The big reveal for the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 included a long list of changes and updates for the Light Duty pickup, including the introduction of the new 2022 Silverado ZR2 off-roader trim level, an even more-capable rough-stuff specialist for the refreshed Silverado lineup. Notably, the 2022 Silverado ZR2 also offers new rocker guards as an optional upgrade.
The rocker guards for the 2022 Silverado ZR2 are tagged with RPO code NAA, and are a new addition for the 2022 model year. The NAA rocker guards are only available for the 2022 Silverado ZR2, and are offered as an LPO-level option, which means they are installed by the dealer, rather than at the factory when the vehicle is initially produced.
As we can see, the rocker guards are tucked up close to the body. As such, they cannot be used as side steps to get into and out of the truck.
The 2022 Silverado ZR2’s NAA rocker guards cannot be combined any of the ZR2’s available side steps, such as (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Six-inch rectangular Black tubular assist steps (RVQ)
- Four-inch Black round assist steps (RVS)
- Off-road assist steps (S6L)
- Off-Road High Clearance Steps (VXW)
Notably, GM Authority has captured examples of the 2022 Silverado ZR2 trucks out on public roads wearing the VXH six-inch rectangular chromed tubular assist steps, which are not available for the ZR2 trim level.
As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is offered just one powerplant, namely the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The V8 feeds the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, as well as front and rear e-lockers for extra grip. The one-pedal rock crawling feature allows for even greater control over challenging terrain.
Speaking of control, the 2022 Silverado ZR2 is also equipped with DSSV Multimatic spool valve dampers, which are similar to the suspenders found on the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and include unique spring tuning and enhanced suspension travel over the standard Silverado Trail Boss.
Under the body panels is the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana, and the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada.

These should have been standard. Rock rails were standard on the Colorado ZR2…
I’m not sure that I want them standard. I want to know if they are frame or body mounted. I also kinda like sliders that let you attach steps. That would be super useful to my wife.
More importantly I want to see one of these trucks in person so I can make a final decision on buying one.
I remember the days of tough trucks 1955-1977 Chevys..tough as BarbWire! Heavy Duty 1/2 toner’s 2Wheel and 4wheel fun stuff!! My 1973 Silverado still Rocks..!!!
Better buy them qik, before these to get axed from the list, like everything else is.
