as well as four-wheel drive and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case. Denali Premium Suspension with Adaptive Ride Control is also standard equipment.

Pricing for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1500 starts at $80,395 including destination and freight.

  1. I like the GMC Products … sometimes better than Chevrolet

    1. Ugly grill just like Silverado, time for a refresh ASAP!

      Reply
  2. Rather surprised the “ultimate” didn’t come with rear wheel liners.

    Reply
    1. Funny… I really like these wheels!
I just put in an order for Denali Ultimate with a 3.0 Duramax in Titanium Rush and the Brembo brake package. It was the interior that got my interest initially. Super Cruise is nice, I’m sure I’ll use it when I can, the exterior look is important but in reality, I’m looking forward to that interior!

      1. What did your total MSRP come out to?

Also, what made you add the Brembo brake package?

        Reply
        1. I spent my working life in the business of European Auto maintenance and repair. I simply like big brakes and grabbed the option when I saw the Brembos.
There are no discounts so I’m paying list price. Of course my 2020 Denali 2500 is worth far more than it should be these days.

          Reply
      2. I ordered a Ultimate, 3.0L Duramax in Titanium Rush also. What timeline did they tell you on delivery of the 2022 GMC Denali?

        Reply
        1. LOL! “…8 to 12 weeks… maybe?”
          That’s the quote literally.
I am hoping for June but we will see!

          Reply
          1. Midwest dealer told me the Duramax was running a month later than the 6.2L. I was hoping for a May delivery.

            Reply
          2. Ordered one in New York end of January they told me 5 months

            Reply
    2. When will the refreshed 2022 Elevation with 5.3l come out

      Reply
  3. While this front is growing on me, I don’t think the Chevy will. The pre refresh Chevy was nicer

    Reply
  4. Love the Vader Chrome but the use of regular chrome on door handles and lower part of fascia is a simple look of oops we forgot.

    Reply
  5. This comes standard with Super Cruise, right? I think that might justify the price for me but I need to have the opportunity to try it out first. On the other hand, GM is working on Ultra Cruise and I think that is going to be a huge improvement.

    Reply
  6. In terms of curb appeal, GM really seems to be struggling when it comes to wheel design. While many aspects of the truck need to be considered, if the tires/wheels don’t draw me in then, it throws off the whole package. Saw a new F250 wheel the other day and thought why can’t GM offer a wheel like that. The wheels totally made the truck.

    Reply
    1. Funny, I am not a fan of Ford wheels in general. I have very little brand loyalty these days so I suppose I just like what I like. The wheels on the Denali Ultra are awesome in my view.

      Reply
  7. Geez this thing looks extremely cheap

    Reply
    1. All vehicles look cheap when covered in road salt and grime. Watched a couple recent youtube reviews in this same color, and it looked awesome cleaned up. Only things I would do different is either paint the flares body-color or gloss black, and ad ventilation to the rear seats. (standard on most trucks in this class) I would also like to see a Vader Chrome option for all chrome surfaces. That said I would totally buy this truck, couldn’t say that pre-refresh.

      Reply
      1. Is the Vader chrome going to only be available on the denali ultimate?

        Reply
        1. yes

          Reply
          1. That’s stupid another missed opportunity on gm part but what else is new.

            Reply
            1. Its a trim level exclusive. Same way the AT4 has the increased suspension height. If you could add any part you wanted on to any vehicle then trim levels would be unnecessary.

Dont get me wrong, being able to build a vehicle utilizing any option/accessory available would be amazing, but its not feasible for mass-production purposes.

              Reply
  8. Base price 80k lol. You can get a fully loaded Ram 1500 Laramie and the interior is off the charts for 75k. Make this ultimate look like doo doo

    Reply
    1. That off the charts Ram is missing full digital instrument cluster, massaging seats, hands free driving, carbon pro bed, and multi-flex tailgate with standard built in kicker audio system. Add those features to the Ram and it will be north of 80k.

      Reply
      1. Yea massaging seats is a deal breaker for me. I can’t imagine driving something that doesn’t have them. I mean can you imagine actually owning a vehicle that doesn’t have massaging seats?

        Reply
      2. And… you would still have that awful vertical screen arrangement! And that grill…
I owned a 2016 Ram 2500 and other than that six speed, it was an incredibly well built truck with a fine interior but the new 1500’s are not my favorite.

