Another Look At The Refreshed 2022 Silverado RST

The refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 made its big debut in September, with General Motors unveiling the updated pickup with a long list of changes over the preceding 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited. Now, we’re taking another look at the sport 2022 Silverado RST trim level.

The 2022 Silverado RST is once again offered as a mid-range trim level that’s equipped with a selection of features to give it some extra street performance flavor. This particular example is finished in Summit White, giving it a stark aesthetic against the black trim and tinted windows.

Up front, the 2022 Silverado RST features a body-color front bumper, which is paired with a body-color grille bar to create a cohesive, unified look for the revised fascia. A black Bow Tie badge with a polished surround is mounted high on the new front grille.

The lighting spec throws in new C-shaped LED signatures / Daytime Running Lamps, which include an amber tracer animation for the turn signal. There’s also a set fog lamps near the bottom of the front bumper.

Moving to the sides, we find the 2022 Silverado RST offers more body-color finishes for the door handles, which blend in nicely with the profile of the refreshed 2022 Silverado. High Gloss Black painted mirror covers offset the bright white paint. This 2022 Silverado RST is also running a set of 20-inch Painted aluminum wheels with machine face and Grazen Painted pockets (RPO code NZN), a new addition for 2022.

Finally, the rear end features LED taillights, while the 2022 Silverado RST’s rear bumper is also body-color to match the front end. The tailgate can be seen with embossed Chevrolet script.

As for the power spec, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with four engine options, starting with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which now produces a maximum of 430 pound-feet of torque. The 2022 Silverado can also be had with the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.

Under those bright white body panels, the 2022 Silverado rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana, the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada.

  1. It looks nice in white. The current GM trucks are the best looking trucks they have produced going on 30 years. I think the GM twins are the best looking trucks to date with Ram right behind them and then followed by Ford.

Which.. I don’t care if I get down voted.. I was surprised that the Silverado EV looked so much like a Bolt truck instead of a Silverado.. it’s not ugly but it just doesn’t have the same appeal to me as the current trucks..
Ford has a nice looking electric truck with it’s F-150 Lightning. May not be as capable as the Silverado EV but doesn’t lose the nice truck look.

I try not to be overly biased even though I favor more GM products over Ford and Chrysler. I love cars and I am optimistic about the electric truck… but when it comes to the way it looks it’s drastically different from the current model and I think that is going to be their problem to win over their current customers.

    1. I think Chevy missed the boat with an electric Avalanche instead of an electric Silvy. For nothing else other than commercial sales which Ford covered well with the lower trim Lightning.

I think the concern for GMs electric future is they miss the mark going too high in price and too niche with their EVs. Forsake their core customer who still needs the EV for the same reasons as an ICE and is not in the 75-100k price point

  3. To me the RST trim is the only one that doesn’t win with this new fascia.

  4. Am I right in thinking that if I want a different suspension/lift system than available on the Trail Boss, that I’m better off starting with an LT or RST, rather than buying the Trail Boss then changing out the suspension? Or is there still a reason to start with the Trail Boss?
