GM Resolves Refreshed Chevy Silverado Heated Seat Unavailability

Last week, GM Authority reported that the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 would have reduced availability of certain features. Now, GM Authority has learned that some of those features are no longer constrained.

According to GM Authority sources, General Motors has resolved the expected limited availability of heated front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.

This undoubtedly comes as great news for those prospective pickup truck buyers looking to purchase the refreshed Silverado 1500. That said, several other features for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 are expected to have limited availability.

These limited features include a heated steering wheel, Rear Park Assist, and Front And Rear Park Assist. Check out the table below for a more complete breakdown of feature availability for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500:

Refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 - Feature Availability
Model Heated Steering Wheel Rear Park Assist Front and Rear Park Assist
WT Some units affected
Custom
Custom Trail Boss
LT Some units affected Some units affected
RST Some units affected Some units affected
LT Trail Boss Some units affected Some units affected
ZR2 Some units affected Some units affected
LTZ Some units affected Some units affected
High Country Unaffected Some units affected

Note that only some units are affected by the limited availability of these features, as opposed to all units of a particular trim level.

The limited features are the result of the ongoing global microchip shortage. Previously, several of these features faced similar constraints across GM’s vehicle lineup.

Fortunately, the front and rear park assist features will be available for retrofit around by Q4 off 2022, while heated steering wheels will be available for retrofit around the early Q3 2022 timeframe.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with numerous engine options, including the turbo 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now rated at 430 pound-feet), the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.

Under the skin, the pickup rides on the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana, and starting in the spring of 2022, the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada.

  1. So weird people stress heated seats and steering wheels, guess they also wear shorts and flip flops in the snow.

    1. Trust me. Nebraska is colder than snot in the winter. Especially when you’re up at 4:30 AM hunting. It’s very nice to have.

      1. I can understand that I just never knew it was that big of a deal to so many people.

        1. The problem is that you get used to the features and feel like you can’t live without them. Yesterday when it was below zero with windchill in Iowa the heated seats and steering wheel were absolutely welcomed after being out working in fence posts. In the summer the ventilated seats to keep the swamp to a minimum and lower back heat for long drives come in very handy. Just wish you didn’t have to buy an LTZ or High Country to get those options.

          1. Let me ask you something, are you able to start getting the seats and the steering wheel warm with your key before you start it? I thought there was a way you could get the car warm before you actually got in it?

            1. If it’s below a certain temp (guessing 32 degrees F but don’t know for sure) it will automatically run the heated seats and steering wheel when you use the remote start feature.

              1. Now that’s nice. If I got the heated seats and steering wheel I would definitely want to be able to warm it up without having to start it. Do you have trouble starting your vehicle in the winter?

                1. @Tim, I would think the heated seats, steering wheel would require the truck to be started first. If not, the battery would be dead from running the heat coil in the seats/wheel.

                  1. For some reason I thought someone at one point had commercials for that feature. I wanna say you could somehow use the fob to start it getting warm without starting it but I can’t remember exactly you are probably right.

                  2. @Tim I have a 2020 LT TrailBoss and have Heated Seats n Sterring Wheel, I have the Automatic Start and my seats and steering wheel heat up and haven’t had a problem at all, your vehicle on runs for 10-15 minutes when using the Automatic Start

                    1. Craig I have a 2007 LTZ vorteMAX with remote start and heated seats. It’s not new technology. 206,000 miles and lime everything else has always worked flawlessly unlike my Honda/Acura products.

          3. @Travis You don’t have too you can Usually buy an LT model that’s a lot cheaper than a High Country and LTZ and get Heated Sterring Wheel and Seats

        2. Well when you have old arthritic hands like mine grabbing on to a steering wheel that feels like an icicle no my favorite thing. And I don’t like to drive wearing gloves.

    2. Every vehicle I have ever had has had heated seats.
My 2002 GMC Sierra has it
My 2006 Mercedes E320 CDI has it
Ditto for my 2006 E55 AMG and it has ventilated messaging seats too.
When I get a 2006-2008 Buick Lucerne later this year it will have heated seats.
If your car doesn’t have heated seats it’s trash to me.

  2. Still no configurator tool for an actual 2022 Silverado 1500. What’s the deal GM? 🤔

    1. it’s unbelievable at this point…i really hate to go to a ford or ram but it’s getting real close

    2. No configurator is frustrating. I went to Costco’s website and configured a refreshed 2022. It was the same MSRP the dealer quoted me. It’s not as fancy as GM’s site but it will get you there.

  3. In the 60s we had real cars that were changed every year with real styling and no garbage on the interior . No plastic pieces of crap that when a deer jumps out in front it does 20,000 dollars damage and tv screens that do nothing but cause distracted driving I’ll take the old days any time

  4. Must be a big deal with some people. Good thing they didn’t live back in the day. I bought a 1976 custom long bed pick up , I guess I was lucky to get a automatic transmission ,power steering and a heater. No radio!! Put my own AM/FM in it. Now its all about creature comforts !!!

  5. When it drops from plus 4c to minus 12c and rain to snow it sure is nice to push a button while i have another coffee and have a warm car to get into, now if my new trailblazer gets here soon, ?? it may not have the heated seats, but spring is just about here and it will be retrofit by next Dec. so i am good .

  6. It was -17F this morning when I went to work. Heated everything is great. I’ve also lived in heat (Dallas, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman) and can attest to “cooled everything is great” as well. If the options are available and I’m springing for a high trim truck then I want it all. (My first vehicle was a 1963 Galaxie, no options, three-on-the-tree, radio delete, no seatbelts, cloth seats, metal dash – so the “you’ve never known it rough” comments won’t fly here.) Also, if you don’t want the options then you don’t have to get them.

  7. Not a deal breaker for me, havent even used in my 21 Hoe.

  8. We buy these vehicles for those extras…heated/cooled seats and steering ….I’ll wait my 2014 still drives exceptionally smooth…no rush we’ll wait it out…test drove the 22 Tundra…it was really nice but not enough to jump…my 2014 is actually nicer ride I find…takes alot to impress me

    1. Well, looks like I won’t be buying Chevy Silverado’s anymore!! In fact, won’t be buying GM pickups at all!!

  9. If your order these ‘heated’ options and of course pay for them at order time .. will GM be able to add them after you take delivery of the new vehicle with no damage to for what needs to be done to add these options?

  12. I’m glad to see the heated and a/c seats are, for certain, going to be included in the initial build. My ordered truck is scheduled to be built on the week of 3/7/22, as of today (2/11/22). Since the article notes that it is “SOME” vehicles that are subject to options being unavailable I’m somewhat hopeful. I’m hoping, since my build date is within the first weeks of initial building, that the other noted options are not hampered by the chip shortage.

  13. In response to “what’s the big deal over heated seats” Well guys I’m a Silverado RST lady who I paid extra for these types of luxuries and I expect to get what I paid for and yes it is a big deal to me especially on cold snowy mornings when I’m heading for hour long commute to my job working as a nurse and my patients appreciate warm hands so if it’s not a big deal to you then don’t purchase the extras but for us that do appreciate it and pay extra then we have the right to complain when we aren’t getting what we paid for.

  14. what part Is GM leaving out of the trucks.Wonder if you could get one out of a wreck one that would allow the seats to work.