        Reply
      3. @truckz But it’s the base price dude. It’s really a 100k

        Reply
        1. Naw… it is loaded as a package. All I could add was the Brembo brake package, the 3.0 Duramax was a reduction in price and I think the color was a $500 add. Nothing else to buy except a tonneau cover. Nothing else even as an option!

          Reply
  9. First, the Sierra Ultimate looks better than the Ram 1500 Laramie exterior wise. However, while interior taste is subjective, give me the Ultimate’s interior with super-cruise and upgraded tech hands down over any Ram 1500.

Secondly, powertrain wise, the Ultimate 6.2 or optional 3.0 I-6 are simply better engines than what the 1500 Laramie has to offer.

    Reply
    1. @valianceholder okay I respect that. Just do me a favor go eyeball the 2021 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn 10th anniversary Edition. That’s the one my father owns. The interior is really top notch. It’s not the basic longhorn interior

      Reply
  10. I continue to struggle with the GMC wheel well front edge design on this generation of truck as the design does not flow with the body. I have owned many GMC models and they have always had painted wheel wells cover trim but this Denali Ultimate offers only plastic wheel well trim in black, really? Looking at the back bumper with the rectangle exhausts protruding out the bumper looks crowded and forced.

    Reply
  11. It costs 10-15k to build one of these right? Maybe it’s more but I thought I read somewhere that it was around that price range. They’re selling it for 80k plus potential dealer markups? Im all for companies making money but it seems really excessive for something that tows 9300 pounds, I feel that a 3/4 or 1 ton is a better value than half tons now.

    Reply
  12. I think a tipping point has been reaches /d where the interior looks more like 85k than the exterior.

Not judging it as ugly just not very premium looking for the price point.

    Reply
    1. Out of curiosity, what do you think would make the interior worth $80k? What is it missing?

      Reply
  13. As much as I would love to purchase one, I gotta pass on this. Who spends 80K on a truck that has one of the worst audio systems ever put in to any GM vehicle. Bose is downright awful. Every year it gets worse. If they’d put in a stellar audio system, I’d order one today, but GM has absolutely no sense when it comes to audio performance. I’ll spend my money and pick up an F-150 with the B&O Unleashed audio system.

    Reply
    1. I don’t know why people complain a lot about audio systems. I mean why would you want to listen to a radio if it’s B&O or Bose system, it doesn’t matter since the radio is barely hearable lol.

      Reply
  14. I ordered an Ultimate in titanium Rush. My price was 4k under MSRP. $300 over invoice is standard on order.

    1. Thanks Nate! I lost my $500 deposit from my local dealer but saved a lot buying from Mike Neglio.

      1. Any concern about where you fall in their allocation? I am not sure how that all plays out. Did they give an an idea? I am looking for Denali Ultimate. 6.2.

        Reply
        1. Allocations aren’t an issue with the dealership when it comes to trucks, Yukons on the other hand are a bit different. The Denali Ultimate truck is a constraint listed 9% this week across the country. So I’m expecting it to get picked up before too long and hopefully have a truck in 4 months

          1. Appreciate the response. I’ll give Mike a call in next couple days.

            Reply
            1. Do so, he’s great to work with. Just call him up and tell him what you want and chat with him and he will shoot you build sheet with pricing that is protected if you choose to go through with it etc… You won’t get a better deal unless you receive employee pricing which I guess you don’t. What color you thinking?

              Reply
              1. I am thinking Titanium Rush. May consider another color if it gets built sooner. I have a Tesla Model Y and my old 2014 GMC Sierra. Looking to sell both and get into one vehicle. I don’t have to this in a hurry, but getting excited thinking about something new. Getting a little tired of being so close to the ground in the model Y.

Side note: Ive got family that works for GM, so I should be able to get the friends/family discount. Do you know if they combine discounts?

    3. Have you heard anymore on your truck that you ordered? GM factories in Indiana shut down for 2 weeks starting April 4th.

      Reply
      1. I ended up not ordering with mike and using my local dealer. I can get GM family pricing and they are willing to honor it, so it makes sense to buy local as opposed to shipping it down. If my GM Family Pricing falls through for any reason, that may change.

All that being said, I am #13 on the list at local GMC dealership for an AT4. They have no information when it will go into production. At this rate, I might just have them hold off and put me on the list for a 2023. Would hate to take deliver in June/July and have the ’23 come out a couple months later

        Reply
        1. I ordered the Ultimate, but I don’t know where I am on the list. I contacted GM Team and I asked about my order, they responded: (your order has been entered into the system and your dealer is waiting for allocation to match up with your place in line so that it can be submitted to GM.) I am not sure the truck will be built the 2nd quarter and already the trucks have increased in price. I am afraid the 2023 trucks will be quite a bit more expensive.

