General Motors is gearing up to release the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado, introducing a fresh third generation for the pickup nameplate. However, the release of the 2023 Chevy Colorado will follow the end of production for the 2022 Chevy Colorado. Now, GM Authority has learned when the 2022 Chevy Colorado will officially end production.
According to GM Authority sources familiar with the matter, production of the 2022 Chevy Colorado will end on October 14th, 2022. General Motors will stop taking orders for the 2022 Chevy Colorado in July.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado is the eighth model year of the second-generation mid-sized pickup truck, with production taking place at the GM Wentzville Plant in Missouri. Engine options include the naturally aspirated 2.5L I4 LCV gasoline engine, rated at 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ gasoline engine, rated at 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Under the body panels is the GMT 31XX platform.
By comparison, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is a brand-new third generation for the pickup. GM Authority has already provided extensive coverage of the up-and-coming 2023 Colorado, including a series of spy photos showing a convoy of pickup prototypes and a look at the new truck’s interior.
Updates for the 2023 model year will include a completely redesign exterior, while the power spec will be limited to the turbocharged 2.7 I4 L3B gasoline engine. The 2.5L LCV, 3.6L LGZ, and 2.8L LWN will not return for the 2023 model year. The GM 10-speed automatic transmission will provide the cog swaps.
Inside, the 2023 Chevy Colorado will feature a new layout and new technology, including a new center stack display that appears to be similar to the 13.4-inch screen offered by the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.

It’s about time.
Well I hope this article is true and that they’re going to use the 10-speed otherwise this will be just another knackered model. Also the 2.8 Duramax has been out of production for a Time they actually shut down the plant that makes that motor overseas. If you don’t believe me try finding a new one on the lot you won’t be able to.
I was hoping to have my 23 by October, oh well
Hell, I am hoping to have the ’22 by then – ordered on 15 November.
Based off of dealer inventory levels I thought it already ended…
Yeah I am with Kevin, I was hoping for an august time frame. Still debating full size or mid but I would like to see my options in person and would like to get my order in ASAP
“….However, the release of the 2023 Chevy Colorado will follow the end of production for the 2022 Chevy Colorado.”
I not a marketing guru but I think it would be a great idea for gm to ship new models for show. These models would just be for consumers to inspect and test drive, these models wouldn’t be sold. Mid range models, so at least consumers could see the model in person. I have 3 Chevrolet dealers within 50 miles with no new trucks. If one comes in it’s sold so u have to order but who wants to do that when u haven’t had a chance to inspect. Put the new Silverado out along with the Colorado.
In normal times. I would have thought you would see the new models at the Detroit new car show in January and so on
I expect with the shut downs they have so many orders and so many parts in the system they may have had to extend the time to use up what they had.
The last year created many issues in many areas.
I know in the forums people have been waiting a long time on orders.
Looks like February 2023 before we see the new Colorado at dealerships.
That was my thought also. I don’t want to get my new truck in one of the worst months of the year in Michigan for road salt usage, so I’ll probably end up ordering in the spring. Especially when I plan on keeping the truck for the next 7+ years.
Unless you want a turbo 2.7L I4…sales will be dismal, bringing and end to the twins line.
And you think the high revving 3.6 is better with the knackered 8 speed? The 2.7 delivers tons more low end torque which is what you want for truck applications. It will also up HP considerably. The 2.7T is a proven motor. Even used in their full size. Look at the F-150. The most sold model in the US for decades. And it primarily uses two motors using induction. Yes there are those that will only buy NA engines but that crowd is not enough to shut down Colorado sales. Not even remotely so. The question one might ask is if they choose the 10 or 8 speed. If they again go with the 8 speed, I would not get near one. The article says it will use the 10 but I’m pretty skeptical until I hear it officially from GM.
It about time!
I guess my next midsize truck will be something other than, since there will be no V6.
I will not buy a 4 cylinder truck.
Everything I had heard kind of led me too to thinking Summer in dealers lots . I am getting a bit impatient and I’ve been waiting a while for one of the three new models. , Colorado , Ranger or Tacoma . Colorado and refreshed Ranger release are going to be pretty close to each other in 2023 I guess .
If they go with the 8 speed it’ll be a huge mistake. Worst transmission on the planet right now. 10 speed and I’ll consider going back to Chevy. Needs to have the best interior in its class also.
When I tried to order a red 2022 back in October, they told me “red was built out for the year”. For 2022. Really. And several options have already been discontinued. I am hoping the new ones come out mid year, since they have evidently run out of some components already for 2022s. If the interior updates are as good as the speculation articles are saying, the new trucks will be sold before they hit the lots, more so than now. All seems to hinge on chip supply. I’ll take a chance on the 4 cylinder since its over 300hp. Got 212,000 on my 09 Canyon, pretty good little truck but it’s getting tired. Need that 2023 to come on!
When will the ‘23s be available? I have to get a new company truck in January and was hoping for the next gen.
Gm needs to start delivery of the 2022 Colorado. I have been waiting over 65 days the truck has gone from Missouri to Michigan for quality inspection. It sat in Missouri for almost a month. I have an advisor an she has no answers why the truck is in Michigan and not been delivered to the dealership
That is just crazy. Mine was built and completed the week of 4/25 and has been sitting in Missouri for four weeks now. No idea why, GM says ‘dealer has all information’ dealer says ‘ GM ain’t telling us anything’. Dealer has one info screen from GM saying the truck will be delivered 5/21 – well that came and went with no truck. Screen still showing the 5/21 delivery. No one is providing any information. Terrible customer service on both ends. I get more and better information from my pizza delivery guy!
Don, have you taken delivery yet? Ordered mine 12/5/21, was built and invoice eta was 5/31. Still waiting.
I just don’t get it I just talked to a ford dealership in hollidaysburg pa and the salesman waited a deposit for a ford ranger to be moved from their dealership in bellfontee pa to hollidaysburg.
