Chevy Silverado EV Super Bowl Ad Brings Back The Sopranos: Video

General Motors had one of the most well-received advertisements during television coverage for Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, with the American automaker stealing the show with its Sopranos-themed ad for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.

The 60-second spot for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who plays Meadow Soprano, the daughter of mobster Tony Soprano, in the acclaimed HBO series. The ad recreates the opening sequence for the show, which originally showed Soprano (James Gandolfini) driving from Manhattan to his home in New Jersey. Instead of Soprano in his Chevy Suburban, though, this current-day recreation shows Sigler driving a 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. Nevertheless, much of the scenery remains the same as Sigler drives the same route as Gandolfini on the NJ Turnpike.

Sigler is shown sucking on a lollipop throughout the 60-second ad, which serves in place of Soprano’s iconic cigar. When she arrives at her destination out front of Bahr’s Landing in New Jersey, she’s seen plugging in the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV before giving a hug to her brother, AJ Soprano (Robert Iler). The ad remains faithful to The Sopranos’ opening sequence, partly because it was directed with input from the show’s creator, David Chase, along with opening sequence director Phil Abraham.

This ad is a great way to tug at the heartstrings of fans of The Sopranos whilst also introducing them to one of GM’s most exciting upcoming products. It also effectively communicates the ushering in of a new era for the Chevy brand, showing Tony Sopranos’ kids continuing his legacy whilst also sticking with the Chevy brand. The ad was created by GM’s global agency of record, Commonwealth/McCann.

  2. This commercial positively lit up New Jersey on social media. I was happily shocked watching. And the ending at Bahr’s seafood restaurant (which was in the prequel and the original series) is a restaurant I’m familiar with, so to see it on national television like that again was a thrill. That restaurant is in Highlands, NJ, just across the bridge from Sandy Hook – a National Gateway Recreation Area. Good, good commercial. Best of the night.

You can’t take anything that person comments on as factual, best to just ignore comments, hopefully that person will realize what a fool they are and stop with the negativity.

  8. I never saw the Sopranos show and so I was unaware of the ad’s connection with it. That said, I thought it was a great ad for Chevy and would have been for any brand. It had a bit of mystery to it which drew me in.

  9. People actually still watch sports? Why? Do people actually get entertained by grown men running around on grass throwing a piece of leather to each other making millions of dollars for it? Geez no wonder civilization has been going down hill.

      1. I have no reason to. I just don’t get turned on from watching grown men put their hands all over each other. I would suggest you get yourself a girlfriend or at the very least a blowup doll.

      1. Football is a boring sport where they stand around 5 times as long as they actually do anything. Rugby takes way more balls than football.

  11. I thought this was a great ad. My only question is this: would it have better if GM used this same commercial, but swapped it out with the Escalade EV? The Sopranos/Escalade connection is strong. I think it was great at getting attention to the Silverado EV (which GM needs), but would it have been better to unveil the Escalade EV?

  12. Sam, you forgot to comment on the scene when the EV Silverado is parking, and the rear wheels turn out to park closer.

  13. Great commercial but huge let down with the car. I get the push for EVs but that truck looked so out of place. Maybe should’ve put the new Silverado gas or an Escalade v or even the new Sierra.

Late to the party and the more they advertise vapor ware products the more obvious it becomes. I gotta bridge to sell yaaa

  19. I loved the ad and the Sopranos show.
As soon as I saw it I was thinking “wow”, the internet will blow up with “celebrating the racist mafia” comments…not as much of that as I expected, so I’m pleasantly surprised. The next thing I thought is “wow”, I’m getting old because I remember when they were kids…
Hell, showing Meadow sucking on a lollipop could have got certain groups all amped-up. My perception is that GM has become a ‘woke’ company now, so I applaud the bravery in putting such an ad out…again, pleasantly surprised.
It’s the only ad I care to remember from the SB.
Maybe organized crime is making a comeback…it might actually clean up a lot of the out-of-control crime in many major cities.
