2024 GMC Yukon Refresh Spied For The Very First Time

General Motors unveiled the fifth-generation GMC Yukon for the 2021 model year, debuting a complete model overhaul that redesigned every aspect of the SUV nameplate. Now, General Motors is working on the 2024 GMC Yukon, which is set to usher in a model refresh, and GM Authority has the first photos capturing a 2024 GMC Yukon prototype testing in public.
This particular 2024 GMC Yukon prototype is the standard-length, regular wheelbase body style, as opposed to the extended-length GMC Yukon XL. The prototype is covered in heavy camouflage front and rear, indicating that the 2024 model refresh will introduce styling revisions to the front and rear fascias.
This particular model is also likely the SLE trim, as it is seen rolling on a set of 18-inch 6-spoke machined aluminum wheels with Dark Grey Metallic accents, which are equipped as standard on the SLE.
However, beyond the exterior styling, the big news for the refreshed 2024 GMC Yukon is that it may introduce new autonomous driving features, possibly the GM Ultra Cruise system. For those who may have missed it last year, GM Authority captured a GMC Yukon equipped with a range of sensors and other goodies testing around GM’s Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan, indicating that the SUV was part of GM’s development for the next-generation semi-autonomous driving system.
As an evolution of the current GM Super Cruise system, Ultra Cruise expands the hands-free driving to include 95 percent of driving scenarios, enabling a “door-to-door hands-free driving experience.”
For now, the current 2021 GMC Yukon does not offer Super Cruise, at least not yet. The 2024 GMC Yukon may introduce either Super Cruise or Ultra Cruise to the nameplate, and the prototype seen here includes openings in the camo for potential driving assist sensors.
It’s also worth noting that a refresh for the current fifth-generation GMC Yukon would mark a significant departure in strategy from the previous K2-based models, the latter of which did not receive a refresh during their lifecycle, having launched for the 2015 model year and produced through the 2020 model year.
As for the fifth-gen, GMC Yukon sales have been through the roof. Regular Yukon sales totaled 51,365 units in 2021, up 25.39 percent from the 40,965 units sold in 2020. Meanwhile, Yukon XL sales totaled 32,877 units last year, an increase of 46.28 percent compared to the 22,475 units sold in 2020. Total Yukon sales came to 84,242 units, up 32.79 percent compared to the 63,440 units sold in 2020.
