Here Are The 2022 Chevy Tahoe Towing Capacities

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe is the second model year for the latest fifth-generation nameplate, arriving with just a few small changes and updates over the all-new 2021 model year. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the 2022 Chevy Tahoe with regard to the SUV’s towing capacities.

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe is available with three engine options, namely the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. All three engines connect to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission. Both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are offered. Additional towing capacity is available when equipped with optional Max Trailering Package (RPO code NHT).

With that covered, let’s take a look at the 2022 Chevy Tahoe towing capacities:

As we can see from this table, the maximum trailer weight offered for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is 8,400 pounds when equipped with the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rear-wheel drive, and the NHT Max Trailering Package. The lowest trailer weight rating is for 2022 Chevy Tahoe models equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and four-wheel drive without the NHT Max Trailering Package, rated at 7,600 pounds.

To note, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine is rated at 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, while the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe rides on the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

  1. One option I’d sure want is a third axle on a trailer that long.

    1. Looks like a fake picture that trailer is bet 35’ 8000 lbs .to much for a Tahoe ,the suburban has longer wheelbase but heavy body that’s why the towing is less .gm needs a hd Tahoe and suburban with a hd solid rear axle with 3.54 gears I would never tow any thing the manufacturer claims ,id be comfortable at 6500 Pounds Tahoe 6000 in the suburban ,one thing one must look at the length of the trailer and the hitch wt. 35 ‘ trailer need to go to 3/4 ton

  2. Can someone explain why the max tow rating is lower on the higher output 6.2 L engine than the lower output 5.3 L engine?

    1. It’s a higher trim with more opts that add wt ? Than add full tank of fuel , 6 people , cargo in the wagon and the tow rate goes down disclaimer “your towing may very or be less than the max tow rate “ max tow package needs a 3.54 axle or better not sure of the independent rear axle can handle the hitch wt

      1. Yes, those factors can affect the maximum towing rating, but the table must make certain assumptions about them that would apply to any of the three engine packages. Maybe the 6.2 L is heavier than the 5.3?

        1. Yes the 6.2 is roughly 100 pounds heavier than the 5.3.

  3. do you need the Tahoe NHT to tow a 4500 lbs travel trailer? what hitch does the standard 2 wd Tahoe come with and does it have the brakes and light plug -in option?

    1. It’s up to you. You don’t technically need it but some people like the upgraded rear suspension and the better tranny cooling the NHT comes with.

  4. So the Tahoe/Yukon NHT package doesn’t come with the 3.42 axle?
