This slick 2009 Cadillac CTS four-door luxury sedan, previously owned by actor and racing driver James Garner, was recently auctioned off, raising $100,000 for charity.
For those who may not know, James Garner starred in a variety of movies and television shows, including standouts like The Rockford Files, The Great Escape, Grand Prix, and Murphy’s Romance. Garner was also deeply involved in motorsports, owning the American International Racers race team in the late ‘60s. Additionally, Garner was one of the inaugural inductees in the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, and drove the pace car at the Indy 500 on multiple occasions. Garner passed away in 2014.
Now, Garner’s 2009 Cadillac CTS has sold as Lot 3000 at the 2022 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Outside, the four-door is covered in Black Cherry exterior paint, complemented by subtle pin striping. The four-door rides on a set of large chrome wheels, while up front is a simple, sharp grille treatment, finished in silver.
Inside the cabin is a swath of Black upholstery, with Silver trim added here and there. There’s also a clock mounted in the dash.
As for the greasy bits, this Cadillac CTS is motivated by a naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 engine, which connects to a six-speed automatic transmission. The sedan also features all the usual equipment, such as power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.
Overall, this Cadillac CTS looks to be in very condition, and sports just 18,000 miles on the clock.
Considering its history, it’s not surprising that it sold for an even $100,000. The auction proceeds will go to benefit the James Garner Animal Rescue Fund, which was established by the actor’s daughter, Greta “Gigi” Garner, and provides rescue organizations, shelters, individuals, fosters, and vets with a variety of resources, such as medical care, adoptions, training, pet supplies, transportation and food, among other things.

Rockford files is on now. I miss Jim.
Great actor and true racer. I will never forget walking the pit at Mid Ohio and coming head on with Jim in his Goodyear hat just taking in the race,
Now I bet that was a cool experience.
It was. It was like little Hollywood in central Ohio as Paul Newman was there as he always was as well nut case Tom Cruise.
Met Jim at Indy back in the 80’s in the pits one year he drove the pace car. That was the first time I met him. He was a good guy and hated a fuss being made.
That’s super cool. Tom didn’t jump on any couches did he? Lmao
No but I did not know he was there and ended up bumping back top back with him. All these women were making a fuss and I though it was a driver at first. Boy he is short.
He came with Newman to the race after making Color of Money. Paul was there for the Indy raced and the Trans Am race every year. He was usually very private but one year I did get to meet him and his wife. He was very cordial. He was really fun to watch race. I was very smooth.
Mid Ohio is my home track and to be honest my favorite. things are very open. Two different years I ended up hanging with IMSA teams and even was permitted in the haulers.
The Trans AM race is really fun as I know some of the crew members on several teams. They will invite you in and at times you may get asked to help on a smaller team. I ran parts for a couple in the past. Even got half the front from Greg Picketts Jag when it burned a couple years ago.
If you have a chance it is the place to go for a race.
How often do they still race there? I would like to go it’s not that far of a drive to Ohio from where I live.
Did you not see the Cadillac drivers hammering the one in the tunnel under the track on the way to drive the Blackwing cars?
They had them there and got them on national TV.
Jimmy liked custom rides
Nice to know that Jim never sold out to a foreign name plate.
I saw James Garner once at Indy in the early 1980’s, on a Friday afternoon session before the first weekend of 500 Qualifications. He was watching the Champ Cars practice, by himself, in what was then still grass on the inside of Turn 1. From a distance he seemed to be very polite, quiet, courteous and unassuming. THAT made an excellent impression on me, even more so than seeing the movie Grand Prix when Dad took me and my younger brothers to see it as it first came out in theaters in 1966. Grand Prix still remains one of my few favorite movies.
