Florida Man In C8 Corvette Rear-Ends GMC Acadia

A C8 Corvette Stingray bit the dust this week after its driver rear-ended a camouflaged GMC Acadia with tinted taillights at a considerable rate of speed.

We don’t have any official information on this fender bender crash from local police, so we’ll have to rely on the GMC Acadia owner’s account of the events. According to a post they shared on Facebook, they were travelling in one of the express lanes on Florida State Route 112 in Miami when they were rear-ended by an aggressive driver in a C8 Corvette Stingray Coupe.

Luckily for the GMC Acadia owner (and very unlucky for the C8 Corvette driver), the crossover was equipped with a trailer hitch and a hitch ball at the time of the crash, which was protruding out from the rear of the vehicle by a few inches. The metal hitch ball reduced the amount of damage incurred by the GMC Acadia, but appears to have contributed to the major front-end damage on the Vette. It’s possible this Corvette will be a write-off, as repairs like this can be extremely costly, or sometimes even impossible if the frame was bent or damaged.

While this crash appears to have been the fault of the C8 Corvette Stingray driver, the GMC Acadia driver isn’t entirely guilt-free, either. Their vehicle appears to be equipped with tinted taillights, which are illegal in Florida, according to a news report published by a Florida Fox affiliate back in 2019 that cited a statement from local police. Florida’s motor vehicle code also indicates vehicles being driven on public roads “shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 1,000 feet to the rear.” This GMC Acadia appears to be registered in New York, it’s worth pointing out, although we could not find any information on the legality of tinted taillights in that state.

According to the original Facebook post, the driver of the C8 Corvette somehow managed to drive away after the crash, while the GMC Acadia owner did not contact their insurer as their vehicle was not damaged. We’ll have to assume that occupants of both vehicles were also unhurt in the crash, seeing as emergency services were not called.

    1. It is a Chevrolet Corvette not a Ferrari (or BMW)…

The headline should have clued you in to that fact.

  3. 99 times out of 100. If you rear end another vehicle,.. YOU’RE at fault!

Driver of C8 Corvette was probably over joyed after waiting over a year to receive his new C8 and forgot how to drive with other traffic on the road.

    1. You must be smart enough to use cruise control, adaptive or otherwise.
An awful lot of idiots out there, and they’re driving all makes and models.
Fools will still be fools in whatever they drive. I try to just get the hell out of their way nowadays.
Impossible to run in the outside lane at 10 mph over the posted speed limit any more.
More cops and more enforcement desperately needed.

    1. Fixed that for you… “C8 Driver: Great,… another 82 more monthly payments and it’s all mine! 😠”

      1. You must be assuming the C8 driver has bad credit and little cash so they have to take the extended 84 month payment plan! LOL 😂

  6. Possibly avoidable with Adaptive Cruise Control. If the Cadillac XLR could have it fifteen years ago… you’d think the C8 could have it as an option.

  7. It doesn’t look like the airbags in Corvette deployed, therefore the “considerable rate of speed” of the collision was less than 16 mph.

  8. I notice that the GMC has a camo paint scheme. Maybe the C8 just didn’t see it. 😜

  10. Oops….

It goes to show you that, just because you have the money to buy a car doesn’t mean that you know how to drive it.

  11. Since when does a newer corvette have a frame as you stated in the article?
