GM saw a slight improvement in its new vehicle inventory in January 2022 as it resolved certain supply chain issues and ramped up its production output.
According to Cox Automotive, the Chevy, Cadillac and GMC brands had 41 days’ worth of inventory on their dealer lots throughout the United States in January. Buick, meanwhile, had slightly more inventory with 49 days’ supply.
These inventory numbers are up slightly from last month. In December 2021, the Cadillac had 34 days’ worth of inventory, while Chevy had 37 days’ and Buick had 37 days’ worth. GMC remained even month-to-month with 41 days’ supply in December,
These numbers suggest that GM has been able to improve its production output in recent months, enabling it to ship more vehicles to dealerships to help keep up with unusually high demand for new cars, trucks, crossovers and SUVs. The automaker was able to implement overtime shifts at certain production plants in December after a slight improvement in the chip supply and expects major chip-related parts shortages to dissipate before the end of the year, CFO Paul Jacobson said previously.
“We saw improved semiconductor availability in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter, which enabled us to increase our wholesale sequentially while substantially reducing our inventory of vehicles built without certain components, and we expect ongoing semiconductor availability improvements throughout 2022,” Jacobson said.
According to Cox Automotive, Kia and Honda had the lowest inventory levels last month at 21 and 23 days, respectively. Fiat and Alfa Romeo, meanwhile, had the highest inventory levels at 90 and 205 days.

If they have 41 days worth of inventory, then shouldn’t dealer lots be full of cars? That doesn’t match with what I’m seeing and hearing.
Maybe when they have 80 days they will stop the MSRP + thousands.
It first started as a destination “fee” to cover freight, then we had to prep it so we have added a prep ‘fee”, then the bill of sale involved an employee using paper and ink so we have now added a D.O.C (daily operating cost) fee, due to the 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 shortages we now have a Market Fee. The most amazing sight one can see is the customer agreeing with the “fee’s” and signing the bill of sale. This will continually fester until the public refuses to accept it….demand the “fees” be backed out of the selling price or walk.
I will never understand consumers. I loose the urge to shop when prices are inflated due to a chip shortage and incentives are pitifully weak.

Fortunately the party is coming to an end with rising interest rates. Buying that $100,000 truck is about to become a lot more painful.
What was the industry average days of supply before supply chain disruption?
That is not what I am seeing…Three GM Dealers near me (2 Chevy and 1 Buick/Caddy/GMC) that normally have 200-300 new cars in stock each, maybe have 15 new cars between all three of them. One Chevy Dealer that also owns a Toyota dealer next door had 4 Silverado’s and 1, yes, just 1, new Toyota in stock. It was comical to see that one Avalon sitting in the middle of a huge empty parking lot. I went to my local Chrysler Dealer and they had over 60 new 2021/2022 Chrysler/Ram/Dodge/Jeep vehicles in stock. The Ford Dealer down the road from them had about 6 new cars in stock. I don’t see the chip shortage starting to relive itself just yet.
Why do we still call them Chrysler dealerships? Chrysler has two, three if you count minivan variant Voyager, models?
They are Mopar or Pentastar dealers. Maybe Stellantis. Definitely not Chrysler!
Depends on what area of the nation you live in, yesterday I drove past a Ford dealership and was almost shocked to see new Escapes and B/S on the lot, not long ago you saw nothing but F-Series.
Also most FCA dealers in the area kept a handful of 300/Charger/Challenger on the lot outside of Ram/Jeep
I don’t understand how it is improving I ordered a Chevy 2500 from flint truck and bus March 11 last year it has been setting some place since Aug last year my dealer has been trying to get it .for some reason he has no luck I have a vin # number you think they would get these to the customers who are waiting

My local dealer has 10-12 on the lot and 30-40 in transit. Most of them are higher trim levels with nearly every available LPO, wheels, step rails, floor liners, bed protection package jacking up the prices even higher.
Southern California no XT5 to be found at dealer ship all say in transit been waiting two long
The automakers must, with Washington’s aid, build a domestic semiconductor source. Imagine if major war occurred like a seizing of Taiwan?
The US Big Three (yes, Stellantis still counts) should each own one third of a spun off conductor business. It could be half funded by with Military provided it covered Homland Security required chips.