        2. Same here. I ordered from a local dealer so I can get sales tax difference on my trade in. They have told me that they don’t know when it will be built. I assume I end up being in a 2023. Ordered Denali Ultimate, 6.2, Titanium Rush.

      1. 2022 Ultimate, 3.0L Duramax in Titanium Rush color was MSRP $79340. Discount of over $4000 and only $148 doc fees. That is unbelievable to me. I could give you the info if it is allowed over the forum

      2. Nate I received a quote of $1195 for shipping the truck in June. The shipper has insurance on the shipped vehicle, but I will check if they video tape loading and unloading along with is there a deductible on the vehicle they are shipping. Also I want to make sure they don’t load and reload at a distribution area.

You can load out a 2500 ltz z71 for sub 80 and it it can actually do some work.

  21. Just got a call from the dealership. GM will not produce the 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate (I had one reserved). Additionally, super cruise will no longer be available on Sierra. GMC “build and price” page has already updated to reflect these changes.

    1. I haven’t heard anything from the dealership I ordered from. This is the first I heard about GMC not building the Ultimate.

      Reply
      1. Go check out the GMC page. It confirms what my dealer told me. Ultimate and super cruise option for regular Denali are gone. I’m not happy about this. Oh, and they jacked up the price of the regular Denali to the tune of about 12k

        Reply
  22. Sorry to report this morning via text my dealer confirms that they have sold out all 2022s and will not take any new orders until 2023. I’m not sure my order was accepted. I doubt it. Will know on Monday oh well time for a raptor?

    Reply
    1. Meaning your dealer is out of allotments for 2022 or GMC is ceasing production?

Trying to figure out if that means any order that wasn’t submitted as of yet will be delayed OR if they have scheduled all their vehicles for production and luck witless depend on dealer allotment.

      Reply
  23. Per the dealer when I asked if rumors were true…. “Actually that’s what we were just told in the meeting. All Denali ultimates are sold out. They’ll start production in September for 2023.”

    Reply
  24. From my dealer which he got from GM:

“The remainder of Q2 production will see this trim (ultimate) at 0%.  We are hopeful that by June (Q3) we can resume production of Ultimate without Supercruise and see which SRE customers are willing to remove that option or prefer to wait when it becomes available for 23MY.”

  25. Yesterday May 19th I was informed by the GMC dealer that the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate will not be built in 2022. I have the option of waiting until 2023 for a Denali Ultimate but there will be a price adjustment for a 2023 truck. I have chosen to keep my name on the list for a 2023 Denali Ultimate for January 2023. I don’t mind telling you how frustrating it is to wait this long only to be told, “SORRY” and now have to wait another 8 or 9 months. I hope those of who ordered your trucks you can still get them.

    Reply
    1. I pulled my order yesterday after being told that truck wouldn’t have Super Cruise. It is frustrating. They still run the Super Cruise commercial. I will wait to see what the price increase is for 2023. More than likely switching to ford. Platinum or Limited.

  26. Was told by my dealer yesterday it’s unlikely the 2023 will have supercruise as well…. Frustrating for sure.

    Reply
  27. According to the dealer Jan. 2023 is when they will start building the Super cruise again. This is the information GM has told them. Subject to change as always….

  28. I canceled my order 6 weeks ago…
This entire intro was like a big tease. I found a very nice 2022 F-150 King Ranch in Rapid Red with a 5.0 and bought it instead.
    Now I’m happy!

    1. I totally get it! GM has poor planning, example: information concern chips were, GM had the opportunity to purchase chips from a short-term supplier which isn’t their normal supply and cost were going to be higher but chose not to. Maybe this is false information, but it seemed like a reliable source. GM was bailed out with taxpayer money and is now owned by an overseas company. I believe we are being forced to buy electric vehicles.

      1. I am more upset by the fact that they keep introducing vehicles and touting Super Cruise (2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate) but they can’t even put it into current offerings. At least on the F-150, the hardware is being installed and then will be updated by OTA updates or dealer updates. The Sierra Denali Ultimate wont even have the hardware.

  29. Just ordered mine (June 1) and the salesman said the super cruise will not be available … due to a shortage of parts.
