The 2022-model-year refresh for the GMC Sierra 1500 introduces a wealth of changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Among these is the addition of new rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Rain-sensing windshield wipers can detect when rain is falling, automatically activating to keep the windshield clear and providing the driver with an unobstructed view of the road ahead. The feature is a nice addition, adding both safety and convenience.
For the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, Rain-sensing windshield wipers are tagged with RPO code CE1, and are fitted as standard on SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate trim levels. The feature is unavailable on Pro, SLE, and Elevation trim levels.
General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 in October, pulling the sheets on a revised exterior with a new look for the front end, as GM Authority detailed previously. The model refresh also introduces a completely overhauled interior space with new infotainment gear highlighted by a 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard on SLE and above, plus GM’s semi-autonomous Super Cruise system as standard on the new GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate trim level. The model refresh also introduces the new AT4X off-roading trim level.
As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 offers four powertrain options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which now produces 420 pound-feet of torque, a 20-percent increase. The refreshed Sierra is also available with the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, as well as the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides atop the GM T1 platform, while production is set to take place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

Their full-size SUVs have had automatic rain-sensing wipers as standard equipment on all trims since the previous K2 platform generation. Why did GM take that away on the 2019-2021 Silverado and Sierra?
The last year they offered this feature on the full size truck was 2008. The same year they discontinued the heated washer system from their lineup.
Any word when the online configurator goes live? Was supposed to be Jan 6 but it’s still dark.
Configuration with pricing went live on 1/6 only at the dealerships. From what I hear the GMC online configuration will be awhile longer but haven’t heard any dates.
You are incorrect on that. I work at a dealership, and we still do not have pricing on the new trucks. At least that’s the case here in Canada.
I’m not incorrect. This is in the US. I went to my dealer on 1/6 configured my truck on GM Order WorkBench, received the price and placed the order so I don’t know what you’re talking about.
As I said, in Canada the case being is that we don’t have pricing here.
So with that said, how much different was the price on the new ’22 compared to the 2021’s and 2022 limiteds?
I ordered a regular Denali Crew Cab, Short Box, Onyx Black with Jet Black Seats with all the standard items plus the following:
Duramax Diesel: $995
Denali Reserve Package: $4,130
Upgraded Rims: $2,995
Package Discount: -$500
Total MSRP Cost with Destination Freight Charge: $72,840. Building the exact same vehicle on the GMC site for a 2022 Limited was $70,700.
I really wanted Supercrusie but not for $8,000. I might as well get the Denali Ultimate at that point which I did not want. Dealer said their GM Rep informed them that I would be lucky to see it between late March to mid April since I reserved one when it first became available but no guarantees.
Equivalant truck here would be 78,000 I think. A denali ultimate (21/22) maxed out at 84+++ up here.
What comes in the Denali Reserve Package?
Nevermind, found it. Curious to see a pricing breakdown of all the packages (and hopefully be able to mess with an online configurator sometime soon)
I ordered as you did but it was before Christmas. ( I was tipped off by the dealership when to reserve and did so within a few minutes it was available back in October during a football game. The first commercial of the Denali with super cruise) I was notified by email that the order was accepted for production around Christmas. I avoided the Ultimate as it has extras I don’t want including super cruise. I also do not like the black out chrome
Nice truck! That’s almost exactly my order also
What dealer are you using for your order? None of the dealerships in Dallas seem to know pricing
New Jersey
GM junk
Hopefully the rain-sensing feature can be turned off. If your windshield is peppered with fresh bugs the last thing you want is the wipers turning on for a slight sprinkle. That said, I have never had rain-sensing wipers so I don’t know how sensitive they are.
I’m glad my truck does not have this. I had the automatic on a Yukon Denali and on multiple Mercedes and either you can turn it on or off and then only two selections including high or medium basically. The automatic always makes it activate way too often. I much rather the ability to choose from several presets.
Same with auto lane assist. I just had a Camry for a rental. It was the worst experience I’ve had driving In a while. By the time I retired it i called it the explitive-mobile.
In short what happened was I passed a wide load and the lane keep assist ripped the wheel out my hand while I was passing wide, and drove me back towards the truck. I yanked the wheel back just to continue the fight. I finally passed, just to continue driving like a mad drunkard as I searched for the button to disable it, and those few moments my eyes were off the road the lane assist ping-ponging me all the way. I finally turned off that sucker
No thanks to automatic aids.
Save the chip, I would never want it or use it.I use rain x, which does a great job with water beading right off the windshield. Seriously do people need this option
Welcome to 2005, my wife had an Envoy that had them and she liked them. Her 18’ XT5 has them. My 17 Denali diesel at twice the price-no way said the General! But I am old and set in my ways so I will stay loyal to them. Young people not so much.
why is this special? my 03 trailblazer has this lol.
And maybe we can get a panoramic roof in 2030. Every truck in this segment now has one save for the Chevy/GMC. Hey GM! My co-workers 2015 Ford F-150 XLT has a panoramic roof, yea the lower trim XLT. And I still can’t get one in a Denali. 😔
Good luck with cab and passenger area object intrusion causing severe injuries when you roll one of your stupid “panoramic roof” vehicles. Ever think of that genius ?
the tesla pano rooves seem to do just fine. I’m sure gm can match that
Years ago I was looking at a new Mini. It too had rain activated wipers. But then at 10s of thousands less so do I .
Lots and lots of GM cars had rain sense wipers in the 00’s. Never understood why they got rid of the feature.
The same reason they got rid of comfortable seats, underhood light, axle ratio choices and the list go’s on. Cheap always playing catch-up when they used to be a leader!
“Rain Sensing” windshield wipers are the biggest pains-in-the-ass the idiots ever came out with. Just one more example of taking the controls of the vehicle out of the hands of the owner and something else to break and need “fixing”. 10 drops of sprinkle on your otherwise dry windshield and those wipers turn on and smear bug guts all over your field of view to say nothing about dragging wipers across an almost completely dry windshield and scratching the heck out of the glass. NO THANK YOU…just like idiotic “stop/start” and continuing to ignore all the horrible problems with the 5.3 and eight speed trannies that GM is stonewalling ! Mary Barra failures..again !
I don’t understand what problem is trying to be solved with auto wipers. Its like replacing a volume knob with a button to control your car radio; a solution in search of a problem.
Absolutely agree . When I become so old and crusty that I can not turn on the wipers or see that it’s raining I’ll hand in my keys and drivers lic. There are many times when winter or buggy summer driving that you just don’t want them on. I know, how about an engine that doesn’t self destruct before the body does. Now that would be useful !
My 2005 Envoy has rain sensing wipers. Why wouldn’t GM have included them on high end vehicles ever since then? Sounds dumb to say that’s a new feature
I have rain sensing on my 2019 but the truck was from Canada one of a kind carbon edition when I first took it in for service at GM. Has every single option. Sucks in the snow though with the limited options for tires with the magma track suspension and the 22” stockers.
Love this makeover though!
Finally went to order the new 22 Denali Ultimate and the dealer said super cruise is not available yet. Very frustrating to see the advertising for it and reserving a spot only to be unable to even order
GM had rain sensing wipers as an option on the upper trims of the GMT900 trucks, and the K2xx trucks. This really isn’t anything “new”. For whatever reason, they removed the option for 2019, 20, and 21. They’re reintroducing it for 22 and making it standard on the middle to upper trims now, not just optional on the upper trims. So is it new? No, but it’s more available.
GM = Garbage
Wow my wife’s 2014 Durango has rain sensing wipers works great. Better late than never I guess
