In America, the majority of avid hunters either drive a pickup truck, or at the very least have a hunting buddy who owns one. It’s not hard to see why hunters prefer pickups, as the truck bed can be used to store guns, ammunition, supplies and, perhaps most importantly, the carcasses of the animals they’ve hunted. That said, a pickup truck isn’t a necessity for hunting game, as demonstrated by the rather ambitious Chevy Caprice owner seen in this viral video.
An Oklahoma resident filmed this rather funny video of a Chevy Caprice sedan driving down the highway with a deer carcass strapped to its trunk lid. While this is a somewhat unconventional way to transport a hunter-harvested deer carcass, it’s hard to see what’s really wrong with this strategy. Not everyone who hunts wants or needs a big pickup truck as their daily driver, and it’s clear the rather large, flat decklid of the Chevy Caprice sedan works perfectly fine for hauling, as long as the object is properly strapped down. That said, we’re more car experts than hunting experts here at GM Authority, so perhaps some of our knowledgeable readers can fill us in with any potential pitfalls of transporting a deer carcass this way.
While we’re not too sure what to make of this strategy for transporting hunted game, the person who filmed this video was certainly entertained by the unconventional approach.
“My family was driving to my nine-year-old son’s basketball game,” the original poster said of the clip. “We saw a car up ahead that had a deer carcass, strapped to the outside of the car, on top of the trunk! All I could think was, ‘Nobody will believe this is actually happening!’ I had to record it.”
The person went on to say that this Chevy Caprice owner was “definitely showcasing ‘Okie-ingenuity’ at its finest,” which we certainly can’t argue with. This may not be the most sophisticated way to transport a whole deer carcass, but it seems like it does the trick.

When I was growing up in the 70s this was how it was done. Lots of people would drive a “sports” car and still enjoyed hunting. So when you killed a deer it was strapped to the trunk and then you drive thru town to show your buddies.
I used to strap them to the roof of my firebird! That thing was a buck hauling machine!
Peculiar taste in cars AND food.
Against of Hunting… Really all that not necessary… We have farms with Cows … 4 million heads of them already. Please Stop ! Not a fan of Guns in any way… Humans are Strange… Really Criminals. Leave the Deers, Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, Cougars, Leopards, Tigers, Ants, Fishes, Whales, Turtles, Birds, cats, Crocodiles etc in Piece. 😞
Congrats Another HUNTER supporting conservation Enoy your Venison

How many cattle are in the world? The global cattle population amounted to about one billion head in 2020, up from approximately 989 million in 2019. The domestication of cattle began as early as 10,000 to 5,000 years ago. From ancient times up to the present, cattle are bred to provide meat and dairy.
Dentist Walter Palmer who killed Cecil the Lion ‘is spotted hunting sheep in Mongolia’ five years after he slaughtered the famous predator with a bow in Zimbabwe. The American dentist who sparked global outrage when he killed an endangered black-maned lion in 2015 has been sighted hunting again
As a game warden I hauled many of them this way on my patrol sedan. Mostly road kills removed from someone’s fromt yard.
Was going to say, the author Sam doesn’t seem to be from deer country since there’s a good chance this was roadkill, explaining why the driver was unprepared.
Sam are you trying to take away J Lo’s Pulitzer Prize award?
I’m not a fan of hunting myself, but there are too many deer anyways, at least In Wisconsin
Effective, but probably not good for the paint and finish. If you don’t much care about the car, why not?
YOU PUT SOMETHING UNDER THE CARCASS TO PROTECT THE FINISH,
True. It looks like Mr. Oklahoma didn’t.
THATS THE WAY IT WAS DONE , INCLUDING STRAPPING THE CARCASS TO THE FRONT FENDERS IF THE DEER HAD AN UNUSUALLY LARGE PAIR OF ANTLERS. WHEN I WAS A KID I REMEMBER MY UNCLE RETURNING HOME FROM A SUCCESSFUL CANADIAN MOOSE HUNT WITH THE MOOSE HEAD STRAPPED TO THE LUGGAGE RACK OF HIS ’57 VW BEETLE, THAT WAS QUITE A SIGHT.
Caps lock on?
O it’s not going to hurt the paint or car or finish is soft furry she’s going to be blood go wash the car it’ll be fine.
Very glad to see only one, uneducated person posted about “murdering deer” hopefully one day while driving one will jump in front of their car and do $3-15,000 worth of damage and then they’ll realize “harvesting Derr” is a necessity. Living in NE PA chances of a deer “hitting you” are about 20% (1 in 5 times you’re driving anywhere)
I hit a doe once in Kansas. I had a Nissan pickup, and I wish I’d been able to haul her into the bed. I wouldn’t have eaten her: I’d have given her to the homeless under the bridge, some of whom must have known how to dress a deer.
It all depends where/how you grew up that forms your opinion on the subject. It’s a BIG Country. Some see dinner and others see Bambi.
Would have been a tremendous bit of irony if the vehicle had been an Impala.
Thumbs up for the versatility of a Chevy Caprice Sedan; I live in a city in NE Ohio and deer regularly travel through my back yard. There are hardly any natural predators for the deer population in the Midwest any more. They do millions of dollars in auto accidents and crop damage even causing some deaths. I have counted a heard with as many as 18 in my in-laws back yard. The popularly of (just about all) Hunting is now looked down upon mainly because of their view on guns even though most deer are taken by bow. We need more harvesting to maintain the health of the present and growing deer population. Venison like Bison is also a very heathy protein.
I live 40 miles from NYC and have herds of deer all the time. Even 8 point bucks. They destroy shrubs like crazy. Never saw a deer around here until 20 years ago. They are like squirrels now.
All the extra deer is due to NYC and Long Island folks moving to the Pocono’s and population since the mid/late 80’s is 25 X what it was. I owned a restaurant in the town of Mount Pocono (1984-1993) 1890/Town & Country on Rte. 191 & Pocono Farms and Pocono Country place went from “nice new Homes” to the center of drug trafficking in PA
Now there’s a murder a week up there. BEFORE anyone gives me crap about this post, I’m originally from Richmond Hill (moved out 1973)
Headline should read “Chevy Caprice Sedan Spotted”
