GMC Terrain Among Fastest-Selling Vehicles In January 2022

The GMC Terrain was among the top 20 fastest-selling vehicles in January 2022, according to a recent study.

The crossover spent an average of 18.7 days on dealer lots before finding a buyer in January, making it the 16th fastest-selling vehicle for the month. The fastest-selling vehicle overall was the Kia Telluride, which spent an average of 12.8 days on the lot before being sold. The Toyota Corolla was second (15.5 days) followed by the Toyota Sienna (16.5 days), Acura MDX (16.7 days) and Toyota Ford Maverick (16.8 days). According to the study conducted by iSeeCars, the GMC Terrain had an average transaction price of $34,513 last month, below the industry average transaction price of $42,104.

Part of the strong demand for the GMC Terrain is down to the fact that production of the nameplate was put on pause last year due to the semiconductor chip shortage, which reduced the number of avaialble units on dealer lots. The Terrain is built at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

The GMC Terrain was one of two General Motors vehicles that were ranked in the top 20 fastest-selling nameplates in January 2022. The other was the C8 Corvette Stingray, which spent just 17.4 days on lots on average before being sold. The C8 Corvette Stingray also had the highest average transaction price of the fastest-selling vehicles at $98,597. The next most expensive vehicle in the top 20 was the Lexus GX460, which sold for an average of $61,986.

The 2022 GMC Terrain saw the introduction of a model refresh for the nameplate, otherwise known as an update or mid-cycle enhancement (MCE). The Terrain was originally slated for an update with the 2021 model year, but due to complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the refresh was delayed to the 2022 model year. Changes include revised exterior styling with new headlamps and taillights and a mildly overhauled cabin. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, rated at 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. The four-cylinder is paired with a GM nine-speed automatic transmission, while the GM D2 platform underpins the package.

  1. But how many were actually available. The terrain is always near the bottom of its segment in sales. If GM only made a few hundred then i could see selling them really quick.

  2. And how many were on the lot 1or 2 ???????

  3. Agree with JWL and Bill…
People still want/need their cars and the car lots are relatively empty. If there is any inventory, its the model/color nobody wants. IMHO.

  4. If this so true because no inventory across dealerships and only reason why these vehicles are pre order units that customer order in 2021 gm like most manufacturers are playing the catch up game at this point sales people have become order takers at this point and the days of 200 car inventory are over for the next little while until there is some kind of normalcy in the manufacturing Of new vehicles this is what my local dealer tells me

  5. Dealer lots are empty! Last September, looking to buy a GMC Canyon Denali in Central Florida. The one or two I found searching on line all had Black interiors, (nay nay). Everything else was was “IN TRANSIT”. So how do these numbers come about? Does GM start counting the days it leaves the factory floor or delivery to the dealer? It seems to me when it leaves the factory where it can take weeks before it arrives at the dealer.

  7. Totally agree I want to purchase a new terrain denali but the 1.5 making me hesitant to buy loved the 2.0 l engine. The LSY 2.0 l engine was supposed to be the engine in the terrain but gm stayed with the 1.5 really don’t know why I would be happy when the LSY engine in the terrain buying a denali trim with out 2.0 just not exciting enough !

  8. It is disappointing that GM pulled the 2.0l from the terrain and Equinox. I had a 2019 Equinox Premier AWD with a 1.5l and had to replace it as the 2year lease was up ( this was a company vehicle and had 180, 000k ). . I decided to get a Terrain but had no choice but to get the 1.5l. Mine was an SLE AWD , with sun roof and all of the safety equipment as package .
While many critics/ journalists do not have much good to say about the Terrain, in my experience the Terrain is very underrated .
It has a better interior than the ‘Nox, materials , layout , the push button shift is a real bonus and you adjust very quickly, (this frees up space and is a whole lot more user friendly, the seats are heated on the back as well as the cushion , versus just the cushion in many others , 9 speed auto versus 6sp , etc., etc . The terrain is a very compelling choice as a daily driver. I never felt the 1.5 l was compromised in the Terrain , and I believe the 9speed with the 1.5l makes it a competent performer.
My wife drives a new generation Forrester Sport , and i also have just purchased a left over 2020 Equinox Midnight with the 2 l and 9spd . I did this when gm removed the 2.0l as an option in 21. My plan was to get a Terrain AT4 with the 2.0l when i retired last fall, so picked up the ‘Nox with the 2.0L instead. If i had to do over , i would have waited for the 22 Terrain AT4 and took the 1.5l. Its not that my 2.0L ‘Nox is a bad vehicle , its just that i prefer the terrain and in most of my daily driving i do not use the added power of the 2.0l
The 2.0l in the ‘Nox is very enjoyable , but after spending time in the Terrain i appreciate its higher level of refinement and style versus the ‘Nox.

  9. Hope they build better engines and fix their stupid PCV flaw. Mine cost me 7k for new engine at 99k. G. M. C won’t cover it.
